The scooter scene brought a lot of people in as well. The Allnighter Club of Great Britain were putting niters on.The mid seventies scooterists used to go to allnighters without the scooters and wore the same clothes. This carried on through the eighties and nineties. There was also a seperate mod revival in the south which was based on bands.A lot of these young kids got into northern after The Jam split up...their clothes were sixties and they got into rnb in a big way...the logical progesssion was the 100 Club.I remember there was a massive modern soul influence. At Newton Aycliffe it was modern non stop but advertised as a northern niter.Pat Brady was on and he said to me im going to stick a few sixties on...first track a little bit Hurt. One mod lad dancing and about 80 wedgeheads staring at him.If you really need to find out what was in you had to buy Echoes for one page.Im amazed when people go to write books and docs and don't look at collections of old Blues And Souls or Echoes.I have about 50 or 60 Echoes back pages which give you a timeline.

Out On The Floor... 80S Tv Film About Northern Soul
Wiggyflat replied to Little-stevie's topic in All About the SOUL
I am sorry for uploading this to my youtube channel and i should have taken into consideration the amount of northern soul pensioners and their copycat knicker flashing antics. On another note I used to have a film called The Breaking Of Bumbo.I lost it for 15 years.Last night i went to an old mates and found the copy in his collection.Brief synopsis.Coldstream guard meets a svelte Joanna Lumley, she is a political activist,he falls for her,she recruits West Ham skins in crombies to attack the barracks,Dim from a Clockwork Orange gets injured, they go to a club where The Graham Bobd Organisation play Spribgtime In The City.I just need a new video to dvd recorder or dvd recorder. -
Someone who should get spoken to is John Vincent...just dug rhis flyer out...properly produced and glossy.Ahead of its time.
-
That is quite funny ...rare soul...snapping a black singers record and then putting on a white pop record...a record I like btw.

I watched it and thought the lead was middle class.Shame i didnt see any old blokes with union badges and woodbine fibgers and in their slicked back grey hair.No abandoned dogs ...one with a broken paw and it would have been nice to see a glistening car park...The brambles farm hotel...its that rough the fookin alsation wears sandals.
-
Just watched it.Love the cockney character reminds me of Sean Adams ,Lisa Stansfields acting is terrible. The lead character is middle class!.How did Suspicion appear with all that knowledge on board. The older dj character was great. This is underground..I thought he was going to stick E.L.P on.An enjoyable Uk film only slightly better than Soulboy.

C4 Paul Mason Asks - Will Northern Soul The Movie Spark A
Wiggyflat replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
Scootering was an underground movement pre Quad.Quad was pushed by the music press and a load of ex punk bands jumped on the bandwagon.Styles and fashions moved on then as well. There was not much looking back. Most of the scooterboys wore bags and dms which were the fashion of the time.Quad brought back sixties styles which was a throwback to another era.Punk dismissed everything from the past...but when you look at punk it stole bits from everything. The only media for the young was TOTP or OGWT...and the music papers. There is so much media and access today that kids are bombarded and can take the pick of everything.Music and fashion was everything then.Less so now.I think northern is now in its That'll Be The Day teddy boy period.! That scene got exaggerated with pink drapes etc...they then had rocknroll weekends at holiday camps...teddy boy famillies were a regular sight..you now have fathers and sons northern soul famillies...the teddy boys in the seventies looked ancient and ridiculous as do people in bags in their fifties. It seems that the film is going to be watched by the already converted. -

Errrr Quad started a mod revival which had been brewing in the south after new wave.Scootering throughout the mid seventies was well established and the directors looked at the already established northern scooter clubs for extras as there were no mods around.York Scooter Club and The Red Lion Scooter Club from Heckmondwicke are in there riding 69 GP's.The british music press pushed the mod revival along with the film as the next big thing. This overtook the already established scooter scene and the revivalist mods were seen as plastic. The music press then had so much power and influence. There is too much going on these days for young people to start a mass revival. The forties look seems to be the thing at the moment.Even Katie Alsop is influenced by it. -
Enchantments is a great garage frat record as is the Deadbeats and 7 Dwarfs. It only sounds wrong in a soul context.Esther Phillips on Dont Say Goodbye sounds like Minnie Mouse.George Lemons sounds terrible.Yan Vatiste played it out recently. It is like a black Chas N Dave record.
-
Va va Voom is one of the few London gigs I go to.Last one I heard,Sherlock Holmes Standing At A Standstill...Dean Anderson played it.I havent heard that out in years..a nice oldie and a suprise. There are hundreds of oldies like this.If this film takes off the Northern Soul And Motown night "on vinyl" will be everywhere.
-
Just turned the gig down...oh well there will be bootleg Dave to jump in i suppose.I want to be at a venue where i can bump into people and talk shit about records etc.I also want to be asking the question whats this?? Oldies were great in the mid 90 s because of all the crap that was being played because it was rare. Now they are hammered and boring.Tons of northern underplayed oldies with the right beat out there but thats a bit hard for bootleg"its whats in the grooves that count" Dave
