  1. Yes, it was reissued legally on a Crazy Cajun CD. I quite like it. There was no legal 45 as far as I'm aware. Best Russ
  2. It makes me feel so frustrated that people can get this so wrong & then argue that this is Northern Soul, I feel helpless to be able to say or do anything that might convince people, that this is so far away from what NS was about as to be in another universe......they have been brain washed into beleving this is the 'real deal'...........& we're the ones who have it all wrong, as promoters these guys have got it made..........'And as the 3 before 8 played the Wigan faithful Okey Kokied away on the dance floor.......' . I now have to convince myself some how, that the lengths I have to go to sometimes to get my fix are really worth it......maybe it would just be better to let these folk get on with destroying what has been a big part of my life for soooooo many years & just except any real scene is in its last dieing throws, before being lost forever........it makes me sad, how can something so special have come to this..... I think now I'm really at the stage were the music is king & I can enjoy it in other ways other than as part of a scene.......Dave you were right mate . Russ
  3. Good comedy writes itself, I'm sure you guys are lovely & well meaning, but honestly...... Russ
  4. Sorry not getting this, what has my footer got to do with crass soul events designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator, to get the maximum amount of money out of the scene from folk who know no better & think that is what its all about ?. Best Russ
  5. How ironic . Russ
  6. Not home again until later in the month . Russ
  7. It wasnt directed at you personally mate, it was a general comment, being passionate about the scene doesnt seem to count for anything these days, just attracts ridicule & the usual crappy Rare comments..........just not worth the bother. Russ
  8. Oh well, regardless of whats said on here life will go on as Len says, so I'll try & refrain from comments as I end up lowering myself & its not worth the effort....... Russ
  9. Thought better of it..... Russ
  10. Thats because until ya nose is rubbed in it, you dont care...........& that scene has f*ck all to do with me. Russ
  11. Hope your well Karen Russ
  12. Lock the doors & set fire to the place.......lets have a cull  . Russ
  13. Its a circus, a big embarrassing one, they have hi jacked my scene & turned it into this.........go out enjoy ya selfs, do what you pse, I dont have a problem with anything other than calling this tripe part of the NS Scene, its sickening & we need to remove ourselves from this drivvle........Northern Soul has become a laughing stock to all but these buffoons & the so called promoters who see em coming kerching, kerching, kerching.....some fool in a minuit will be up here defending em as well.....this almost the final straw for me to be honest, love the music with all my heart, but this kinda thing I cannot stomach & I dont want to be seen as part of it to be honest......... Russ
  14. 'See You Next Year Guy's'........No you f*cking wont, I'd rather drip sulphuric acid down my own japs eye, after first making a bonfire out of my record collection in the back garden.........Northern Soul, what a joke.......Roberts n Searling laughing all the way to the bank..........I'm seriously wondering whether to go ut again. Best Russ
  15. Hello mate, hope you are well. A bit harsh ........I know what you mean, but if contemporary releases are played on the Rare Soul Scene I'm all for it personally, its just the DJ's tend to thrash anything available to death, instead of being sensible about exposure & how these things are fitted into thier sets. All the best Russ
  16. Ian, the original vinyl only ethos only concerns original vinyl releases, the idea IMO is that tunes are played from the original format, whether that be vinyl, CD, MP3 or whatever & NOT only playing a tune if it was released on vinyl. The major problem is, that most NS venues dont even have a CD player, let alone the means to play MP3's, promoters need to get with it with regards to equipment & DJ's need to be aware of what is out there on different formats. Best Russ
  17. If we decide to go ahead, it would be lovely to see you anyway Karen if you could make it . A venue needs its fair share of nutters . Hope you are well Best Russ
  18. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply Paul & I think you broach some interesting points. There are some obvious things that the boxes need to be ticked on for any soul event - however after reading this thread & years of looking, listening & attending events, as well as my experience as a promoter & some time DJ, there are definitly things promoters are missing down south at the moment & particularly our little area. I think there are locals who very rarely venture out these days, not even to local events & there are definitley travellers, within 60 to 90 minuits who used to travel to this area frequently, but no longer do so for various reasons, these people alone, if enticed back could fill a reasonable sized venue............there is no guaranteed answer to successful promoting, but IF we decide to go ahead & do something it will be organised & promoted to the highest level with peoples enjoyment put first & with a special twist & a music policy to die for with fantastic under exposed DJ's who will work that floor till your ears n feet bleed. I dont want to go into detail for obvious reasons, but lets just say I think people could be suprised at just what we have on our doorstep, but at present is not being utilised....................there is a fantastic wealth of Soul Music history down south, going back to the golden era, a lot either dont remember for what ever reason or are relatively new to the game.........but with a little luck & a lot of hard work I think a good promoter could end up with a 'lock out'......... This thread alone has generated a fantastic response thru PM's & emails from a lot of the moovers n groovers who used to make the events in the area special, they wanna venue for soul to call thier own again & will turn out for the right event, the rest will follow.......... Its all very exciting & the potential is there for a fantastic event that will attract a great crowd who will make the event thier own & drive it forward. Its the people who will make the event & ultimately they will drive the music policy etc.......I WANT the right people back in a venue near you, not interested in the flakes, just passionate soul lovers who kknow how to have a good time.........there out there, they just need a home...& I think we can choose to be picky, you only want the 'In Crowd' after all . Thanks for posting Paul See ya soon Best Russ
  19. A lot of truth in that my friend, one thing for sure, it wont be 1976 .......it would be lovely to see you, if we decide to go ahead with anything, I reckon Fergie should get down too, as a one time resident of Southampton......I will also refuse to admit anyone who has the 'smell of death' about them  .........Dave, I still roar with laughter when ever I think about that.....happy days indeed & the start of a firm friendship....& the beat goes on !!! Best Russ
  20. Thanks for the Birthday wishes Paul, look forward to hearing your comments..... Hope to see you soon Love to Marie Best Russ
  21. Must have missed this Dave, thank you for your support my friend..... See ya soon Russ
  22. A great post again Dave & nowt wrong with any of the 7ts things you have mentioned above, I think there is a place for some good 7ts dancers & anthems, as well as some well chosen contemporary releases too, if they have the X factor & are slipped in by intelligent DJ's who can fit these things sensibly in to a set, having read the floor & room.......which is something Rich & I are in agreement with, the key as Rich says is the DJ's........ A big tune at Abshott & the Newbury Nighters was this...........fitted in well with the 6ts & other Modern tunes being played at the time, but was quite inovative back then, I have deliberately chosen a tune that may now seem obvious to most, but its more to give you an idea of what others/I was playing back then in my sets with the Northern/Rare Soul & everything else..........I have always loved the Modern side of things as well as the 6ts stuff & at the time was being heavily influenced by Keith & Maxine, Lloyd Attrill & I was attending events that were playing everything in one room, I must add I was also attending Soul Essence amongst other events & some huge Northern Room plays started getting attention thier first....... I'm just a SOUL whore & whilst I love my traditional NS i hanker for the days were we just danced to good soul music in one room regardless of year of release, so long as it had the X factor everyone just got on with it.......as Gavin Page would say 'Some ya dance from side to side to, some ya dance up & down to' . Best Russ
  23. I think you just put up on the thread what a lot of folk were thinking anyway, I know that I have looked for a vinyl release, but to be truthful I didnt know what mix I was after, thank you for posting up about this. Best Russ
