  1. She still does, early Saturday evenings.
  2. You are probably right there, maybe I just recall JT because the music he played seemed to include plenty of obscure American danceable records that appealed to my ears. I do remember that he seemed to be very knowledgeable (may have been scripted by someone else of course) about the records he played. I used to listen to SOTS at work on a regular basis and when Brian Matthew took over, the show definitely went a lot more 'middle of the road' in terms of music policy. Tony Blackburn is OK, but I reckon they should have handed the show over to Dale Winton (really)
  3. Yep, that's the one. Atrocious in my opinion.
  4. Not that many thankfully! Jimmy presented the show in the 1980's.
  5. Hmmm, yes I heard it this morning too... There was a nice little pre-amble from Phil 'the collector' Swern, as soon as he mentioned the FIP label, I turned the radio up, ready for an unexpected treat, only to hear that the Mel Britt track was a re-recording of some some description, with an extended fade and looped vocals. The beat sounded digitised and 'Northerned up'. Not heard that version before and I don't particularly want to hear it again. Sounds of the Sixties was better when Jimmy Tarbuck presented it in my humble opinion. He really seemed to know his stuff, he played lots of obscure American recordings too. In those days he was playing real records and not some mp3 or Wav file that hasn't been checked for authenticity. Sorry for being a bit grumpy, but I've had few pints
  6. If, as you say, the recipient is not even responding to PayPal, that is pretty short-sighted on his part. If your payment came via your credit card, rather than a balance in your PayPal account, it may be worth having a chat wth your credit card company, they may be able to do something. I work on the theory that the vast majority of people are decent and honest, so you've been very unlucky there. £200 is a lot of money to lose. Good luck in trying to get it back.
  7. Sorted for Dottie and Millie -
  8. Looking for the following two 45s: Dottie and Millie - Talkin' about my baby - Topper Gerri Diamond - Only you - Counterpart Must look and play in at least Excellent condition - photos and sound clips would be appreciated. Please PM with condition and price if you have either one for sale. Thanks, Andrew
  9. There is an original UK issued Chess copy around too, I bought it from Chris Savory at one of his record fairs. He was a massive fan of The Dells and insisted that I bought it blind, with the offer of returning it if I didn't like it. 35 years later, I still own it.
  10. This is awful news. I first met Terry 37 years ago when I was just 17. I've shook that guys hand more times than I can possibly remember. Where does the time go? He was a lovely, thoughtful, unassuming man. RIP old pal Andy
  11. Jeez, I feel quite aroused after reading through all those flowery descriptions
  12. I can recommend the CD below, https://acerecords.co.uk/some-kinda-magic-the-songs-of-jerry-ross OK, it's not all Northern, or soul, but there's some great stuff on it. The other songwriter series CDs on Ace are excellent too. Hopefully there'll be a Randazzo/Pike/Hart compilation soon...
  13. Nice, Do you use the 45 speed adapter, or is it LP's only on that beauty?
  14. Nice to see the Linn Basik record player - I see far too much rare and collectible vinyl being played on 'toy' turntables these days.
  15. Yep, My introduction to Northern Soul was in 1975 at the age of 12, via the Pye Great Disco Demands LP. Frankie and the Classicals was my favourite track on that album, I used to play it over and over again.
  16. I guess because, A: It's a genuinely great 'iconic' 45 B: It's always in great demand, most of us older collectors have a copy, but the newcomers have yet to bag one. I agree that it's become very expensive, but as in all areas of collecting, the real quality stuff always retains it's status. As ever, values are a combination of desirability, condition and rarity. Desirability is the key with this methinks.
  17. I think Fascinating Girl is a brilliant record, to me it's one of those records where the individual elements are not exactly polished performances, but when all mixed together, you end up with a bit of musical magic. I see the George Pepp 45 in much the same way.
  18. This one gets my vote, used to be guaranteed to get me and the other clappers on their feet.
  19. Correct, that would've been the venue name at the time.
  20. I was there that night. If I remember correctly, the live appearance was at the Fenn Green hotel on the Kidderminster to Bridgnorth road.
  21. Just a 'heads up', in case anybody on Soul Source has a bid, or is planning to make a last minute bid on the above item. I asked the seller to confirm that it was in Near Mint condition as stated in the title, he got back to me and said that he didn't realise it was advertised as NM, because he just 'copied the title from a previous listing'. I suspected that this may have been the case. Anyway, for those that are interested, from his reply to me, it sounds like a VG condition record. He was honest enough with me, but as I write, the listing hasn't been amended to reflect it's true condition.
  22. To be fair, she clearly states 'I am of course open to very sensible offers', so if a sensible offer is accepted, you'll get one hell of a discount off the current £670 high bid
  23. BBC Radio 2 playing this a lot lately, definitely growing on me.
  24. 'We cherish the music' - There goes that 'it's all about the music' line again. The music is cherished by collectors/DJs that care enough to seek out the genuine 45s, it is also cherished by companies that legally re-issue it on CD from original master tapes (where available), Ace/Kent being the finest example. It is cherished by those on our scene that seek out the artists that created those records and tell them how those often forgotten recordings they made are revered by us soulies, Andy Rix and Ady Croasdell, being just two examples. Being happy to dance to dodgy sounding fake records, spun by fake DJs is not cherishing the music, it's fake - just like this thread, this whole thing has to be a wind up and I must congratulate you on getting three pages out of this so far Merry Christmas
