  1. Quite a releif I would have thought . Russ
  2. Oh dear .
  3. Hi Gene William Cummings is from 1970. It is the release before the instrumental of MMLAHT by Zeke & the Soul Setters on Hit Bound. Confusing I know as they are different labels, but the release numbers tally up & all the labels Now, Bang, Bang & Hit Bound were D. Fitzgerald affiliated product, altho' it is thought that the instrumental of MMLAHT was recorded at a seperate session & is also slightly longer. Jay Griffin is just too messy for me, altho' it might grow on me, I like the start, but then it loses it a bit to these ears, maybe not straight up funk, but not traditional sounding NS either. Any one who would like all of these tracks mentioned on CD could do a lot worst than buying a copy of Ol' Virginia Soul Part 2, it has all these tracks plus the awesome 'Sheepherders' & other Virginia funk n soul beauties. Russ
  4. Same group as William Cummings, WC & JG were in the group Zeke & the Soul setters but wern't the vocalists normally, I heard WC was part of the horn section. I also heard that the reason that they put out several records in a very short amount of time under differing names etc was that one of the band had a terminal illness, so they were just getting as much stuff out as they could, but under other names, as well as the group name, so it would have more chance of 'hiiting'. Isnt JG a funk thing tho' Gene ??? Have it some where & seem to remember it losing it a bit for me. Also whilst it states DC on the label they were from Richmond VA. Best Russ
  5. Whistling, seagulls, waves breaking, inappropriate rock guitar breaks in other wise half decent records, rap breaks in modern tunes. Russ
  6. I live not far from Richmond where these guys came from & I have looked for this actively for quite some time, I have even had contact with band members through a third party. Altho' its not an exact science my feeling is this aint gonna turn up in any significant quantity. If I get lucky guys I'll be in touch. Best Russ
  7. Good Times, Bad Times.......simple lyrics, but seem to sum up my relationship with my better half, whenever the CD comes on in the car, I have to crank it to the max & with a big fat cheesy grin have a singalong at the top of my voice........feel good factor for me deffo. Russ

  16. Scenario: The Northern Soul movie has been out 6 - 8 months. It has been an astonishing success. It was done perfectly, the current scene embrace it as the best thing done on the scene ever. Hundreds maybe thousands of young people discover Northern Soul & are mad for it. The vast majority have 'got it' & embrace the scene. A big oldies Allnighter has been catering for the new demand for all things Northern Soul with regards to the music, but they are already getting bored & need a venue that will cater to thier musical preferences which is the traditional Northern Soul format, New Discoveries, Rareities, Credible Oldies & a smattering of Crossover, Modern & New Releases if they are appropriate. You have found the ideal venue. It is in a location that is accesible from all points of the country, It holds a thousand plus people, the venue, local authorities etc are all on side & you have enough cash to promote the venue properly & everything is in place ready to go for potentially the next 'legendary Venue'. Butch is the countries number one DJ & has agreed to be a resident. He will do a two hour set. Because you are the promoter & you have a half decent record collection & you can put a not bad set together you will do an hour also. The Nighter runs for eight hours & you need five other DJ's. Keeping in mind the musical direction of the venue who would be your Dream Team of DJ's who will launch this venue into history & keep potentially thousands of new soulies, plus all of us old farts happy & coming back. There is great potential here to go off at tangents & get bogged down with all sorts of stuff, but lets try to keep to the plot & not go dpwn the oldies versus newies, Northern or Modern route etc, etc. I am interested in current DJ's from 2006, not 'well back in the day so n so would have been great here', or the 'my mate Bob has a great collection just needs a chance'. Might be an idea to add a comment on why you have chosen each of your five DJ's, for example 'Mick Smith is the bollocks, he will do the last hour of the Nighter cos he'll send em away dancing & wanting more'. There you go then, the future of the Northern Soul Scene is in your hands name the DJ's who are going to save the Northern Soul World !!!!!!!!. Russ
  17. Thanks Chalks....................a class record, that I for once had a bargain with, bought this & Soulful Twins on sable for £25, about 3 yrs or so ago, the bloke wanted £35 but I only had £25 in my wallet & couldnt be arsed to go to the Cash Point, was flabbergaed when he accepted my tongue in cheek offer . Great record IMHO & will receive its true accolade in time. Russ
