  1. Toad most of the mods don't even understand that the mod scene carried on in the mid seventies. The same ethos new black music and scooters. The 1964 look and the suedehead look was dropped because that was retro...The scooter was a Gp..New!! and the music was uptempo northern. It was only in 79 with the southern revival that the sixties mod look came back.It is funny how when other scenes implode ie the deep funk scene the deejays jump over.James Trouble for one and a host of ex mod deejays bring the funk,r and b and Latin.Great music....but keep the scenes separate.Apologies for no paragraphs I'm tapping this on a train.
  2. I'm open to all sorts of black music to be played on the scene and really look forward to going out to northern soul events and being enlightened to r and b.I can't wait until these enlightened deejays open my mind to Bolivian nose flute soul. It's got all the earthy qualities needed. It's not like the early pan pipes sound which is far too earthy. When I go out I want to dance to it all under the northern soul Umbrella Pharrell,TopsyTurvey,Crass, funk edged soul, ska, early Charlie Parker style bebop,Cajun and Zydeco,UK preduced Library music oh and if there's time for a late sixties obscure soul record it would be appreciated.
  3. What's happened to Sooty????
  4. It's a blues record of course.I love all these r&b records but personally I don't see them as part of the northern soul scene...these were the records that Sandi Sheldon and the uptempo stuff were breaking away from. All of the r&b records wouldn't have been out of place from The Wheel/Scene Club/Last Chance etc and are grittier.Mod music for people in skinny trousers and suits into the sixties style.Northern Soul ....it's not hard.Uptempo late sixties Soul based on the mid late sixties Motown Sound. When it goes wrong is when it's trying to teach old dogs new tricks. Now Capitol Soul Club explained the southern revivalist mod movement from the early eighties.....Shmon-Mr Dynamite,Im Your Breadmaker,Shake Your Hips,Don't Start Crying Now etc etc are the r&b records that they got off on and these style of records are what the Southern Mods took with them when the mod scene imploded and one half went soul and the other half went psych. Now the northern mod Scene pre Quad (which had been an ongoing movement and progressive)and before the southern Mod Revival were into the full on uptempo northern sounds....ie your Sandi Sheldons,Terrible Tom's,Joe Hicks etc etc. Here's Bob Monkhouse from 73......when R&B was not on the radar for mods but northern soul definately was.
  5. Nate Evans and Mean Grean.....Nate Evans and Bus...Im sure Mean Green is the dimply vinyl boot.
  6. More importantly who plays the spoons on it...can't be Clive Dunn.
  7. I had a good conversation with Mani about the scooter scene when I saw Domino Bones.Definitely knows his onions and a lambretta man...still into Dellortos.I've the mid seventies scooter scene footage in colour from super 8.Scarborough 78,Southend 78 and 79.Definitely a northern thing before Quad.
  8. Ted Cassidy The Lurch......Yate!
  9. I go to Europe quite a lot and meet the open minded youngsters there. They seem a lot sharper in regards to clothes and music.A lot of it is not my cup of tea as they are influenced by crossover, mid tempo and r n b but they are into original records and new sounds In a big way.The UK kids in the limelight are those involved in the film who are into oldies and the seventies clobber. Are they going to drop this when the film is out and interest subsided. The former youngsters I'm.more interested in as they have forged their own scene with international links while the UK is focused on the Pharrell Williams baggy trousered film kids. They seem like chalk and cheese.
  10. Right some think think this Northern soul film is a new thing. Here's Frank Gallaghers mrs before she moved .Gail Tilsleys plumber ex got on the pills here before moving to Weatherfield .It's crap really but a great soundtrack.
  11. Are they taking the p**s?? these are professional dancers aren't they who have been dressed up in seventies costumes.I don't think real soul people would do this.I will not be suprised to see a northern segment on Come Dancing....And now The Come Dancing FFFFF FFfootsee Dancers..
  12. I'm into that stuff as well...KPM,Boosey and Hawkes,De Wolfe ,Regency...Afro Rock by John Cameron is a big fave as are the Hawkshaw LP's.I've a soft spot for The Hanged Man soundtrack....Charley Farley two Ronnies sketch music to older readers!.Million miles away from soul though.
  13. Was speaking to an extra from Zulu who said exactly the same thing.I wonder if there's going to be a Floyd Another Brick video scenario.

  15. Graham Bond what an artist but even he wanted a hit.Listen to Tammy. Most of the great music is when the managers left the studio with their cigars and the bands were left to be themselves on the b side.
  16. I thought there were two different archer stamps that differentiate first and second pressings.Different sized stamps.I've heard of records being too slow for the northern scene... Now too fast!!I was dancing to stuff in the same tempo last Sunday at a venue.Where is this "today's scene".?
