  1. I wonder if all those Stafford, Shotts etc people are still having babies and bringing up families and in ten years time they will return wearing mullet haircuts and tight denim jeans requesting naughty boy......cue . why do they have to wear those comedy eighties clothes.?.....why don't they look outside the Stafford Top 50.?
  2. I don't think he would get away with any of them at an oldies night in the UK apart from Joey Heatherton and Alice Clark.....more familiar ....people wouldn't dance to the Combinations either although it was played at Stoke and had the dancefloor buzzing................Europe a different kettle of fish.
  3. Barney I love it...but if it was played every time I went out id be sick of it.It's like listening to an oldies radio station and them playing Abba all the time...and then a dj comes on and plays Sky High by Jigsaw or Bilbo Baggins Saturday night.
  4. Butchs " I Wanna Know" ...I was dancing to that in 2000 or thereabouts.Butch must have his own oldies.Re the oldies venues and the top 500.Imho that book contains some of the best northern soul records ever....but you cannot listen to them over and over and over again. If the rare scene were pulling out records of that calibre I think a lot of the oldies people would be flocking there.I considered going up to Lifeline but listened to all the podcasts and just didn't like the.music. The fact is that the rare scene ,European scene and the northern scene are seperate entities and I'm still waiting for the northern scene to start digging up those underplayed sixties tracks and drop the Tribute shite. There's a lot of people talking KTF then posting Lou Pride....hang on if you KTF then surely you must be bored if it.
  5. I'm a regular in Germany and i do like my uptempo northern soul.............not necessarily oldies. They are both different scenes. If anything the Europeans take their cue from the 100 club/Stafford and the funk scenes.Very passionate collectors and deejays...and they don't talk. The only fancy dress is the mod look or rockabilly look. They seem to like the midtempo, crossover and black vocal harmony.I was at Hamburg and enjoyed it and i was at Stoke last Saturday and enjoyed it after 2am...some deejays starting to play some underplayed stuff.I won't be complaining if the big northern venues go this way.European scene and northern scene....they both play soul music but different styles.
  6. Small room till 2 until all the obvious oldies were played then...main room Now you've got the upper hand,Combinations,Nabay,Gerri Hall,Damon Fox,Cliff Nobles,Reggie Garner Hot Line,My Proposal,..in the small room one of the deejays started off great...Eric Mercury,Cecil Washington,Jesse Davis then hecwent r and b rubbish and to top it off a ballad...The Sweets.Music is better after 2 am.Came up from London in a minibus no problems.
  7. I was too late on Dave Flynne's copy....anyone else got one at a reasonable price..vg plus and upwards.PM me please.
  8. He wants his Sandy Golden back Ian.....
  9. Beggin gets plays....I'm.going to go for that other Deram biggie My Baby Loves Lovin-White Plains.
  10. I think there's loads of great sixties uptempo dancers out there cheap....which is what i believe the backbone of the scene is.In a way i like this crossover...popcorn ,reggae soul,r&b, latin diversions as it means other collectors are playing with other balls.Prices would be sky high if they were all chasing underplayed great northern records. There's also a lot of people out there on limited budgets with no taste buying crap cheap records and playing them at local doos. The Commands Hey It's Love!! It's crap...but at least youre not chasing a Living End on Essica!! What about this £20 well spent
  11. You need to be on the Rockin scene or the mod rnb scene if your into this stuff...........I like this music and collect it myself but id be pissed off if i went to a rare or northern soul night and this stuff was played. Nothing to do with you not liking oldies.Your'e into a whole different genre of music!!
  12. You have to learn the art of cleaning your records with the shirt on your belly aka The Mighty Bub......or me going on after Ginger Taylor......where's the headphones? theres nowt here....oh says me ....as he lines up the needle hovering over the 45 and then drops the arm while on the mike......plonk...straight into Tranells......I prefer a deejays who has something to say and has a presence rather than a record put eroner....some i know and some i want to know.I go to germany quite a bit and they don't speak.
  13. If he is a returner surely he will want to go to some of the oldies venues like Stoke this Saturday ...if he finds that he knows most of rhe tunes and is a bit bored then The Windsor Suite.People of all ages there.
  14. I before E except after C.
  15. I've a copy of this in my UK pop collection....I bought it for the b side John White which is a great UK pop.sound.
  16. This what says.....Hi Kevin. I did license a vinyl 45 to crazy beat records. Anything else out there is a bootleg. It's amazing how flagrantly the music is being bootlegged on the internet. I have yet to find any legal help to get paid. I still have both the analog and digital masters and I plan to re-release the music as a part of a project ('FROM SEEKING GLORY,TO GIVING GLORY") that will contain the old music, some new music and a book to represent where I am now in my life.
  17. From the horses mouth....The only legitimate release is the Crazy Beat 45...everything else is a bootleg. He is not happy either .
  18. I thought the poster was cheap...I'm after the Leeds Nighter one....someone described it as the amphetamine generations Dunkirk.
  19. 23 rd May 2009 ...Ian Levines s greatest northern soul tracks...Ian loves a synth as well....lol and Richard in on the joke...Leo Costa?? Isn't he the famous bodybuilder??
  20. Cecil Washington is probably not in there because its so rare...even that red label boot isn't that common plus how can you handbag dance to it.I have the first edition which i thought was great and bought the last edition. The choices in that one are reflective of the dumbing down and commercialism of late.I do think it is a true reflection of the oldies and soul night scene in the Uk....Bobby Reed great record I even spun it as an ender at the ELton alldayer but northern soul top 500 material..??? Doug banks is in there even though I think its a stinker but it gets plays all over.
  21. I have an article somewhere about Simons love of synthesizers ...will try and find it.
  22. He who should not be named has played it on one of his Podcasts. He was a big fan of Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl as well......it wasn't all stompers that were booted..Nate evans ..Lynn Vardo Wash and wear love...Cortez Greer...maybe its a coincidence that it has the same two lines as the Magnificents and Simon had acess to the Sweets backing track.Got a great version of It's Too Late by The camelot Strings...now that is rare.Have we had this out whether this is a styrene or vinyl...flat edge or bevelled edge.

  24. I'd be interested in who was playing this years ago as I'm sure this was played in the late 90's or before as i remember dancing to it.......It's the Wes Montgomery style guitar licks I like.I heard it at Hamburg as well.......so a revived oldie.
  25. How can you dance to The Festivals...?? I've yellow demo of it but wouldn't dream of playing it out to a dancefloor.Regarding London clubs Steve G forgot to mention... The Dome alldayer....300 people through the door ...all big oldies played on original viny. Not cutting edge but its better than watching Stars On Sunday! and the promoter Anne is an approachable friendly woman. There's also Soul On The Square in Holborn,Don't Drop Out,Hole In The Wall,Majestic Soul,Filthy Soul,Walls of Heartache.I'm sick of hearing the same old oldies all the time as well but I believe you have to go to events to be able to influence or change anything...think I've bagged a slot on Banbury Radio and will be playing loads of underplayed and some unreleased bits.
