  1. I am suprised no else has passed comment on this. I think the 'Carvers' were actually only a small part of a bigger pressing organisation, but I'm not sure entirley. Best Russ
  2. If its radio IMO you'd be better off playing from MP3 or CD, no need to play a low fi vinyl bootleg. I think if you are 'show casing' from your collection then I would 'burn' my stuff to CD beforehand. Most radio studios are only set up for these formats anyway. Best Russ Could you explain to me what a 'Chin Strokers' do is please, as I'm not sure I've ever seen these advertised or are you one again making inflamatory comments in the passive aggressive way we have come to know you for......... Best Russ
  3. I have a very good friend who during one of thier promotions realised that one of the regular DJ's was playing a fair proportion of boots n carvers during his set. It states very clearly on the club blurb that the event is original vinyl. My friend went to the decks, asked the DJ in the middle of his set to make that his last record & was politely asked to leave, he has never returned. No fuss, punters were generally blissfully unaware.......but in my opinion this was the correct cause of action. Best Russ
  4. The dynamic duo.....sh*t I miss Gary's sets.......hope ya well Paul Best Russ
  5. Monster cover up for Gary Spencer early to mid 9ts........ Russ
  6. 'After almost nine very successful and fulfilling years, new challenges are waiting - so we've decided to sell VinylCarvers. The sale is not finalized yet, but it's likely to happen within the coming 1-2 months. (i.e. if you know someone interested in taking over - we're still open for offers) This is your last chance to order from us. We have no exact timeframe yet but will try our best to fulfil your orders for xmas and new years eve. It will be on a first come first serve basis, please keep that in mind. Werner is increasingly busy as a producer again and we simply don't have enough time anymore. We would like to thank you so much for your business and support over the years - we will miss you! Tina and Werner' Just received this email from Vinyl Carvers - love em or hate em Vinyl Carvers gave a great service & product & even gave us a NS buzzword with Carvers'. Good luck to Tina & Werner in thier new projects. Russ
  7. This was a popular play for me some years ago, lots of folk would ask about it & cos its available those folk have bought & requested it & now I'm very pleased to know you are enjoying it too Carms....onwards & upwards. Love the male vox too. Best Russ
  8. That is a fantastic post Joan & agree entirely with all your points MUSIC first every time for me. Best Russ
  9. I must have heard it cos I have all the Ol VA Soul CD's.......dont think I was very attuned to da funk back then tho to be honest, the funk thing was & still is a bit of a labour of love for me..........I'll av to dig em out when I get back home... Russ
  10. Apparently there is another 45 by WC & was told it was quite funky, but never seen or heard it myself, think it was Andy Dyson who told me this ? Best Russ
  11. A friend of mine was telling me that the Zeke & the Soul Setters discs all came out in a relatively short period of time. One of the band, Zeke maybe, was terminally ill & they were trying to score a hit before he passed on, thats why William Cummings & Jay Griffin were credited, so the records wernt all credited to the band as such, apparently both were members of ZATSS & WC was actually a horn player.........not sure how reliable this info is, but interesting all the same. Best Russ
  12. Why would they feel out of place ?, I cant understand why folk constantly imply that these places are unwelcoming.......I've never felt unwelcom any where I can think of ever..... Russ
  13. I'm good mate, be home in 2 weeks, so hope to see ya....thx for the reply. Best Russ
  14. Out of interest with regards to Soul Nights, as opposed to an Allnighter, what would be considered a reasonable distance between promotions on the same night........an hours drive maybe ?. Sallie n Bearsy (& other South Coast punters) would you attend a Soul Night Venue in the South Coast area ish with a music policy that covered oldies & newies with some Crossover & Modern thrown into the mix, or at least be prepared to give it a try ?. Just interested . Best Russ
  15. I'm not saying this wasnt the case, but what quantity are we talking about here & how do we know ???.........Whilst it was played at the Mecca, it never really got the true recognition it deserved until much later, so was there a demand for it then ?. The original run couldnt have been more than 300/500 (?)......In my experience a difficult record to locate......certainly no copies swanning around in Richmond when I was there & I worked very hard at locating copies & in the end bought my copy from the UK, that one came from an old burnt out record store in Richmond, in which I spent a memorable day covered in soot n sh*t, with no electrics & literally risked life & limb going thru the stock, only to find the dynamic duo of Chris & Shifty had hit it a few weeks before......where you guessed it, Shifty found the WC that I ended up buying . Russ
  16. Cos at least one of em has bootlegged Steves idea & as we speak is setting up the Worlds Biggest Soul Village........ . Watch this space Russ
  17. What about the oldies only promotions getting a teeny bit more diverse also, why is it that the real NS Allnighters/Soul Nights, try to accomdate the oldies crowd a little, but its never reciprocated from what I can see......there's got to be some give & take. Best Russ
  18. Brilliant !!!.......Ann Nesby could sing pretty much owt n it would sound wonderful. Best Russ
  19. You see the 8ts reissue of Sugarhill go for more than this ??? Russ

  23. Try & keep your remarks constructive buddy, Elaine is my friend & whilst I have reservations about films like Soulboy, Elaine has/is on a labour of love, so whilst your entitled to voice your opinions 'prefabricated Piece of sh*t ' is a very poor choice of words. Best Russ
