  1. Phil started a thread recently, some thing like where have all the big lads gone, meaning the classic rareities, well IMHO most mentioned on this thread so far could be placed in this category, its not just about the classics, altho some of these I think of as classics now, as good as many played in the golden era & better in some cases. Best Russ
  2. At least 2001 was being played at the 100 Club, but these things do take time these days...brilliant record too... Best Russ
  3. Well here's ten just of the top of my head....will post more later, but here's some bangers to be going on with... Parliaments - Rainy Day Ishola Muhammed - Open Up Your Heart United Sounds - Its All Over (Baby) Willie Dale - Let Your Light Shine Tiaras - Foolish Girl/Suprise Precisions - My Sense Of Direction (Is Blown) Hopkins Brothers - Shake Sheri Sir Guy - Nobody Beats My Love Tommy & The Derbys - Dont Play The Role Kae Wiiliams - Our Love Is Dying
  4. Once I add a record to my collection it has no monetary value to me - Im not buying for investment purposes or to willy wave on the odd occasion that I get to DJ now, Im buying records that I love & hope I will never have to sell..... Russ
  5. Ha, me too...bought for £40 in the late 8ts, early 9ts.....cannot imagine why I sold this now doh !!!....good luck with the search. Russ
  6. I know what Phil means, but as mentioned earlier there are soooo many more records now that are being chased, almost every decade has thrown up its 'must have' rareities....I think on the whole the records that Phil means are already in collections & are 'keepers'....every now & again one will pop up, but will go for mega bucks, which puts me off personally, especially as I could buy a current or recent 'biggie' for less money & if you think in this way, these are the big lads of the future...... Interesting thread Phil Best Russ
  7. & me....'kin brilliant record in every way, you just had to be there.....woooooooosssshhhhhhy !!!....'Shootin thru' !!! Best Russ
  8. They'll be thousands apply, baggy pants n vests, all with their WC Tea Pot...hope this isnt the case, but what are the chances that this time they'll get it spot on...get Coolio spinning a Soul-Funktion set, most of em would soil them selves, cos if it isnt the NS by numbers or learned from Youtube they cant dance to it....witnessed 2 very good young dancers a few months back, any four to the floor top 500, not bad at first glance, but any time anything was played that was not typical they sat down as they didnt have a clue how to dance to them.....no self expression what so ever... Russ
  9. What n you reckon there wont be any dancers apply ha ! Russ
  10. Gave my multi coloured issue away years ago to a friend...& no I dont regret it, nice record but still only worth £20 really... Russ
  11. Hi Krissii Your probably right & I'm really pleased that for once somebody has posted the opposing opinions, thank you for that. What I would say tho is this, the 'Northern Soul' that you refer to in your post, is generally the NS of a bygone time, a small time capsual that folk hold dear & enjoy listening to the popular records of that time & sometimes dressing in that same manner. The Northern Soul Scene that I was & still am a part of, is as far away from that as you could possibly get, the Northern/Rare Soul scene that I hold dear to my heart, is still underground (ish), still elitist, still based on discovering, dancing & collecting new exciting danceable soul music, mixed with interesting oldies, rareities & forgotten gems, we still feel the excitment of travelling half way across the country & the world in some cases to hear passionate DJ's play incredible spine tingling soul music, where the dancers & collectors wait in anticipation for innivative DJ's to blow your head off & take the roof off the dancefloor.....its still out there, the venues are smaller, you have to dig that much more to find em, it takes a lot of effort to be part of that sometimes, but its worth it.. I would also add Krissii, that it was the scene that I am part of that kept this music alive when most others were off on a sabatical, but history has been re written time & time again, by people who are self promoting & have only financial interests, the masses lap it up because they see these people as icons in some cases to be followed blindly....the truth is out though & eventually the cream will always rise to the top... Best Russ
  12. Ay up Steve, its not something that will effect me personally anyway, but give it time buddy... Best Russ
  13. The 'Faith' was sold years ago - the 'Northern Soul' scene has been sold out & being wrung out for its last few bob & has been for well over a decade & more & it actually started back in the day. Any self respecting real fan is long gone & takes this pastiche, masquerading as NS with a huge pinch of salt.... Do we care ?....nah, the real scene is still out there for those that want it, let the fakers, tourists & those that have raped n piledged it for everything its got crack on....when its on its knees financially with everything sucked out of it, they'll be gone again.... We will still be here tho, diggin, collecting, dancing & listening to fresh, exciting, soulful, dance music in clubs that take a little effort to find, with punters, DJ's n promoters who have some self respect & a love for SOUL MUSIC in its many forms... Russ
  14. It was a pop up Casino thing I think. Russ
  15. I was a regular at Winsford & DJ'd in the Modern Room on several occasions. That was when Pete was at the helm BTW. Russ
  16. Out of interest, how much for a M- copy anyone ?. Best Russ
  17. Unless playing predominantly a certain type of oldie, I consider a big room to be 300 - 500 these days, I know that isnt big by the standards of times gone by, but by todays standards, if you could fill a one room Nighter playing a diverse mixture of soulful dance music, then I think you would of had a major result...not sure it can be done, but I would tip my hat to anyone that tried. Best Russ
  18. I agree whole heartedly, but can we also NOT call what is played at this event 'Across the Board'. A one room All Nighter playing vintage soulful dance music from across the decades with the emphasis on the 6ts & 7ts, but not excluding any decade or genre that has the X Factor, with an odd appropriate new release & oh yea, a mix of oldies & Newies. I think this was the music policy of virtually every successful Allnighter there has ever been... Why others now dont get this is totally beyond me... Russ
  19. No I thought better of it for once Steve.....just couldn't be bothered with the flack I would receive from some quarters...everyone knows the truth anyway & wouldn't be at all surprised if the post was a troll anyway....its all attention seeking. Russ
