  1. Vernon was the bollocks & an inspiration to me at the time. I always danced on M's balcony too, on that bit of hardboard, the plaster would fall off the ceiling on the dancers below. Russ
  2. Just recently aquired the Sir Guy & love both sides, never really considered it to be a 'play' record IMO, how did it go down Marc ???. Russ
  3. Chris is a great friend................but imo most of Chris's moves have been copied from Keb. Sorry if you are reading this Chris, as I know how sensitive you can be over this just my opinion.
  4. I had a worrying conversation with a person with a connection to Lee about a year ago who told me he could get me an original studio acetate of the Primers, I m was interested, but when I diplomatically mentioned how to tell the difference between a genuinely old acetate & a newly cut one, I never heard from the guy again . Just a word of caution. Russ
  5. I have a spare if needed still PM me, Russ
  6. Different mix too..alledgedly ??????????? Russ
  7. This is the copy I have I think, its a 12'', but not credited to Eddie Billups (cant rememeber who) deffo is Eddie Billups tho', some other tracks too. Cant get all details as my copy is in storeage back home. Russ
  8. Roxy Threads were trading back in the day & sad as it may seem now, every Wigan Anniversary I used to have them make me a 'made to measure suit' specially for the event. The one I had made for the 6th Anniversary was a black suit with 38" bottom trousers, patch pocket, crown flaps & all the other stuff we had on our pants back then (oh my gawd), a blazeer with the customary soul club patch on the breast pocket, more pockets in the jacket than you could shake a stick at, buttons down the arms & all sorts of other things too . I also could never afford the long black leather coats every one wore back in the day, but one Saturday whilst in RT a coat that had been stolen & used as evidence in court was in the sale & I could then eventually afford one.........happy days. Sorry all long gone tho', any one else want to admit to thier embarrassing Northern Soul wardrobe, all were you all always cool as fcuk. Russ BTW often wonder if this is why I never bought todays £1000 record in the record bar at Wigan for 50 pence, before the normal mortals new about it, I was actually in mi cool clobber (or so I thought) dancing my arse off all night, I was more concerned about how good I looked on the dance floor than I did about owning the tunes back then ..
  9. Didnt he promote Yate prior to Dinks John ??? Hippo can you help out here, seem to remember him being a bit of a smash & grab kinda promoter, but could be wrong as I was pretty young & naive back then. Russ BTW Ian Clark would be fan bloody tastic, now on either a Northern or Modern tip, top DJ & top bloke too, one of my faves ever.
  10. I quite like it. Didnt realise it was Rockabilly tho'?????????????? RnB maybe. Seems to do the business when I hear it out. Driving dance floor mayhem........................love it Russ
  11. I know one or two popped up in a really obscure town in Virginia (cant remember were) this was during the last couple of years, but it literally was two or three. Russ
  12. Unissued acetate LP. I beleive that it was bought on ebay by one of our European soul fans (forgot who sorry) who later sold it to Greg. Not sure were it went after Greg sold up, maybe he still has it as I dont think Greg sold everything any way. There is a dodgy unissued CD compilation that has been doing the rounds for a couple of years that has it on too. BigO is right its the extra bit in the middle, that is bloody wonderful, almost sounds Modern - ish, wernt they a rock group any way ????. Russ
  13. I always associate Barbara Lynne Movin on a Groove & Trying to Love Two with the 'Uptown Down South' Soul Nights at Abshott & the Allnighters at Newbury, along with a plethora of other things that were later claimed by other venues DJ's. I remember playing the Barbara Lynne MOAG at the Bretby Nighter in the small crossover room & Bob Hinsley (Top bloke) raving over it, not too many weeks later this was massive for him at the Ritz & subsiquently every were. I also remember taking my life in my hands by playing an 8ts record during one of my early 100 Club sets, Barbara Lynne TTLT, these day's probably not a major event, but back then this was pretty risky business & it went down a storm, just goes to show, be brave & beleive in ya toons. Incidentally at the time you could buy TTLT from Soul Bowl for about £5 & MOAG for just slightly more. About the same time as Abshott hammering these Kenny played it at Cleethorpes in an afternoon set to complete ambivelance.............cant keep a good tune down tho', now untouchable due to the bores playing both to death. Russ
  14. Top choon, I've been after this for ages too, saw some shyster with one at the 100 Club maybe 18 months ago, had no idea what it was, so bunged £100 ++ on it & would not listen to reason, it'll be mine one day tho' Russ
  15. Sounds should be played because they are good full stop, rareity shouldnt have anything to do with it really, altho it is always nice to think that a choon you truly beleived in, that others might have overlooked, turns out to be hard to find once the demand is there. Dont get me wrong, I've paid big wedges for records, but there is nothing like finding a nice cheapie that turns out to be a winner. Like Gav says they were all cheap once !. Russ
  16. I dont think that it has ever been 'big' any were, I 've always thought of this as being more of a collectors record that gets an odd spin on occasions. It has always been quite a hard piece. IMO this deserves to be massive.....................love it, now some one post up & tell me I'm talking boll***s Russ
  17. Please can any one supply me with an email address for Dean. PM me of course not on forum. Many thanks Russ
  18. Bugger.....................never ever seen a stock copy, must be pretty damn hard ?????????? Thanks for scan Russ
  19. Just found it mate: Chantelle & the Aqualads - I'll Never Know/Dont Look - Aqua Its out of an area called Kannapolis in NC & was cut in 1968. Altho' I have no absolute proof without doing some digging I would be almost certain that this is 'The' Aqualads they have another disc on this label aswell as the better known disc on Gold Bee is it ??? memory fails me, but same area ish & yes, very beach, but IMO the better end of the beach stuff is awesome & there have been many examples over the years of this kinda sound on the scene & there is still a lot out there to be found too a great semi tapped source of sounds methinks. Hope this helps mate, you would probably get more info or even a copy out of Mr LS record dealer to the stars & a bloody nice bloke, if you need a number PM me. best Russ
  20. I'm not sure on price to be honest cant remember the last time I saw one for sale............but I would guess that its in the £250 region, any one confirm this ball park as I hate giving duff info & this is just an educated guess, should be more really considering how good this is & the fact that if reactivated would probably do very well on the dancefloor etc...........still we need exciting inovative oldies DJ's for that dont we Hope this helps. Russ
  21. Its listed in here mate, along with a lot of other Carolinas stuff too. https://www.carolinasoul.org/ Have fun Russ
  22. Yeah, its the real deal matey, been around for years. Love it. Russ
  23. I've only ever seen the silver promos, scan ????????? Thanks Russ
  24. The press was 250. I spoke with the guy that did them & he will not be doing any more. No more will hit the UK until those 25 have sold thru JM. The owner is unsure what will happen with the others as yet, he's just waiting to see what happens with these. Russ
  25. I know what these were sold to Jon for wholesale. Needless to say this was a fraction of what they are being sold on for. However if JM is selling them at this price & people are buying them then you cant blame him really. Russ
