  1. Strictly is fantastic to the right sound, not so much if it isnt, expression to the music rythmically is as good if done well - are we now talking ONSDO (Original Northern Soul Dancing Only ). Russ
  2. The one I find a little frustrating is when folk come back with make me an offer for it, when its obviously not a tune that would normally be up for offers.......altho its the sellers perogative to do what ever they want within reason of course. Best Russ
  3. Do you have a clip of someone doin this move ?....for a moment I thought you were talking about the funky Hip Drop that a few have incorporated into the more traditional moves, looks a little disjointed at first but fits the Funkier beats hitting the floors...I like it personally, love traditional NS dancing, but many of the new discoveries of the last 20 years are not traditional NS Dancers, so the moves change..... Best Russ
  4. I agree with you to some extent, especially about the Barbs thing, but I think 78 was when things started to improve musically again....I might be wrong (?), but wasnt 78 when RS dropped Delites, Vickie Baines, Cecil Washington, Agents....amongst others ?, could be a year out....Yate was great, never really went to Fleet....you also have to remember I was only 16 & had about a year of Nighters behind me, slightly less, so my abilty to draw comparisons is extremely limited, I just wanted to dance & it was only with hindsight that I realised how crap some things were, altho totally without realising it I always erred towards what I later realised was the classier sounds.... Best Russ
  5. In my opinion 78 was when it started to turn around again, I only went from 77 to 80, but from not only my own, but listening to others experiences 78 was when RS started to come into his own proper like & the Casino reigned supreme in these years.....certainly my memories from this time period are class ! Best Russ
  6. Awesome record...... Russ
  7. How much was the ET Whire BTW ? rUSS
  8. That ET White is phenominal & well worth the possible cancellation of a wedding IMHO ....John Browne played this out recently in B'mouth & it took the roof off the sucka.....it will be getting some needle time at NQ Live Nighter pretty soon too.... Best Russ
  9. I dont think you could get Mr Cato going, far to cool for that..... . Best Russ
  10. Wanted - Originals - Young Train/Young Ideas - Motown Pse PM with price & condition. Best Russ
  11. Maybe the worlds biggest Top 500. Russ
  12. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/articles/articles/freebasing/frontpage-news-items-and-articles-r2428 Hi Kev, might do well here.... Best Russ
  13. I've heard some fantastical excuses as to why folk dropped off the scene, this however has got to be up there with the kids n mortgage nugget..... Best Russ
  14. I love it all....Beat Ballads are brilliant, but need to be played sensibly within a night/set....IMO BB lend themselves more to small intimate dark clubs, were their atmospheric brilliance can raise the general atmosphere of a venue/dance floor if dropped strategically.... I agree with Nev on the funk thing too....many people misunderstand the genre & again, when dropped in amongst everything else can set a room on fire....Im a soul fan first & foremost, altho I prefer dancers in a club environment & I enjoy most things that get played out when programmed sensibly within a set.... Best Russ
  15. I agree with you entirely Nev & the 'Stepper' thing wasnt meant as a criticism in any way at all, brilliant record BTW mate. Russ
  16. The 'Birdcage' in Portsmouth was the local Mod Club in the area, lots of live bands including visiting US acts & All Night sessions too. See the back of the Jimmy James LP 'The New Religeon' for a great story about coming to play the 'Birdcage' in Pompey... More about the infamous 'Birdcage' https://michaelcooper.org.uk/C/birdcage.htm Best Russ
  17. A 'Stepper' as opposed to a Beat Ballad' I would have thought. Russ
  18. I have one child - t'other one I traded for a M - copy of Al Williams & a WC 6th Anni patch..... Russ
  19. Firstly you thank the previous DJ, then you follow with something reasonably appropriate to the venue oldies/newies/Northern/Modern & something not a million miles away from the last record played, assuming you were left the floor. Best Russ
