  1. No worries Adam....we're passionate about this stuff, you more than most...thanks for posting the Randolph Walker. Hope to see ya soon buddy, keep at it... Russ
  2. Im still in Baghdad, but have a few things at home that might fit the bill...hopefully I'll be putting a mix together when Im next in the UK, so will include some lesser/unknown things too.... Best Russ
  3. Well I spose if you've worked hard to find em you may not wanna let everyone into the secret too soon...any copies turn up would love to have a crack at one pse. Russ
  4. Ok, here's my contribution - not totally unknown I know, but extremely limited plays thus far & deserves a far higher exposure, I' lovin it & have had this a couple of years now maybe & play it at every opportunity....
  5. BTW Thanks to everyone who has posted so far, United Sounds is awesome, stupid question, but anyone with a copy, pse wing it my way. Russ
  6. I'm genuinely sorry if people dont think this is a worthy topic for a thread, but I thought it would be an interesting discussion at least...I was just trying to keep things upbeat & interesting/ I would add that one prominent DJ has already PM'd me two very good tunes that were unknown to me, so just for that alone it has been worth while. Anyhoo...lets let it run & see where it goes, keep it positive... Russ
  7. Me too, Andy Rix particularly is sorely missed IMHO. Best Russ
  8. Oh & the Alldayer we went to in London years ago, that Kev Moore ran in Brixton (?) with pretty much the whole of the South Coast massive in convoy, hammering down the motorway together...tunes blastin & the banter flowing...Mr Abbott, Csordas, Molly, Jason & a host of others on fine form....the Detroit Pirates ah arrrggghhhh !!!....was part of what we now refer to as 'the lost weekend'....you really had to be there, but sticks in my mind as a wonderful mental day with a heap o soul & some fine friends who are all fantastic, but in serious need of help lol . Best Russ
  9. Sam Dees n Jeff Perry live performances at my Uptown Down South promotions in Newbury - will never forget those nights. The Nighter down the 100 Club when Ady first dropped the first batch of unissued RCA/Pied Piper material - unbelievable atmosphere. Pretty much every nighter I did in the 7ts was awesome in my memory !!!. The first time Ady asked me to DJ at the 100 Club....an absolute honour & a sublime experience, made all that much better by the fantastic nutters in attendance who always make spinning at the 100 Club so uniquie.... Russ
  10. New Discoveries 6ts/7ts Northern & Rare Soul: Ok, we have plenty of talk about new discoveries, so what about a discussion on recent discoveries or the lack of them...shall we say over the last 2 years ?. Have all the good 6ts/7ts dried up, or are there still plenty out there, & just needs someone to be in a position to expose them properly. 'All the good 6ts tunes have been discovered' -This was the main driving force behind Stafford & the DJ team that went about proving that statement wrong....we all look back on Stafford as an iconic venue, breaking masses of new tunes & breaking the mould, but there really was an air that the 'good' records had been already discovered, prior to the Top of the World & also the legenday 100 Club Nighters - So c'mon Soul Sourcers, tell us about ya new discoveries or new discoveries that are being played at your fave venue or by your fave DJ....there are no restrictions on rariety, just good soulful dance records that fit the Northern/Rare Soul criteria.... & play nice pse people Russ
  11. Right fellas, we're all mates in the real world, so can we get back on topic pse, any other sh*t, start another thread or take it to PM's...crikey, I sound like a mod.....seriously, some good points on here so far, so dont wanna detract from the essence... Russ
  12. I agree - basic skills a must IMHO, records alone, do not a DJ make, there has to be the whole package. When I was DJing on a weekly basis, it was so much easier, I rarely have the opportunity these days & find it so much more difficult to play out tunes that may not be familiar & to be honest, reading the room is a skill & the more you DJ the better you should be. Best Russ
