  1. I like a lot of these records listed.....but some of them should have never hit northern soul decks.Nick Nack being one...in a cellar club with a load of mods yep.Anyway heres mine. Dolly Gilmore...Dont You Know....i know the other side got a spin once at the Mecca but whose idea was it to turn this one over. Its like Cleo Laine on an acid trip on the Love Boat with a sax solo from 7one of the muppets. Doug Banks I Just Kept on Dancing....whose idea was it to introduce cha cha cha to the scene..there was a swathe of these type of records.Probably would fit at a cha cha cha or popcorn night but a room full of riker likers?? The dreaded Tribute.....massive with the handbaggers...whose idea?
  2. Who else covered the Snake apart from Al...Oscars is the original i think.I have a version by Harvey Fuqua from the sixties.Kevin King Lear covered it in the sixties for Page One on in the UK which got a reissue on Route in the mid seventies which must have been to try and cash in on northern demand.I wonder of Kevins version got any plays.
  3. Nema was a b side....an out there psych track with loads of hammond a bit like I am An Angel off the lp.There were a few bands from that era who were dabbling in soul. The best were Harlem Jonns Reshuffle from Oldham..covering That Driving Beat,Everything Under The Sun,Looking For A Fox...im sure they did Open The Door on their lp as well
  4. Snake....overplayed record by boring deejays....if you have just come back then it probably sounds great.SOUlJIHAD...theres a year in front of me and the AF250 will be getting pulled out....i cant face another year of ska coverbands...modspaulwellers tribute bands...and join the dots northern from.bootlegs.Isle Of Wight was the last straw and a lot of us are thinking of goung to brighton aug bank holiday and taking over a pub...where are the mystical rally places you speak of ?
  5. Well Butch gets about....hes playing house in Cologne

I used to get tapes of his show sent down to me from an ex Twisted Wheel deejay.....here#s one of them i transferred to my youtube channel.Ive some old Emperor Rosko stuff from pirate radio as well on which Im going to get around to uploading......check out Tim Browns prices!!
  7. Brian Bennett Chase Side Shoot Up....big at the Torch apparently......you know it as the Golf theme...Jack Wardle from the Boro was selling them covered up.People are still listing records people like....Interplay...The Snake etc people like these records.
  8. Dolly Gilmore is bloody awful...........a lot of records on this thread are actually liked...the snake etc etc ..........how about The Statue Tommy Sands.....The Lurch-Ted Cassidy
  9. So someone has re activated the old Ootp bootleg label then..wonder if theres a sequential number on it.There was a big dancefloor reaction to it.Its funny how a record can suddenly be big all over the country.I was deejaying after Ginger at The Dome and he spun WWGT..Rca Demo Uk.Is it Ginger who reactivated or have a few jocks been pushing it.
  10. I played out Cant Help Loving You on Boxing day.....rammed dancefloor.A dj before me played a red Ootp boot of When We Get There...is the red Ootp a seventies boot or a recent boot.Heard Bob Sinclair twice at rwo different venues....massive with the handbaggers.
  11. On a yuletide tip Lisa Millers loneliest Christmas Tree...booted as well l.Was this one of Soussans attempts to press a record before it had a chance to be big...nobody can have liked this. The Carmels I Cant Shake This Feeling....got this in a soulpack in the eighties so im assuming it was played out somewhere.Ive heard a few abominations played out this year...Nick Nack Paddy Wack,Oh Ma Liddi and Dolly Gilmore Dont You Know.
  12. I looked through a load of old Echoes mags from.the eighties yesterday and there was a lot of events on including some that advertised oldies and newies in the same room....shock horror along with oldies only events soul nights etc.I even found a flyer for the all night club of Great Britain Redcar 1985 scooter rally do advertising Hear sounds like Elbie Parker,The Pockets,The Present etc etc..northern on scooter rallies now is a local dj with a boxfull of boots...I recently attended a soul night last week and heard Tommy Navarro played....the sound was terrible....looked at the record and it was a carver and the dj told me what do you expect its 40 years old! ..more like 40 days...what part of KTF do they not understand.Hopefully the youngsters will find their own way after it has shrinked again...The Wheel may even come round and they take it back to uptempo sixties soul music discovering all the music that is now ignored....
  13. Can anybody confirm re UK sixties reggae releases whether masters were used as I've had about 4 copies of Jackie Mittos Ram Jam and they all sound as though they are dubbed from a scratchy 45.I always thought Ace sourced from master tapes as as the sound on the Kent lps and Cds is second to none and minty copies if there is no access to tapes.Master tapes do end up in odd places.I was involved in recovering Cat Stevens masters ......but that's another story.
  14. Is there any similar styled niters similar to Stoke that play Mirwood style northern soul? Not funky not across the board not rnb not ska ?? ie traditional danceable uptempo northern with new discovered or underplayed similar styled stuff mixed in.

I think she's not bad.....but not keen on the Hayze Fantayzee look.
  18. I went and had a few drinks with Wayne Kirven a few weeks ago.He was involved in the Town article with Marc Feld...They used the term modernist. He was importing black music from the USA in 63 and woyldnt touch UK copies of records. He said it was all over for him in August 64 and moved to France. He said there were no self proclaimed mod clubs you just went were there was good music. He went to the Scene but abandoned it after too many Police raids and young pill heads crashed out on mats.Wayne was one of the original 61 62 mods from Stamford Hill. There's a good book called Days In The Life which features original quotes from all of the main players..its by Jonathan Green.Btw Mickey Tenner appears in The Sorcerers film dancing at Blaises....that is 67 tho
  19. Sandi Sheldon and The Orlons at The Rocket....Sandi was a true lady and brought Rose Mcoy with her.Chris lalor was chaeuffeur.

I was speaking to Brian Rae who told me he had done The Flamingo The Wheel Mecca Wigan and Stafford....I'm sure he said he never did The Torch.
  22. I've got the Record Mirror one....give me day or 2 and I will post it....
  23. They need to get D the Drug in as a pharmaceutical advisor. The other film got slated for its Carry On Aspects but there's a clip where some regional tv presenter does a feature and the lads headbut someone...that is pure carry on.There does seem to be a lot more effort and time gone into this one though and a few of the kids are into the music...seen them at Stoke but for some it is probably just an acting part.Would like to see a few of the kids doing the mecca shuffle in pegs rather than just the acrobatic baggy cliches.Who is playing Simon soussan and will the infamous Dewhirst beer glass escapade be recreated.
  24. Hav we had this one yet....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNsRvQwlXto
