Is This Now The Rarest /dearest 100 Club Anniversary Single ?
Russ Vickers replied to Nige Brown's topic in Look At Your Box
What some dont realise, is that all of the Anniversary 45's have been massive at the 100 Club for some time before being released. Many are still well under the radar of most. Im always quite bemused, altho pleased, when all of a sudden years later they become in vogue with a wider audience...when they can be there, listening & dancin to the next potential anniversary single, or even have been there when these gems were first played, they all have a place in my heart, as most hold precious memories of that special under ground soul bunker the 100 Club, still THE Allnighter after all these years....dont wait for the anniversary, support the worlds no1 Allnighter now, were future anniversary singles can be appreciated when first played & there aint nothing like knowing you were there when it was first dropped..... Sadly no longer a 'regular' due to my current address - however, I will be back & it will always be number one in my heart. Russ -
Tainted Love Instrumental! Where Did This Come From?
Russ Vickers replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
As instrumentals ago its ok, Im actually shocked there wasnt ab instro of this played at WC anyway. Russ -
Im not sure this is as mega rare as some would have you believe to be honest, yes its a hard record & it aint gonna fall in your lap, but it was about a bit in the past. It strikes me that the original & current posts are hyping it up - 700 UKP plus, nah, isnt worth that IMHO. In fact I remember people passing the odd copy over cos they didnt like it, a little too choppy n messy even for Xover was the opinion....was played at both Abshott/Newbury Allnighter n soul nights & Albrighton if memory serves me correctly & was 'known' prior to that. No - travelled far n wide n never gave it much thought. However, down out neck of the woods Portsmouth/Southampton area, you have to be careful when promoting, cos some from either area will not go to t'other, even older folk who should know better, its the old football rivalry...TBH it has never bothered me, not being born n bred in the area, it is a consideration when promoting tho. There quite good boots too !!! Russ -
Of cause it is, the only issue is playing things from the original format, whether that was vinyl, CD, Mp3...I think the vinyl thing is a red herring, its about original format, cos of our scene that means on the whole vinyl 45's....but not exclusively, its really about not playing bootlegs or reissues, what ever the format....if something is LP only, play the LP, if it is CD only, play the CD, if it is download only, play the download....as I say OVO only is a complete red herring, it should be original format only OFO. Hi everyone, does anyone one remember a tune played by Shay Richardson at the Newbury Allnighters I used to promote, I think it was by 'Mr T' (not the Mr T obviously), a Modern tune ish....I cant really remember anything about it, other than on the night it was first played it caused a bit of a stir with folk talking about it & I remember thinking wow....any help would be appreciated. Also if anyone has any tapes from the Uptown Down South Nighters or Soul Nights at either Abshott or Newbury I would be happy to pay for them put onto CD.....was too busy doin the promoter thing to worry about that kinda thing at the time.... Many thanks all Best Russ

WOW....that is something very special indeed, If Im home from the desert, Im flying to Brooklyn to see this in the flesh absolutely awesome...saw the clips before, but that has just reminded me how fantastic it was, a UK promoter should book these NOW....superb stuff, the LA Cindy sides being 2 of my favourite uptempo soul tracks ever....so much so, that when my son was born I sang 'Man O Man' to him when he was only a few minuits old..... Artist: Chance & Tony A Side: Pretty Baby Price: £595.00 This was deffo not a Ginger discovery, it was discovered by Shifty & played at the 100 Club for a while, I think covered up as the Silouhettes, ironically, what ever it was coverd up as, it was my cover up name lol, as Al played it down the phone when it landed on his doorstep....my copy was Shiftys play copy....hope this clarifies...not taking anything away from Ginger continuing to play this belter BTW. Thank you & I will choose my words more carefully in the future, Im afraid I still get very passionate about certain subjects & my enthusiasm I concede, may on occasion, be misenterpreted, so I apologise. Russ

I was NOT slagging anyone off....I repeat, if any one was offended by my post, please PM me & CC Mike in also, I will apologise profusely, but again I repeat I was not slagging anyone off.....waddaya want me to do ?. Im just suprised that after all the outrageous stuff that gets said on SS, this particular comment was singled out & wrongly identified as 'slagging' people off, a lot of the people on here are my friends, why would I do that ?. I would apologise to you personally Mike, but that would be saying that I intentionally meant to offend & that is not what I did....if you choose to take it that way, then Im sorry, but that was not the intention at all....now I have had my pants pulled down & had my arse smacked in public, is there anything else you would like me to do with regards to this ????. Russ Russ

Well TBH Paul, you've just about summed it up, thats me one step nearer to calling it a day, something I never ever thought I would do....this scene is becoming a joke & to be honest, its getting more embarrassing by the day with the exception of a very few venues.

Firstly Mike, I can categoritically state I was not slagging anyone off & I feel offended that you off all people would choose to say that I was, its a public forum, I'm entitled to my opinion as is everyone else on here. If you chose to read it that way, then I'm sorry, but you are wrong, I made the post & I know what I meant. If anyone was offended in anyway by my opinion on this subject PM me & I will not only PM you a personal apology, but I will also print a public apology also, if required. 'Another dodgy collective judgement' - Mike we're on SS here, there probably isnt an hour goes by without something of a similar nature happening, but I'm singled out for public humiliation on this particular thread...how strange. Thank you for going to the trouble of printing the contributors on this thread, but it really wasnt neccessary, Im quite capable of reading who's posted thank you, incidently, many I know personally & could class as friends, so Im sure most would not feel offended in any way. I do get the message tho & in future I will be careful about expressing my opinion in case I offend anyone, would the other members pse take note of this also, other wise if this is to become the norm Mike is gonna be pretty busy. Best Russ

BTW Im into Northern Soul, within the context of a progressive underground soul scene, of which this genre is a tiny part, along with lots of other things, Im commenting on todays scene, not a scene from 20 plus years ago, I dont have to have the permission of folk that appear to think that they can comment irrationally on anything they personally dont like just because they went to WC, before I make my mind up whether I can like a record or not.....i repeat, its happened & is happening, we dont care what others might think TBH, most of you havnt got a clue when speaking about this kinda thing, because the only thing you can compare it with is 7ts WC or a classic oldies night, the comparison is ridiculous.... Pete, just to clarify, this is not aimed at you personally & your right about liking/disliking stuff, I dont like everything played, including some of the things talked about in this thread, but there is usually something for most & I try to be tolerant of the things that arnt my personal cuppa. Best Russ

No one is disputing Pauls reputation, in fact I was very careful to be extremely respectful, but if you are talking about hearing records in a club, how can anyone comment on them if you havnt heard them in that environment....your just totally over reacting to what actually is a simple fact, the records are being played regardless of what some people may like or dislike....i have emense respect for you aswell Pete, but I will not be bamboozled by ill informed people who are commenting out of context on records that they have never heard over a big sound system in an atmospheric club. I respect your personal opinion on whether you like or dislike a record or a particular genre....but irrespective, its happening, folk on SS can do n say what they like, but fortunatly in the real soul world its been played for years n most appear to enjoy the diversity within a mixed set of other things, as long as the DJ's are sensible & have a bit of taste, again all IMO.
