Never realised just how similar these 2 discs are, both brilliant BTW, but the rareity of Soul Incorporated does add a little mystique, even if only by the fact you rarely get to hear it out....one of those discs to travel for IMHO. Russ

Unless yopu've been living in a cave for the last 17 years or more then everyone should know this by now, but just in case...if this had been played at any of the Golden Era Nighters it would now be the top 500 Classic that it deserves to be...

Right this isnt a 'bashing' BTW, you are entitled to your opinion.....this is just my opinion, absolute superlative Northern Soul. How the heck did Crossover come into this, its a full on Northern Soul nuclear missile....if I had the dosh I would buy this immediatly, its sheer class, another Rob Marriot stonker !!!. I think, if Kev Roberts & Richard Searling (for arguments sake), put on a bi monthly Allnighter, along the lines of which Ian D, has already mentioned, in a traditional, but medium sized venue, which was easily accessable logistically & encouraged a, shall we say, open music policy, it would give RS a platform to return to the mainstream Nighter scene as a DJ & with other DJ's like Butch, Andy Dyson, Ady Croasdell, Mick H, Keith Money, Soul Sam, Carl Fortnum (there is a great choice, not only the ones mentioned), & a couple of the young up n coming bangers, plus guests it would be monstrous. These guys have a trusted following as promoters, but it would need a meeting of the current top promoters to sort out clashes & a way ahead...such as the meeting that allegedly took place in the 8ts between promoters to work together for the good of the scene & so everyone can get a slice of the action..... Im not saying the current Allnighters arnt great already, but there are oldies n newies crowds, even tho some of the Nighters play a mixture of both already, the perception by both camps is they avoid some for whatever reason, I think the partnership above, could bring both camps of soulies together under one roof & on one dancefloor if thought out & done properly...if everyone was headed to one venue every two months (wouldnt it be great if it could go monthly :-))....certainly some current promotions would fall by the wayside, but if this improved the NS scene in general would it not be a good thing ????. I had my Allnighter bag stolen with nearly all of my original patches on, all received by me on the nights in question, unfortunately some scum bag (pardon the pun) nicked it in the late 7ts early 8ts, I replaced most of them with originals from ebay & other sources years ago, before the prices inflated, theyre nice to have, but not the same as the ones I received personally on said nights, theyre tucked away nicely with other memorabilia, as I could never wear them out these days....... I was also one of those extremly embarrassing younsters, with patches down the side of my Spencer Soul Bags OMG I thought I was so cool too.....there, Ive said it ...Im afraid I was far to young for the 3rd Anniversay David, so not much help Im afraid, but good luck my friend. How do you discover that rubbing dried white bread crumbs on a record labels can clean it lol....its not like you can discover that by accident is it ....its not 1st April is it . Best Russ

Not sure if this has been covered before, so if it has I apologise. I was wondering if there is a way of 'cleaning' grubby record labels, Im not talking pen or marker here, just generally dirty or grubby labels - someone once told me that an eraser (rubber) would sometimes clean paper labels up nicely, is this true & are there any other tips for cleaning labels up pse. I think over the years I have experienced most of the nightmares related so far, with the exception of Ian of course, I think that must be a unique DJ experience. The one thing that I always remember tho, as a DJ/Promoter, was at one of the 'Uptown Down South' Soul Nights at Abshott , I had a very eclectic music policy, playing everything from Northern thru to new releases & everything in between. When I first started Abshott I was nervous about the reaction of the club dance floor to the music policy, as back then it was quite unusual, but it all seemed to work very well, altho I always worried....but the night that I knew we had cracked it, was when we had a full house & full dance floor, never missing a beat, regardless of decade or genre - I was waiting to get my drink at a very busy bar between records & a guy one side of me says 'Too much Modern Russ, sort it out' - the guy to the other side of me simultaneously was saying 'Too much Northern Russ - sort it out'.....thats when I knew I had got it right !!!. I agree with everything you have said Phil, but I also know what Bearsy means also, theres a middle ground between playing the clown & total disinterest...Im quite often accused of showing a bit of passion behind the decks & have never given it any thought until now, Im now wondering whether folk are thinking whats that tw*t up to... !!!. Im not sure Terry was slagging off the Kings Hall TBH, I may be wrong but he was saying Kev has got things right as a promoter, unless there is an element of sarcasm in there, I think he was just stating a fact....IMHO from a promotional point of view KR has got it right & there is now the alternative room too, so I will be checking it out some time soon, as I havnt been since the Modern Room closed Im ashamed to say.......
