Are The Mods Responsible For The Northern/rare Soul Scene ?
Wiggyflat replied to arnie j's topic in All About the SOUL
There were seventies scooter boys at Wigan.Quite a lot but you would not be able to tell as they wore long leather coats and bags. The mod revival look ie the sixties look appeared at Wigan in 79 with the mod revival and the mods niter. -
Jorg Recordshack offered me one recently. Not up my street though.Try him.

Are The Mods Responsible For The Northern/rare Soul Scene ?
Wiggyflat replied to arnie j's topic in All About the SOUL
Yes i would say Tubby Hayes,Ronnie Ross,Don Rendell and the soho jazz scene was responsible.Mod was a naff word after 64...in London and the cities it was flower power..in the suburbs and the north soul music still held sway. The harder look took over...peanuts,smoothies,skinhead then suedehead.Scooters were still being used.It all just evolved.Scooter boys in the mid seventies were into northern soul They wore northern soul fashion. The word mod came back with the sixties revival and Quad. The Modrapheniacs rode from Dorset to Scarborough in 77 on lights and mirrored scoots and were seen as something out of the dark ages. The chrome was dumped. The mods of today are reviving a certain period in time that Quad started.See the attachments...oh yeah the Soho jazz modernists did start it. -
I was looking for one a few months back...I would pay 120 quid.Once the nostalgia boys have got sick of the current crop of records this will be the next in line.

I paid £120 for Pass The Word about 7 weeks ago.Hats off to Va Va Voom for playing it and me getting that got to get this feeling...I think it is good enough to break into Kevs top 100 if it was pushed.I think the b side is poor -
Been playing Stirrin Up Some Soul by The Marketts recently.

Are There B Sides You Still Haven't Played?
Wiggyflat replied to Funky 4 Corners's topic in Look At Your Box
Ive been playing the b side of Thank The Lord For Love the last few days..go on try it. -
Ooh who has a great collection we can book for the next event...who is that bloke we had on last time...yeah i remember him.He was sat behind the decks stroking his Lou Pride while the Simon Saucepan copy was playing.Yeah remember when the mysterious OVO Police stormed the stage and searched his record box and checked his matrix numbers...he had a boot of each original..deejay...play the things.Collector stay at home with your white gloves.

"it's whats's in the grooves that counts".Often said by two bit bootleg Bob.You have to have some rules. The days of dropping a booted record are gone so the playing of originals has taken over.If there wasn't that rule you would have every Tom,Dick and Bob deejaying.Nights would be springing up everywhere playing the records that Bob,Dick and Harry would love to have played in 75.Come on all of this original lark is too hard. You play by my rules as they are curently being rewritten? Any news on who won the northern soul awards? Basically if you want to be in the gang and you sold up then Im sorry the gang won't accept you with your booty tat.The only way in would be to put your own doo on.Bootleg Bob don't come on here looking for acceptance...you either have The Tomangoes or you dont.Stick another record on and leave The Tomangoes to someone that has it.No amount of soul Police,snobs...but but but it's on Grapevine...will change it.

Regarding the scooter scene. There were large numbers of scooterists in the mid seventies going to northern allnighters and venues. The scooters were usually left at home for niters and they wore contemporary northern soul fashion. This lasted up until the mod revival of 79 which was a southern media led movement.A lot of the northern scooter lads jacked it in.The main seventies runs were to Scarborough and northern soul clubs like Rudies.Right the eighties...scooter runs always had niters and events on with John Buck,Brian Rae etc etc and the allniter club of Great Britain. There were even boots specifically made for the scooter scene.Dobie Gray pic disc springs to mind.Scooter scene music got more diverse..ie I.O.W fiasco and northern niters were stopped. The Niter Club of GB pulled out and vfm took over....speak to John Buck.

Echoes fron 1990 to 92 ...why i kept these pages i don't know. Will try and find playlists.look how midtempo that alt oldies chart is

The scooter scene brought a lot of people in as well. The Allnighter Club of Great Britain were putting niters on.The mid seventies scooterists used to go to allnighters without the scooters and wore the same clothes. This carried on through the eighties and nineties. There was also a seperate mod revival in the south which was based on bands.A lot of these young kids got into northern after The Jam split up...their clothes were sixties and they got into rnb in a big way...the logical progesssion was the 100 Club.I remember there was a massive modern soul influence. At Newton Aycliffe it was modern non stop but advertised as a northern niter.Pat Brady was on and he said to me im going to stick a few sixties on...first track a little bit Hurt. One mod lad dancing and about 80 wedgeheads staring at him.If you really need to find out what was in you had to buy Echoes for one page.Im amazed when people go to write books and docs and don't look at collections of old Blues And Souls or Echoes.I have about 50 or 60 Echoes back pages which give you a timeline.

Out On The Floor... 80S Tv Film About Northern Soul
Wiggyflat replied to Little-stevie's topic in All About the SOUL
I am sorry for uploading this to my youtube channel and i should have taken into consideration the amount of northern soul pensioners and their copycat knicker flashing antics. On another note I used to have a film called The Breaking Of Bumbo.I lost it for 15 years.Last night i went to an old mates and found the copy in his collection.Brief synopsis.Coldstream guard meets a svelte Joanna Lumley, she is a political activist,he falls for her,she recruits West Ham skins in crombies to attack the barracks,Dim from a Clockwork Orange gets injured, they go to a club where The Graham Bobd Organisation play Spribgtime In The City.I just need a new video to dvd recorder or dvd recorder. -
Someone who should get spoken to is John Vincent...just dug rhis flyer out...properly produced and glossy.Ahead of its time.
-
That is quite funny ...rare soul...snapping a black singers record and then putting on a white pop record...a record I like btw.
