  1. Yes he was & another can of worms that was.......trouble is, when discussing IL, you always end up embroiled in controversy........usually created by Ian himself....... Russ
  2. To be fair Rich, I think my personal perception of IL, was marred during the second coming........I found the mans attitude to be terrible. Again, I find it difficult to seperate my personal feelings from my musical feelings when listening to IL productions, some times the ego takes over.....there are some IL productions that are ok though, althought the constant harping on about the Four Vandals I find strange, a terrible record infamous by the fact it was designed to deliberately dupe people, I dont think its a coincidence that some who were duped think the record is ok . Best Russ
  3. 100 Club, 100 Club, 100 Club............Madame JoJo's. Russ
  4. There are a hand ful of IL productions that I find palatable, but on the whole not a fan. Four Vandals - Butch.........I dont think so, Ginger deffo, Butch far to switched on for that old chestnut..........If Ian could have kept his mouth shut, he´d be coining it in again ploughing out stuff on the circuit like the others............but his ego wouldnt allow him to keep it shut. It could also be said that he was finding records in the US when if you had the access it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Best Russ
  5. Cant wait..... Russ
  6. I was being polite ........for once !!! Best Russ
  7. Its not bad, but Jeff Perry is much better..... Russ I was asking him if the mythical writers demos existed for the BD LP...........now that would be a find !!!.......he would neither confirm nor deny......wernt the Perry brothers house writers for Chess too ? Russ
  8. Its not bad, but Jeff Perry is much better..... Russ
  9. I hope these funerals will all be OVO . Russ
  10. No, I would have thought that they were just punting the acetate out for anyone to pick up...... Russ
  11. Did this a week ago.......... Best Russ
  12. It says outstanding contribution to someone on the scene - nothing to do with the artists, otherwise I think we would have all put the artists first.... Best Russ
  13. Northern Soul WAS not in decline, just cos some people stopped going doesnt mean there wasnt a FANTASTIC scene - dont believe the hype from the pretenders. John Anderson Ady Croasdell Dave Godin Best Russ
  14. Depends on which cut I think, altho both versions are rare. Best Russ
  15. Hi all Not a great lover of instrumentals, but Backstreet - Detroit Rhythm Section is one of my all time faves. I believe it was a one off acetate, it was played by Guy in the mid/late 8ts. It has been discussed very briefly on SS previously, within other threads, but I wondered if anyone had any other information on this, is it a 'one off' acetate or was it cut from tapes, who is it really, where did it come from, who owns it now ?. Any information much appreciated & thanks to Pete Smith for a little information already. Best Russ
  16. I think you'll find Dave is Dyslexic . Russ
  17. Well , if I'm correct (?), it was over 3 years ago, in Plymouth & wasnt an Allnighter.....lol.......not certain, but I could have even still have been living abroad too, so would have been pretty difficult to have been there.... Best Russ
  18. You know what. qualities in a person that were once admired on this scene are turned around & your now made to look like a c*nt.......I'm about f*cked off with it to be honest.......makes ya feel like wrapping ya tits in & staying away until the handbaggers & wannabees disappear again & we get back to a real scene with genuine people who love & respect the music & the real traditon of NS. You lot just wont give in will ya....not aimed at anyone particular before folk start getting thier knickers in a twist.......... Russ
  19. Yes you are wrong, why would I call you a liar, just interested in when & where it was thats all, why the mystique ??? Russ

  22. Del Larks - Not that Spider aint good, but that intro & those harmonies, a vey special record in many, many ways..... Best Russ
  23. I dont know where you live mate, but in 20 odd years off & on promoting on the South Coast, I have never come across a 'decent' venue that didnt want top dollar, as for paying us, well thats just out of this world....... Best Russ
  24. The answer to this post is employ DJ's that own the originals......quite easy really, its not rocket science, but hey, then certain types wouldnt get to DJ would they & that is the crux of the whole thread.....wannabee DJ's who cant cut it at proper venues cos they aint got the tackle & cant be arsed to put the leg work in to find em, probably wouldnt even know were to start.....its just turning the whole thing into a circus !!!........... Start your own venue, cos no one would have you DJ otherwise, then get similar promoters/DJ's to do a turn at yours for a turn at thiers, that way you create your own little pond where you can pretend you KTF right on soul brothers n sisters........BTW you can then start undermining the real deal, by ridiculing & undermining the original ethos.........creating buzz phrases like 'the punters dont care', 'soul police', soul snobs', chin strokers' & turning other phrases like 'Rare Soul' into dirty words....... Best Russ
  25. I know Pete - the links expired now - thanks anyway mate. Best Russ