  13. I agree to some extent Mark, but it depends whether the DJ's from either the past or the present are gonna add something to the mix or not, RS doin the nostalgia events does nothing for me at all, RS doin a contemporary Allnighter set, full on with his own new cover ups, one offs, exclusives, plus quality interesting reactivations would be immense. Doesnt matter if the DJ is old skool or new skool, if they aint adding something interesting, whether it be forgotten oldies or 6ts/7ts etc newies, to the mix then its irelevant....I personally dont care how long anyone has been on the scene, its what theyre playing & in what order that matters to me.... Best Russ
  14. I Im booking my flight from Baghdad if that happens..... Russ
  15. I do think that RS could potentially bring something to the party. At the end of the day, it will depend upon IF he does decide to join the party again & how he goes about doin it...I think there are assumptions being made about where he will or wont DJ too, thats up to the promoters to ask him & for RS to agree. Cant see RS doin any little venues...maybe RS will promote his own Nighter again ? Best Russ
  16. I kinda agree with you Phil, but it isnt neccessarily just about 6ts, if you throw some good 7ts & dare I say other decades in too, plus intelligent reactivations n rareities, with the unquestionable taste of these guys we could be in for a treat - plus these guys are the 'taste makers', so who knows what else will get thrown into the mix, s'long as its Rare Soul with the X Factor, aimed at the Allnighter dance floor then Im excited....whilst I dont think either of these guys needs 'competiton' to bring out thier best, it wont harm to have RS back in the fold of the contemporary Nighter scene, plus It might encourage those that are a little nostalgic shall we say, to test the water at more diverse events boosting the numbers.... Hope you are well mate Best Russ
  17. F*ck me, now that has inspired me....I agree with everything you say my friend & will be watching & waiting in anticipation, worth starting this thread for alone....RS for me at the Casino 78 onwards was inspirational....great before that, but that period he was king.... Your enthusiasm is to be commended & I for one have a big fat smile on my face... Russ
  18. He did 2 Nighters in the 9ts & did blinding sets, Butch on the same night & both shall we say had a sense of occasion, not sure if one was an anniversary, I didnt think it was, but could be wrong...Ady should deffo get him down again....the Scotland V's England Nighters were brilliant too.... Russ
  19. Whilst I have the utmost respect for RS, its difficult to comment on how he would be received at an Allnighter in this day & age. I may be wrong, but Richard hasnt DJ'd at a contemporary Allnighter since the Ritz & the 100 Club back in the 9ts. I dont count the weekenders or infrequent oldies only Nighters, as it would hardly stretch the guy. Whilst I do not doubt RS still has a lot of things that would be of interest to the regular Nighter crowd, I would love to see him at the 100 Club, Lifeline or Radcliffe maybe dropping exclusives & rareities, amongst other things....not sure this will ever happen, so hypothetical really. Best Russ
  20. I think it very much depends upon the Allnighter, but I know of 2 who generally use the guests in the first/early slots. I know Ady at the 100 Club generally will give 2 slots, one earlier one later, always good slots tho. Just to reiterate aswell, a DJ thats works well at a Nighter, might not be as well received at a Soul Night or other event & vice versa, I would deffo say at the very least that they would be playing slightly different types of set.....hence my initial question. Best Russ
  21. No it isnt Marc, I specifically said ALLNIGHTERS, not soul nights, Alldayers, Sunday Sessions, Weekenders or ya best mates front room.....ALLNIGHTERS. There are some spanking DJ's who are woefully neglected when it comes to ALLNIGHTERS IMHO. Best Russ
  22. Marco Santucci too (spelling). Russ
  23. The point is to add your own suggestions, just maybe promoters out there might see someone that takes thier fancy . Russ
  24. Dean Anderson Kitch Gilly Carl Fortnum Des Parker Saus (retired I would think ?) Tony Smith (1) Dave Abbott Steve G Tim Smithers Irish Greg Joel Maslin Trouble Steve Phylis (spelling) Fred Kroll Cliff Camfield Russ Vickers ( ) & a personal fave the mighty Karl Heard should deffo do a 'come back' tour. There are deffo others, so who do you want to see at an ALLNIGHTER bangin em out more than they are now ?. Best Russ
