  1. Anyway...sorry about that, back on topic then.........
  2. Arrrr....I've just realised, when I said 'good for you' I didnt mean 'you' personally....I meant 'good for you', meaning like being run over by a car isnt good for you, generally not YOU....anyone lol.... Russ Russ
  3. Well, it wasnt & I wrote it.... & I dont like drinking at Nighters either. Russ
  4. Er NO, I didnt...It was a generalisation, not aimed directly at you personally, but in answer to your comment, I deliberatle wrote 'NOT NECCESSARILY AIMED AT YOU', so as you would know the comment was not personal. I'm not sure I could have been any clearer ? Best Russ
  5. Just to be perfectly clear about this, I didnt accuse you of anything Pete & I do not advocate the abuse of alcohol or drugs. And may I add that youre a fine one to comment on people shouting thier mouth off - pot kettle n all that lol....any way we havnt had a SS spat for quite a while, so I spose we were due one haha... hope your well mate... Best Russ
  6. What about 50+ adults who go out & get absolutely bolloxed on alcohol.....spose thats perfectly alright & good for you ?...not saying that its a good thing, but its hypocritical for some (not you neccessarily Pete) to come the 'Holier Than Thou' attitude towards gear then go out regularly & get fall over p*ssed...just sayin like... Russ
  7. Thats all well & good if the DJ knows what they are doing, many dont & can make matters with regards to sound far worst in fact....I put records on occasionally, hopefully in the right order so that people will appreciate them, I rely very heavily, if Im honest on the equipment being set up properly in the first place, as Im not that confident mucking about with the levels myself, however I want to become a better DJ with regards to these things, hence my initial question.... Just trying to be honest.... Best Russ
  8. I spose you also have to assume the levels have all been set correctly in the first place when using equipment you havnt set up personally lol Russ
  9. My understanding is, albeit very basic understanding, is to set the gain initially for each channel, set fader to 0, then set gain to just peak at the yellow, with master volume at max. Use gain for each channel if required to get the best quality sound from discs that may not be as good quality recording as they might ?..... Thank you for explaining this....I was pretty much on the right track, but with the quality of some soul 45's, you really do need to master the 'gain' properly (without messing up everything else). I'm endeavouring to improve the set up of equipment, when not using a sound engineer & to improve the quality of sound whilst DJing.... Best Russ
  10. That is exactly as I thought Paul. Thank you Russ
  11. I have a question. Whilst I appreciate that if the sound engineer (laughs !), has set up the equipment correctly, you shouldnt really go buggering around with the levels etc....however, if you have a lo fi (volume) 45, am I correct in saying that you could up the gain slightly on that particular channel to get better volume on the input (not out put). Obviously taking a mental note of where the gain was to re set on completion of said 45 ?. Thanks Russ
  12. I love this & dropped in the right place at the RIGHT Nighter....its a MONSTER play.....(dons tin hat & takes cover lol ).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en3jc7RS8r4 Russ
  13. The O'Jays is a great version, but it has to be the Whatnauts & Linda Jones for me, it slays me every single time & when LJ vocal first kicks in...sh*t the bed, OMG that woman is a goddess....first heard Jim Eddleston play this at the 100 Club in the late 8ts ?.....knocked me bandy, still a fave & would grace any nighter any where IMHO & still probably less than £20. Turn it up LOUD....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB3hyPUTiXQ Best Russ
  14. Good call mate, will probably end up doin that TBH Thanks for the reply Russ
  15. Both Nighters are brilliant, but slightly different....lots go n enjoy both without having to feel they need to make a choice, I really don't see the 100 Club as being a mid tempo venue at all, on the whole its about the same variety as any where else...what I would say tho, is there are records played at both venues that are unique to them.... Best Russ
  16. It really f*ckin gets my goat when people slag of certain records or tempos. Yes, we all have an opinion & I really do respect that, altho I may not agree with you, but to write off records people have taken the trouble to include in thier sets & post here, with disrespectful comments is bad form IMHO, to say some of them dont fill dance floors or arnt appreciated is complete bollox, in a lot of cases they do & are. I've been travelling all over the country for many, many years, I travel north & south & in between, I enjoy all kinds of danceable soul music & many different genres & tempos from several different decades.....there is only two types of soul music...good n bad !.....on the whole the places I visit tend to play the mixture I enjoy & mix tempos & genres, to say the North predominantly plays up tempo NS & the South plays predominantly mid tempo is a falacy.... I'm quite suprised that people actually believe this....I really dont want to fall out with people over this, some of you I count as friends & really do respect you in general, but I know cos I attend these events.... If you personally dont like a record, thats absolutely fine, but to write it off completely as a 'play' record, just cos you dont like it personally isnt fair..... Now f*ckin play nice please.... Best Russ
  17. Mmmmm couldn't see them in covers 33.... Russ
  18. Thanks Chalks, appreciate that mate... Best Russ
  19. Hi anyone out there got an 8 inch record sleeve that I could have or buy please, cardboard preferably, but paper good too... PM me Kind regards Russ
  20. Slightly off topic I know, but what is the other version Steve ?...didn't the Norvells come out on 2 labels as well ?. Best Russ
  21. I would really like to think, that in some small way, my Uptown Down South Soul Nights & Allnighters made a small difference, along with such fantastic venues as Albrighton, we had very similar music policies, in that everything was acceptable on one dancefloor in the same room & usually within the same set, no one was on a crusade, in fact we were very naïve, but for what ever reason, right time, right place maybe, it worked. Best Russ
  22. I must say I have a romantic notion that we aint seen the last of NS or whatever we're gonna call it, as a proper scene...I have a feeling in my water ....if it follows the script we'll be back to an underground scene at some point, the nostalgia scene will implode, they'll all bugger off again & we can just do what we have always done, dance to great soulful music all night, I hear all the comments on here about no new NS records etc, its true to some extent, however we've heard it all before many, many years ago & the aftermath of the Casino etc, bought about one of the most progressive & inventive periods the scene has ever known....I'm counting on it, but in the mean time there's enough going on to keep me entertained with the kinda soul I like... Russ
  23. I have to say that I totally disagree with the comments about the 100 Club, its still one of the best Nighters in the country.... I don't get there as often as I would like these days due to working abroad, but I love that place with a passion. Best Russ
