  1. This is my last word on this as its not my problem, but do you think said DJ was showing Baz & Lenny respect with those remarks on the Mike, regardless of whether the guy was being personal or referring to the music these two played as a whole, my point is not what was played but the fact that someone was so rude as to say that over the mike. What a chopper, anyway shouldnt be allowed anywhere near the decks unless he's playing off the original format of release................cat ,pidgeons . Russ
  2. Fantastic record.....................& the best version by far, soul & then some, good deep flip too. Russ
  3. Personally feel that if someone said what they said on the mike, they deserve what they get, Im all for living & let live, but if Gibby hadnt of made the comment the post would never have been made............personally whilst I enjoy all aspects of the music on the scene, I do get a tad peeved at the sanctimonious attitude of some oldies only fans who are of the opinion that the only real NS records are the ones that have been thrashed to death....................maybe Giblet or who ever he is should keep his gob shut on the Mike & let the dancefloor speak for itself ???. Russ
  4. Thanks Them.....anyone ??? Russ
  5. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh . Russ
  6. Kenny Smith - One More Day Robin Rice - Ive Had It Jimmy Burns - on Dispo & hoping to buy the Jay Proctor CD when I can get the track listings to check the right track is on there grrrrrrrrrrrrr ! Russ
  7. Who cares if its sixties or released earlier today, its about that certain x factor that makes the soul record appeal to the NS dancefloor, while ever soul records are being made & records discovered from across the decades, whether released or not there will be a scene. Also IMHO seventies records have been played on the scene since the 70's, like wise with eighties, nineties & noughties, the main percentage has always been sixties, but records from all decades have always been played, so not so sure that the topic is that relevant really. Long live open minds & full dancefloors . Russ
  8. As a serving member of the Royal Navy I would just like to add that women are ok if you cant get the real thing !!! gotta dash its my turn in the barrel . Do you not also think there may be an element with women/girls who are not completely on the soul scene that cos we really arnt interested that much in chicks when we're talking/dancing to soul music they get the hump, especially if they are used to getting pestered up down the local trapping joint. Nothing like watching attractive girls/women dance but paranoia & small penis syndrome as well as the tendancy not to stop talking bollox once started are not traits non soul women find attractive in their men. BTW what percentage of women on the soul scene are lesbians ??? I dont mean those ones in comfortable shoes I mean those real ones that you see in the magazines . Russ
  9. More details pse Dave...............you never know I may be able to make it too. Russ
  10. Juan was tearing up the floor at the 100 Club long before you guys had to 'make do' with Debbie's wailing . Russ

  13. My best skip down Southsea was from Skip Jackson..............10 skips.............however prior to this the world record was held by Skip Mahoney at 8 & 3/4 skips, did try to skip a skip once but it sank . Hello Dave . Russ

  15. My god...................in a nutshell Northern Soul...........brilliantly & eloquently put Brian. Thank you for putting into words what I have strived to for so long, but never found the right words. Russ
  16. Blackpool Mecca mate, with Ian Levine etc, etc............massive influence on the scene even as a Soul Nght................just wondered if things would have turned out differently if the Mecca had been a Nighter. Russ
  17. Would it have effected the scene in any way if the Highland Room had been an All Nighter ???. Discuss: Russ
  18. I have heard the ballast story many times on the South Coast in connection with Southampton Docks, certainly would explain the plethora of US imports there were knocking around the South Coast in all the second hand record stores etc.........may also explain why the South Coast area is one of those strange oasis's of N soul that you got darn sarf sometimes. Russ
  19. Massive sound at the Newbury nighters few years back. Russ
  20. Outrageously untrue claims of this nature dont really help Kevs case do they.............quite sad really, does he really beleive this stuff do you think ???. Re-Kick started the Rare Soul collectors market by selling the world's rarest Soul 45, Frank Wilson's - Do I Love You (see below) for £5,000 (1990!) Why even try to get away with it........... Russ
