In the 1980s I remember John Venn aka ‘Esher’, could really talk on the mic, you’d often get a potted history of a 45 before he played it!
Then there was Dancing Derek Allen, who was great on the mic, danced and played imaginary instruments. The guitar break in Pat & The Blenders springs to mind.
Then you have Keith Money who says little, but plays great records and is fascinating to watch as he goes through his set, fully in the zone.
Each one of those guys are very different, each had/have great style.

Yes, the third picture holds some memories for me.
Summit records had a shop on the left, near the carousel. There was a good fish and chip shop there that I frequented, too. I'd eat lunch sat on a bench next to the carousel going through the reggae and soul records I'd bought and wondered how I was going to justify them all to mum when I got back home to Kidderminster.
The rastafarians carrying 'ghetto-blasters' on their shoulders seemed to come from all directions too, you heard them well before you saw them! They always looked so cool to me!
St Martin's Church was a regular venue for record fairs in those days aswell.

Time correctionThis footage is brilliant, it reminds me of my happiest days out and about. However, I don’t ever recall hearing the record at 2:32:48 before. It sounds pretty good to my ears.
Can someone name it for me, please?

Question, what have they based this on? I hear 'Turning my Heartbeat up, obviously, with inflection down at the end of that phrase, and that backing with the plonking piano, I can't place it, but its a big record...
Du na nu-nu nu-nu nu-nu Nu, repeat - repeat etc... can anybody sheet read my jibberish! laughing
Hi Malc,
Could you be thinking of the backing to Quick Change Artist, The Soul Twins?
Unfortunately, because they’ve clearly borrowed bits and riffs from elsewhere, it ends up sounding like a contrived bowl of cold Northern Soul soup.

Just for the Record (yes i will take that as a pun Ha Ha) 😊
It was far better than lot of Pop Drivel that was played on the Scene over the years and judging by that from comments on the thread so far, Dave Thorley Played it on the Dodgy Acetate,Chalky and myself were playing it off the LP and like me must have had many people up to the Turntables to see what was being played,
Rob5airborne was Chasing it to find out it's identity and been Bugging him for over 30 years Rated it as a 'Absolutely Blinding Track'
Blackpoolsoul has been trying to gleam some information on Allan Scott and seems there is just nothing out there about him, but thanks for all your efforts 😃 **So yes, for a 'Quality Pop Record' it certainly got the Juices Flowing Back Then & Now It Would Seem**
Funnily enough, I was playing it off the LP at a Sunday afternoon session a few years ago, a guy came over, looked at the decks and walked away again. Until I saw this topic, I had no idea why he did it, because I was not aware of Arthur Prysock 7" press.

My understanding is this.
Real session musicians were used to form the backbone of the music, the Northern/60’s feel and arrangements were created using AI wizardry. The lyrics were written by Colin, but all vocals were completely AI generated.
I think Colin’s honest big reveal well-ahead of any 45s being released for general sale was a wise decision.

My knowledge is limited, but the only time I came across this recording without the piano intro was on a Soul Supply CD a good few years ago. It may be that the audio on the YouTube video has come from this source.
Also, ‘Weirdest’ was spelled as ‘Wierdest’ on the original and on the most recent boot. The earlier boot from the 90s (early 2000’s?) had the correct spelling.

He's probably just played twenty tunes that ain't in the "Top 500" that the "mainstream" crowd have never heard.
Don't forget the important point that everyone misses , the norvern soul' scene died and disappeared in 1981 with the close of some bingo hall oop north and remained lost until some enterprising yoof in Bristol resuscitated it and restarted the whole thing some 40-odd years later.
😄 👍

Wanted, in VG++ / Ex condition or better:
Gerri Diamond - Only You (can feel the loss) on Counterpart.
If you have one to sell, please PM with a price, condition and how it plays, please. A good photo of the 45 would be nice too.
Thank you,
Andy.
