  1. The version on the CD is the original version altho it mentions the other take. This has not appeared on any CD. Russ
  2. Just wanted to let you all know that JM has for sale copies of Bernard Smith - Gotta Be Reason @ £25. This is an unissued version that has an extra 20-30 seconds or so (which is worth hearing actually). These have been pressed up legitmatly in VA, USA by a friend of mine. The cut has been lifted from the original session tapes. I received my copy today & its belting with the added bonus of the previously unavailable instrumental version on the flip, whilst not a lover of instrumentals this stands up pretty well in its own right. I spoke with the guy responsible for the press earlier today & its definitley limited to 250 copies with no chance of a repress. I beleive that JM has 25 & no other UK dealers have this. Nice labels & great sound quality too. Russ
  3. Out of interest has any one ever seen a stocker of this ???. Russ
  4. We have all seen & heard about the record sales lists from years ago & gasped in horror & astonishment at the £2 record that is now worth a fortune, but ask youself this: An investor from the city has £500 or there abouts to make a long/medium term investment, he has asked your opinion as a 'Rare Soul expert' which five Rare Soul Discs (Northern, Modern, Nu-Soul) that are now comparitively inexpensive & not massively difficult to obtain, he should purchase with a view to making a large profit in years to come. My advise would be: 100 Club/Kent anniversary singles. TSU Tornadoes - Please Heart Dont Break - Rampart Royal Esquires - Aint Gonna Run - Prix (Buy it whilst its cheap..its gonna go up again) The Dreamteam - As above Good solid soul records that you love & always promised yourself you would buy, but you need that big expensive piece this month & after all its been cheap for years & you'll get round to buying it soon. Soulful new releases on tiny indie labels, that only 300-500 copies were pressed for DJ's, 'dont really like that new stuff much & it'll never catch on'. What would be your five buys or pieces of advise ????????????? Russ
  5. Thank you for the help Russ
  6. Any one help me out here................Wrighty perhaps, JT tHANKS rUSS
  7. Sorry I cant do sound files right now other wise I would post them up Chalks. Russ
  8. They're still there Marc................defo, virtually every copy pressed was found, pretty much all minty too. The label owner died very recently too, which is a great shame, as if it wasnt for his persistence with the Dreamteam the disc in question would never have been cut. Some years prior to the release of this disc, one or two things were cut on the Dreamteam, all sank without trace & this last effort was, the final push on the group. I beleive that quantity still exists under the bed, but being canny theyre being 'rested for a bit' ;0). Russ
  9. Any one know this: Lonnie & Floyd - You Got To Feel It/What You Gonna Do - Jewel Wondered if this was very well known, cant say I have ever heard it before. If you do know it, is it one of the harder Jewel numbers ? & do you rate it ?, personally think this is pretty good. Russ
  10. Not really being of a very funky persuasion, dont really get it too be honest (?), so I was quite pleasantly suprised when I found this recently: Miss Hard To Get - Dennis Landry - Soul Unlimited Seems this was an answer record to Jean Knight - Mr Big Stuff. Any one know anything about it, availability, demand, price ???. Any info would be much appreciated, thank you. Russ
  11. Scan looks like the boot, but with colour variations from scanners cant be sure, the font on the boots is very slightly smudgy too, best way is with the SD etching. I think the boots were not bad quality tho', if that helps. Russ
  12. Off ya tits amphetasoul, to hell with the middle aged spread.......shake ya booty, vital or what. Russ
  13. Just found this thread belatedly........................promoting the Uptown Down South Soul Nights & Nighters was a fantastic experience & I am so pleased that you guys remember it fondly, its not until you see the play lists that you realise the quality of the sounds that were played. Good times, maybe when I return from the US I'll get the ball rolling again, its about time the South had another Nighter outside of the Smoke with some credibility........................what do you think, can it be done. Steve I'm just about to go on vacation for 3 weeks, but will PM you on my return, as I have nothing really from those nights & would dearly love to have some tapes to remind me. Cheers Russ
  14. This is Saus's old C/UP it is the Reagents...............cant remember label at mo, but will post up later...................I like this in a NSouly kinda way & have been listening to it a lot lately & wondering why it remained so obscure. Russ
  15. We shouldnt forget Shay in all of the Yate talk either.................still influential on the South Coast to this day & one of the very first champions of what we now regard as Modern Soul, still DJing still finding tunes. (& refuses to sell them for more than they are worth even when you point out that it had maybe gone for twice as much recently....top bloke). Russ
  16. Didnt Richard Searling play this at Wigan ??? Sure I recall it from there ???? Russ
  17. I have had the Admirals on two occasions................dont like the record & found it very difficult to sell. I also know an American collector that found at least one PT in the same place that Chris found the PT's. I have visited the place on several occasions & cant find any more.........but I guess I am just lucky like that  Russ
  18. I have every respect for your opinions Pete & appreciate your musical contributions, but you cant expect people not to reply to some of your outragious comments in a similar fashion........................keep em coming tho', as they keep me amused no end mate BTW I promoted the Newbury Nighters & went to most of the Albrighton Nighters & thought they were fantastic...............we didn't get everything right all the time, but we had a bloody good try................we also opened things right up again & hopefully was the catalyst for other promotions of a similar ilk. Russ
  19. went fishing..........................reeled in a big un Russ
  20. Dont talk bollox & climb down from ya own arsehole mate, we're in the 21st Century & an All-Nighter should include all appropriate soul music from all decades, if it fits the night & the sounds are good enough play it. Newbury & Albrighton Nighters were a breath of fresh air & helped bring the scene kicking & screaming up to date. I think the only person that thinks they are better & more knowledgeable is you Pete. Open up your mind, & if you engaged it before you opened ya gob, ya might find you enjoyed something other than oldies , stop wallowing in the past. Russ
  21. Ditto...........................Rock City ruled !!! Rules
  22. Poooooooooooooooooooo, agree with Dave M, wouldnt ave it in the house & as for £1200, LAUGHABLE !!!!. Russ
  23. You got it mate & thank you for remembering...............for a while we really got it right...................I think ???. Russ
  24. Anthing from any decade, so long as it is soulful, & has that certain something that you can never quite pin down, that makes it so appealing to us & you can dance to it, gets my thumbs up...................that's why I prefer the term 'Rare Soul', 'Rare' as in that certain something that makes a good soul disc great, not monetary value. Russ
  25. The whole scene was about the All-Night sessions & we really would be abandoning the basics for them not to be the heart of our scene in the 21st Century. I've been to some banging Dayers & some great Soul nights too, but to me & many others its got to be about an All-Nighter. Russ
