  1. I noticed last night that some shitehawk has apparently put the film online for downloading/streaming though. It seems that nothing is sacred anymore. I just hope they get caught.
  2. I've always been of the opinion that Craig Charles is to Funk, as Stuart Maconie is to Northern Soul. In defence of Craig Charles though, I do like him in Coronation Street.
  3. Nah, I've had a saved search for 'Epitone of Sound' since the famous Pete S acquisition - with no luck whatsoever!
  4. I had been wondering what age rating the film was going to be, turns out to be '15'. From the BBFC website: APPROVED RUNNING TIME 101m 50s RELEASE DATE 17/10/2014 BBFCINSIGHT strong language, drug use, sex CUT This work was passed uncut.
  5. Just had a quick look on Popsike, it seems that I got £20 for my copy back in 2010.
  6. Surprised to see that Joy Marshall was thought rare/desirable enough to justify auctioning by JM - Having said that, £78 is a very good result for the seller IMHO, especially when you consider that he used Gary Glitter's name in the flowery sales blurb!
  7. I love the Tony Blackburn show - he can be quite funny at times and often mentions Lenny Gamble. I usually listen whilst tidying the garden, it turns a chore into a happy couple of hours. The programme can sometimes stir up some vivid memories of people and places for me. In fact, it's about to start in a few minutes.
  8. Loving your updates and infectious enthusiasm, thanks! Andrew
  9. If you have one for sale, please PM with details of condition, price and UK postage cost. Thanks, Andrew

  15. BBC Breakfast 20th December 2011. Pete Waterman and Elaine Constantine discuss Northern Soul. 2011 Northern Soul on BBC Breakfast
  16. BBC2 25th sep 2013 In my opinion, this is the best documentary about the Northern Soul scene to date, it's been done with love and affection. Produced and Directed by Maurice O'Brien and Edited by David Arthur. Most documentaries covering the music that I love make me cringe, this one gives me goosebumps. Featured tracks are: Sandi Sheldon - You're Gonna Make Me Love You Earl Jackson - Soul Self Satisfaction The Exciters - Blowing Up My Mind The Precisions - If This Is Love Major Lance - The Beat The Vel-Vets - I Got To Find Me Somebody Edwin Starr - Time Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons - The Night Duke Browner - Crying Over You The Parliaments - I Wanna Testify The Vibrations - Cause You're Mine 7th Avenue Aviators (AKA Frankie Karl & The Chevrons) - You Should O' Held On Turley Richards - I Feel Alright Mel Britt - She'll Come Running Back Dobie Gray - Out On The FLoor The Salvadors - Stick By Me Baby The Carstairs - It Really Hurts Me Girl Jimmy Radcliffe - Long After Tonight Is All Over Holly St James - That's Not Love Gene Chandler - There Was A Time Gloria Jones - Tainted Love The Jades - I'm Where It's At Tobi Legend - Time Will Pass You By
  17. Hi Paul, The Audio Technica LP1240 can be found for around £375, so it is not what you would call cheap. It is not a 'USB turntable' but a good quality turntable that happens to have a USB facility - I trust that makes sense to you. Yes, it will play straight into your laptop. I use mine as a front end in a Naim Audio system and it sounds fine.
  18. I'm guilty too, I even went on to buy 'After loving you' on RK by Wigans Ovation. It was only after seeing Nicky Wilson on Casino Classics red vinyl, that I stopped and thought 'Hang on a minute, this isn't Northern Soul is it?' In my opinion, that programme last night was a fairly honest interpretation of how it was - warts and all. It was pretty much how I remembered it.
  19. Yep, a documentary covering the 80's would be nice.
  20. I thought it was well paced, well explained and easy to follow - good for those viewers that weren't really sure what Northern Soul was/is. Good to see a few short teasers for the upcoming film. Nice tribute to Fran Franklin at the end too.
  21. Hi Dave, They are only available second hand, unfortunately. Finding a smart looking pair might prove difficult. Ebay will be your best bet, I sold an unused pair there a couple of months back - sorry! Andrew
  22. Given that record is vinyl and not Styrene, that must really take some doing!
  23. If you exclude really cheap/crap turntables, belt drive is the preferred choice of audiophiles due to the fact that the belt isolates the vibration of the motor from the platter and, in turn, the record groove itself. Everything is built to a price and for this reason, audiophile turntables often tend to be missing 'extras' like strobe lights, automatic speed change, brakes, pitch controls etc, that way, more money is spent on parts that affect sound quality - better quality motors and tonearm bearings that provide reliable accurate speed stability and friction free tonearm movement. A cynic might argue that belt drive is simply much cheaper to produce and make a higher profit on of course... Having said all that, I have just replaced my belt drive 'high end' Michell Gyrodec with a direct drive Audio Technica LP1240 DJ turntable because it is far more convenient for playing 45s, built like a tank, has a USB port and a built-in phono stage. My 'HiFi' listening isn't done via vinyl anymore and when playing NS 45s, the difference in sound quality between the two is negligible.
