  2. Yeah we have mate & as time passes I think you have it right Dave, altho I wasnt defending Joe, just stating his reply to my email, as ridiculous as it sounds !!!! Russ

  6. I emailed Joe in Las Vegas today to get the low down on this....................he says that he bought a very small quantity from someone in the UK , doesnt help I know, but if true an interesting turn of events. Russ
  7. Absolutely spot on.................if its good danceable soul music, play it, the dance floor will let you know if its Northern Soul or not...............class under exposed oldies, big rareities, newly discovered tunes from all decades, that have the X factor, all in one venue in one room.............open minds, full dancefloor......................happy day's.............remember when this was just how it was, instead of an exception . As someone that collects from all decades & enjoys all the different genres, its very frustrating, both as a punter & a DJ, when I have to be at different venues or in a different room to hear the music I love, likewise as a DJ I love to mix it up as much as I dare, usually to an enthusiastic reaction. Russ
  8. Sure is......................any more like it tho that us mere mortals might not know ???. Russ
  9. Yeah, good call mate. Pete As you know, with many records you have to hear them over a big system, at a Nighter off ya tits, when the volume is pinning ya ears to the wall & the atmosphere is electric, hear this in situ at the 100 Club & I will guarantee you'd get it mate.............wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomph !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Russ
  10. Dont worry Dave, not gone native yet . Cant wait for it mate, just found out today that mi boss is away that weekend.................sooooooooooooooooooooo it means I should be able to get a reasonably early flight Friday . I'll let you know the details soonest. I'll bring the BH LP, as the Modern track on there is pretty awesome. Russ
  11. Wash ya ears out Pete , dont know about best new discovery, Adeys been playing it for at least 2 yrs, but its a fantastic record.......................not the AS tho', I think it will be the Milton Bennet myself . Another great 100 Clubber . Russ BTW I will miss another anniversary as I am still here in the US ..................but if these are crap records then gawd help us................The 100 Club is the best Nighter in the country IMHO & records like this & DJ'S THAT HAVE THE BOLLOCKS TO PLAY EM to an appreciative & up for it crowd make it that way................& long may it reighn .
  12. I have recently bought the Beres Hammond LP Soul Reggae & wanted to recommend it, its bloody fantastic.........................even the couple of tracks that are Reggae on there are very good. Which all lead me to thinking whether there are any other Reggae Artists who have recorded straight up soul tracks, no Reggae rythms just proper soul..................Im not a big Reggae fan to be honest (sorry) but I have over the years heard some cracking soul records by predominantly reggae artists, any suggestions other than the obvious (Pioneers, Glen Miller, the other Beres Hammond 'favour' et al). Also, can anyone give me any history on the Soul Reggae LP by BH. Did it get reissued. My copy is on Tiger Lily, Im sure that I have read something before on SS about this LP being reissued or that it came out on two labels ??? but couldnt find it in a search, any help with this thankfully received. Russ
  13. Tina Florence on APT..........................If memory serves me right Chalky. Russ
  14. Isnt there a harder issue of the IF Dave ???. Maybe a West Coast press or something similar I seem to recall which is infinitely rarer than the normal issue ????. Russ
  15. Ditto, often spent a few moments talking about the RN with Sean, he had a genuine repect for the Navy guys that went to Niters. Hope he's well. Russ
  16. If it said 'Across the Board' or 'Crossover' I would be more likely to go than if it was 100% mouldie oldies !!!! . Russ
  17. I absolutely love the Ohio Players version of LSTMF this was the version that I always heard in the South in the seventies & altho' I like SW I also really rate the OHP too. Top tchoon IMHO & needs playing out more. Russ
  18. This the tune that is really doin' it for me right now......................just lurvvvvvvvvvvve this. Harvey Averne Dozen - Never Learned to Dance...............just drags ya kickin & screamin onto the floor !!!!! 'Do it to Me Bass Man'. The breaks are to die for, the dancers should be demanding this, latin soul for the dancefloor & then some. Russ
  19. Your da man Chris, spoke with the guy at Ameba yesterday, I think it was a store on Sunset Blvd, sounds good anyway. Yeah, I have had some strange experiences with Rich, dont know if I can put up with his poo attitude either, so I think I'll leave that one. Just had a laugh with Jenny, cos we're stopping in the Stratosphere mate, you can imagine her face . Been working on this for awhile actually, but just hoped that people may have other info too, thank you for coming thru for me Chris..................you over for Allentown this year ???. Be good to see you again, hope your well. Thanks everyone & wish the worst record finder in NATO a little bit of luck . Russ
  20. Less than 24 hrs before we fly out to San Francisco, so needed to bump this...............so any snippets & particularly the phone numbers for Rich & Joe would be helpful, thank you. Russ
  21. Absolutely spot on mate................a perfect description. Russ
  22. Exactly my take on the term too Sean, definitely not before 79-80, Rock City was my first real taste of Modern Soul, altho I had always enjoyed the music without the 'tag''. Russ
  23. Thanks Mandy & Chris, I'll email ya Chris..............................you never know my lean streak might be up !!!. Russ
