  1. These pics have been available for years.I used one or two of them for flyers in 2002.
  2. Ive uploaded the vid on YouTube...just type in bankhall miners.
  3. Just finished reading this.....based in the Blackpool area in the early seventies .A must have if youre into soul and scooters.Loads of Mecca stories and a place called The Peacock. Can be bought from Amazon at 14.99.Written by Phil Mumby.
  4. NME March 29 th 1969
  5. I've the original promo ad in a UK music magazine...if someone can give me the week of release I will post it up.
  6. To tell you the truth its a sorry state of affairs if you are going to northern soul events and hearing basic Tamla..Shouldn't LSH,Suspicion,DILY,Your Love be taking a well earned rest. They have been totally hammered for years all over the UK.It's only the born again KTF KOKO add two sprinkles of Salt And Pepper and a Stardust collection deejays who play this stuff. As for Be Young Be Foolish Be Happy,Tell Me Its just A Rumour,Baby I Need Your Loving ,Johnny Johnson,Chairmen of the Board tc etc..this is primary school entry level stuff before discovering ric Tic and Mirwood.
  7. Haven't the djs who have Suspicion,LSH,Your Love,Frank Wilson etc got them on repros or boots already?.They haven't got the cash or wheeled and dealed to get a good original collection over the years so are they going to fork out the money for this.Barbara Macnair wouldn't get plays and most obvious Tamla stuff will be in their boxes anyway. If I'm wrong I can see this advert in a few years....Northern Soul Night dj selling up.Loads of great records on Casino Classics,Destiny,Spark etc for sale.Tamla box set for sale all mint apart from Suspicion vg only and Frank Wilson is missing.Bargain at 300 quid.
  8. I was offered a Berts Apple Crumble for 100 and a Cajun Heart mint UK demo for 100 and a Ronnie Hilton Laughing Gnome by a dealer...bought the Laughing Gnome and Berts and meant to get the Cajun a month later...I misplaced my diary with the dealers number and I'm still looking for it.This was 5 years ago.
  9. I've an unreleased acetate of Don't let me be misunderstood by her and Auger...I'm a big fan.
  10. Ive an Itzy copy of this in my crap box somewhere....Im sure the Itzy is a lot smaller in writing and the record a lot shoddier than the one on Johns turntable.
  11. Were they really seventies boots?? I remember someone in the early nineties remixing Beggin as it was big on the acid jazz-mod scenes...this was released as well.It was remixed longer.I wonder if that's the take they used.?? this was well before the chart remix.Running Back And Forth was also a big tune around the same time as well.Always used to get played at Johnny Timlins Valtone doos in London.
  12. I've got some great letters I got from Rob Bellars between him and Levine about who is playing what which I will dig out when I'm back in the UK. How about some forgotten underplayed sounds. Mickey Laney...Dave Evison spin....was he the original player of this.? Bobby Hebb..you want to change me....?? Linda Glass ...Before Love Beats Me Going? Natural Four... I thought You were mine.Who ?? and which came first ABC or Boola.
  13. An aside from this i found about 300 of the buggers along with about 100 Verve Baby I love You and a load of Sussex 45s in a Brick Lane junkshop.....work that one out!! great thread btw.Can it be merged with the original thread
  14. I would really call it the dumbing down of the scene....not inspiring...it goes with the KTF Nappies, have you got anything we know (when you are playing obvious oldies),Pharrell Williams,Tribute, handbaggers, cheap boots and CDs,piss heads spilling booze, the baggy pants and talc devils.Inspired deejaying was someone at Stoke at 2.00am with a full floor sticking on Hot Line- Reggie Garner....not a well known chart record.
  15. Totally agree...theres loads of great northern soul out there without having to stray into popcorn and other genres.....Phyllis Brown Oh Baby....got that one along with her Ive Got Something On My Mind. Right heres some more Big Dons Rebellion-It Was True Ruby Andrews-Ive Got A Bone To Pick With You Jimmy Armstrong-I Wont See It The Brothers-Secret Place Stella Starr-Bring Him Back Danny Williams-Everybody Needs Somebody These are off the top of my head.....
  16. Yes it would be inspiring!!!!!!
  17. Here´s some that could easily be slipped into a proper northern oldies set. Four Tempos-Got To Have You Holidays-Watch Out Sandpebbles-Love Power Two People-Stop,Leave My Heart Alone Players-Get Right Claudia Green-Skate A While Carlettes-Im Getting Tired Groovers-Bashful Guy Eula Cooper-Standing By Love or Beggars Cant Be Choosey Zola Cindy Scott-In Your Spare Time Sandy And Pebbles-Hes My Kinda Fellow Bobby Jones-Beware A Stranger Lydia Marcelle-Its Not Like You Puzzles-My Sweet Baby Curtis Blandon-In The Long Run Theres thousands of great uptempo northern records...I hope this is where the nostalgia scene is heading.
  18. I wonder if all those Stafford, Shotts etc people are still having babies and bringing up families and in ten years time they will return wearing mullet haircuts and tight denim jeans requesting naughty boy......cue . why do they have to wear those comedy eighties clothes.?.....why don't they look outside the Stafford Top 50.?
  19. I don't think he would get away with any of them at an oldies night in the UK apart from Joey Heatherton and Alice Clark.....more familiar ....people wouldn't dance to the Combinations either although it was played at Stoke and had the dancefloor buzzing................Europe a different kettle of fish.
  20. Barney I love it...but if it was played every time I went out id be sick of it.It's like listening to an oldies radio station and them playing Abba all the time...and then a dj comes on and plays Sky High by Jigsaw or Bilbo Baggins Saturday night.
  21. Butchs " I Wanna Know" ...I was dancing to that in 2000 or thereabouts.Butch must have his own oldies.Re the oldies venues and the top 500.Imho that book contains some of the best northern soul records ever....but you cannot listen to them over and over and over again. If the rare scene were pulling out records of that calibre I think a lot of the oldies people would be flocking there.I considered going up to Lifeline but listened to all the podcasts and just didn't like the.music. The fact is that the rare scene ,European scene and the northern scene are seperate entities and I'm still waiting for the northern scene to start digging up those underplayed sixties tracks and drop the Tribute shite. There's a lot of people talking KTF then posting Lou Pride....hang on if you KTF then surely you must be bored if it.
  22. I'm a regular in Germany and i do like my uptempo northern soul.............not necessarily oldies. They are both different scenes. If anything the Europeans take their cue from the 100 club/Stafford and the funk scenes.Very passionate collectors and deejays...and they don't talk. The only fancy dress is the mod look or rockabilly look. They seem to like the midtempo, crossover and black vocal harmony.I was at Hamburg and enjoyed it and i was at Stoke last Saturday and enjoyed it after 2am...some deejays starting to play some underplayed stuff.I won't be complaining if the big northern venues go this way.European scene and northern scene....they both play soul music but different styles.
  23. Small room till 2 until all the obvious oldies were played then...main room Now you've got the upper hand,Combinations,Nabay,Gerri Hall,Damon Fox,Cliff Nobles,Reggie Garner Hot Line,My Proposal,..in the small room one of the deejays started off great...Eric Mercury,Cecil Washington,Jesse Davis then hecwent r and b rubbish and to top it off a ballad...The Sweets.Music is better after 2 am.Came up from London in a minibus no problems.
  24. I was too late on Dave Flynne's copy....anyone else got one at a reasonable price..vg plus and upwards.PM me please.
  25. He wants his Sandy Golden back Ian.....
