I May Have Unearthed Another Rarity By The Equals
Wiggyflat replied to Suinoz's topic in Look At Your Box
I'm sure its by a band called Mozaik or something like that...I'm sure there's a Spencer Davis cover on the other side..good versions though....just got a record by De Hems..which has big Equals involvement.. good funky b side as well. -
I know...that's why I need to get one quick!!
-
Missed out on this....anyone got a copy to part with ...in vg plus to ex cons.Pm me Thanks
-
Finally got around to digging this one out..1983..great pic with a wedged up soulie.. iconic 80s and still looks cool...
-
Teeside racecourse boot sale 1988 or thereabouts....oh that's a major Lance UK dwmo of Ain't No Soul...I've heard of this other group..The Game It's Shocking What they call Me...UK demo.I'll have a punt on both...that'll be a pound.I left the Beatles demos.Funny rhing is my mate had gone through them...nothing there Kev.Still got both.Best ever haul was in San Francisco... A few mint copies of Rhonda Davis..A copy of Melvin Elling..A copy of Benny Troy plus a holdall of other pieces all at 2 dollars 99 cents. He let me off with the tax.Got rid of the Melvin which paid my flight.

In the clip I posted which was from Tim.Browns book he describes it as a Washington sound...don't think its got anything to do with modern Go go.

Pre-Releases At Wigan - Tailor Made Exposure ?
Wiggyflat replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
John Vincent has confirmed that he did get all of Levines records on Tomorrow on pre release so they were played before general release. He has said there is a story behind it though and certain.people were not happy. -
Pre-Releases At Wigan - Tailor Made Exposure ?
Wiggyflat replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
What I meant was would they get played as pre release as Tommy Hunt was and then get dropped from the playlist when they were on general release.I get my info from Russ and John Vincent... -
Pre-Releases At Wigan - Tailor Made Exposure ?
Wiggyflat replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
There must have been business going on with Russ or Mike Walker and Barry Kingston of Spark records..Tommy Hunt live at Wigan lp..we will play Tommys Losing side prior to general release ie plugging it ensuring healthy sales.I'm not sure Levines tailor mades would have been allowed at Wigan.Russ also had links with Simon S ensuring his instrumentals got plugged prior to sales. The other obvious one is the deal he had with Pye which may explain some of the more poppier stuff.Russ did tell me that the Prt Wigan lp was a bootleg and not licensed. -
I could see why it was played...very fast and in the same tempo as So is The Sun...a million miles away from the stop start jerky James Brown style funk.I'm into Brazillian Batucadas and Latin stuff and can see the connections. The 80s BGP released some comps called Focus On Fusion..this was more the jazzier end..I want to know about the funkier end of it
-
-
I'm sure I read that the original go go sound was the Sugar Pie and East Coast Connection sound...I know about the eighties Go Go sound and Snowboys comp..I'm talking about the seventies. It's like a mixture of funk and brazillian batucada. The nearest we got was Gonzales.
-
I heard that the type of music known as Go Go was briefly popular on the northern scene.. East Coast Connection-Summer In The Parks sugar Billy- Sugar Pie Anybody point me in the direction of any more.It seems typified by a fast guitar sound with the odd whistle and street rap.
-
Did the Soul Response version of Loving On The Losing side ever get played??
-
Mark what was the Something of Value? I'm assuming Contenders is You Gotta Do.Thers not that many covered up here either.Maybe Something was the Del Royals or Barclays version?? I wonder what shelf life Tommy Hunt had as I'm sure it would have been a play prior to the Spark release and then dropped. You never hear any of these out...Blanche Carter not in vogue ..Tommy too well known and it has been hammered over the years..Case of Love...never heard the inst out.
-
Got dupes of these issues...I'm after 54 to 66,68 69 and 70,74 to 105,107 to 122 124 to 131. Trade 179 Feb 76 201 July 76 241 Dec 77 249 April 78 203 July 76 205 Aug 76

Right July 76...and Tommy Hunt is a play.I'm assuming this would have been played prior to release Charades and Case Of Love insts from the Soussan connection. Is Loves The Answer Kelly Garrett? what is Double Crossing? Gwen Owens as a newie as well...was this a Richard spin? I'm.assuming George Byrd is I'm available.Admirations...Heaven Is In Your arms?

Mel Torme - Comin Home Baby, Etc..earliest Records Played?
Wiggyflat replied to Scotters's topic in All About the SOUL
Comin Home Baby and the bside Right Now were massive on the eighties mod scene Comin Home baby has been covered by loads of people and must have been a big hit at the time I've just for a great version by El Chicano on Kapp.. as for being played on the northern scene....well... -

Ha ha Eric Mercury would be my second....not bothered about Tommy Ridgeley.I tried to contact Eric Mercury about some unreleased tapes I found. There was one solitary Eric Mercury record with them on a red and white canadian label with a staple on it.
