  4. Hi Rob Hope you are well buddy.....working abroad at present so not home that regularly, so promoting anything at the moment has had to take a back seat, as Len mentioned earlier I still have the enthusiasm, but regardless I think there are too many events right now, I;m waiting until I'm working back in the UK or my leave dates back to the UK become a lot more reliable . The Uptown Down South Nighters at Newbury I did in your club were something I feel very proud of.......you & Elaine were always fantastic & brilliantly supportive & you worked tirelessly with regard to the behind the scenes support you always gave...I will be back at some point, but the timing is crucial. Would love to know what you have in mind with regards to the Newbury club......PM me mate. Love to Elaine Best Russ
  5. Your mad !!!....once did a 2 hour set & that was enough, by the end couldnt wait to get off to be honest, I think 90 min sets max to keep the quality up On the NS scene, longer sets are great, get chance to build sets etc, but 6 hours is wayyyyyyy to long IMO......lets hopr the punters are happy with one DJ for the entirety. Best Russ
  6. One room for me please with the lot goin' on & DJ's mixing it up sensibly in one set..... 6ts, 7ts,Oldies, newies, Modern, Xover, stomping, midtempo, & soulful, if its got the X factor play it........including appropriate new releases..........thats my soul heaven & always was. NS is just a record that is popular at Nighters, there's no rules...... I have my favourite DJ's these days, but would love to see Spenna DJ out again, lots more of Carl Fortnum & Shifty should get behind the decks again too & of course...Irish Greg, Flynny...... exciting DJ's, who got excited over records & create an atmosphere, they can build sets properly & drop in the newies between more established sounds whilst still being creative & working the floor...................promoters should also have a vision for the venue & create a sound that is the 'sound' of that venue, thats what creates the buzz & a loyal following.........dont book boring DJ's who are just going thru the motions, spend time choosing residents who will create the kinda sound & atmosphere you want & choose guest DJ's carefully to compliment them, not just a big play box & no enthusiasm, passion or commitment to the cause & promote the bloody thing properly, work ya friggin ass off, put flyers in peoples hands & look em in the eye, make it personal, create a bond with ya punters. I want another Droyesden (spelling), Shotts, Albrighton, Newbury, Tony's type nighter & soul nights like the Dome & Water Rats, walk in these places & it was f*ckin electric..some of the so called Nighter goers these days would piss em selves....dark, sweaty, pounding & exciting, not a local hotel in sight, no cakes or sweeties cos if you ate summat you'd boff......n you come out into the blinding day light with your ears ringing & your head spinning, full of last nights 'sounds' & knowing you'd had a proper night............& nothing would be the same until Tuesday, when you would decide to sell up ........but by Wednesday you were planning the next lost weekend........its all a bit vanilla right now......pass me a Latte.........phewwww got carried away there a bit, but you get the point dontcha. . Best Russ
  7. In a nut shell & encapsulates the PROPER NS Scene, the one I got in to & still love passionately......see you on a dance floor at a real Nighter soon..Mr Abbott........prepare ones self for a road trip !!!Best Russ
  8. There are CP dist releases with different wordings & formats.....look at the scans on Popsike & Youtube mate. Russ
  9. Anymore anyone ? Russ
  10. Double post soz.
  11. Not all were distributed by CP Chalky, there was a local issue too & several different vaiations of credits etc on the label & two different play times & numbers ??? Russ
  12. There are two different numbers for this.......SS - 217671 (No girls) 2.28 mins long, plain label design & few credits or print on label & SS - 5002 A (With & without girls & at least two label variations), plus the weird thing is on this label design it has 2.17 as the play time...........???. Anyone have the full story pse. Best Russ
  13. I think I'm getting mixed up with Little Tommy on SOS with the ebay thingy BTW....a sound file would be great Richard if you could post one up pse, thx. Russ
  14. Cant believe I'll be in the frickin' desert still - one of the best Nighters ever when Ady dropped the first batch of unissued RCA stuff in a oner at the 100 Club, place was electric.......I'm sure the PP stuff will do the very same at this years Anniversay, I'll be thinkin of y'all ya lucky b'stards.....any spare anniversary 45's folks let me be the first to say I'll pay the market price, what ever that might be for ya spare the next day...... Kudos Ady Best Russ
  15. I'm not sure mate as I have never knowingly heard the GT version. I thought the Golden Triangle version was an early 7ts re issue ?. Do the two SOS versions, girly & non girly exist in both local & Cameo Parkway distributed releases ?. Which SOS release is the hardest - anyone know ?. You see these on ebay every month, yet they still go for reasonable money - weird. Out of interest when Butch reactivated this some years ago which version was he playing, anyone confirm, I think it was the girly one, but memories shot to bits. Best Russ
  16. Right minded promoters being the KEY phrase...other wise we end up with a souless, money grabbing consortium with a stangle hold on the scene.Best Russ
  17. Which is the BEST/PREFERRED version, with the girls on backing or without ? Also how many label variants are there of each version & which are the hardest to find ?. Best Russ
  18. I am a bit .....f*ck em all, I'll be searching out proper Nighters & dancing to imaginative soul music for a long time yet, passsing scores of wannabe, neverwillbe Pussy soul nights on the way up the M6 or where ever, my nearest nighter is 2 hours away, most a min of 4........& while we're at it, what the feck is a Mini Nighter !!!......its either a Nighter or not, before 6am finish NOT,NOT,NOT....stop kiddin' ya selves. Russ
  19. Cant remember exact details, but the press with 'Dish A Tune' & Fast & Slow underneath the song title are the slightly later presses (mix?) done by Charles Hunter who was a memeber of the backing band. The presses without this are the original Shiptown first release. Both are desirable with the original Shiptown release being the rarer. I have heard that within the last couple of years another press has been done from the original stampers of the 'Dish A Tune' vesion. They look identical, but in the dead wax is the United pressing plant stamp, which indicates these were done recently.........this is from memory, so please can someone confirm. They have been sold as originals. Hope this helps some Ivor. Best Russ
  20. It will all be alright in the end, the true die hard soul fans rescued it back from the tourists & hand baggers at least once before & we will again, its all about the SOUL & I'm in this for the long haul....... Russ
