  1. Totally agree & agree with all the above posts, just play good soul records that you are passionate about................a lot of the obscure lesser known cheapies are tommorows rareities once the demand is there...........likewise look at the mega rareities that have turned up in quantity over the years...........only criteria should be good danceable soul music that you have a passion for. Russ
  2. Brilliant record...............price depends on whether it is the local issue or the release nationally distributed by Atco...........not much innit tho', cant find the record in VA tho', found mine in Florida of all, places, probably all in the UK. Hope this helps Russ
  3. I think you've got it Jo , was a little bored & was having a little tongue in cheek fun, I dont think your credentials are being questioned either Kirsty. I do sometimes wonder about the passion & commitment of some people these days's tho. I would never advocate anyone not looking after thier children in a correct manner either, but at the risk of repeating myself, there are not many people who couldnt make arrangements to support thier favourite Allnighter on a monthly basis if they wanted to...............I know its hard I have to work weekends, have a young son blah, blah, blah. I also have dilemas on occasion were I feel guilty, but on the whole I tend to find a balance between being a middle aged soul rebel & a loving husband & father. Russ
  4. Voices Inc - Thinkin - Columbia Loads of good Sounds of Blackness tracks (Know you mentioned AN Gavin) Russ
  5. You can do that during the daylight hours cant you, most of us have children. It all depends upon how much you really want to go............you are not neglecting your family if you organise yourself properly, sweeping statement I know & not aimed at anyone specifically, but its an excuse for people who cant be arsed, or who's wifes wont let em out. Theres no reason whatsoever why most ordinary people cant attend thier favourite Allnighter on a monthly basis if they wanted to & organised themselves properly, most dont want to bother & use family obligations as an excuse cos they feel people wont berate them for this.......... FACT IS THEY DONT WANNA GO.........................more cocoa anyone. The Northern Soul scene is an Allnight scene if you aint attending Nighters on a regular basis, you might enjoy the music but your not supporting the greater good of the scene. It wont be long before we are all sat in front of the PC at the wekend listening to a podcast whilst sipping our milky drink, & tapping away on the forum about how much you KTF. btw there are a few exceptions on the soul night front, who with good music policies are making a difference, but in my experience on the whole a good Allnighter is where its at every time & lets face it, its what NS is all about. There endeth the lesson !!! Russ
  6. I too am getting on a bit, I have an extremely responsible job & a seven year old boy. Also do not have any Nighters on my doorstep, where ever I go when in the UK, I am travelling. Thing is if you are passionate about the 'scene' you can get around these things with a little planning..............its about dedication, its what seperates us from the rest of the adult world.........how many sugars in ya cocoa matey. BTW when I was a nipper it took me most of the week to recover...........not much has changed either. If you live the life you get it sorted dont you. My wife just lets me get on with it now pretty much, she knows I would be unbearable if I couldnt at least go to the 100 Club & usually at least one other Allnighter a month & compared with many Im a part timer !!!. We do go to a local soul night together one weekend too, tho. Russ
  7. 'ALLNIGHTERS'.........GET A GRIP, ITS WHAT THE SCENE IS ALL ABOUT INNIT. TUCKED UP IN BED WITH A NICE MILKY COCOA BY 3AM.........JEEZ GET A SOUL LIFE !!!!. COULD YOU IMAGINE READING SOME OF THESE POSTS IN 1976, YOU LOT NEED SOME BETTER MEDICATION. RUSS
  8. Did you get this John ????. PM if not. Russ
  9. I had never really aspired to be a DJ & started quite late on, I was at a local Soul Night in Southampton as a punter & the guest DJ didnt show. The promoter & resident DJ asked me if I would pop home & bring some records to play...............I really had to be persuaded too, eventually agreed & much to my enbarrassment the promoter had to stand next to me for an hour putting the records on that I had chosen, as I had no idea what to do. Somebody commented to my other half that I didnt say anything on the mike for the whole set, to which Jenny replied 'When he does start you'll never shut him up'..........the rest is history !!!! ......... ('lets ave ya"). Much to my suprise later in the evening one or two people said that they enjoyed my set & another local promoter booked me for the next week !!!!. Whilst I consider myself a punter & collector first & foremost, & Im not really a proppa DJ, I am always very happy to play my records to an audience & feel very privelidged to do so............when they are kind of course !!!. Russ
  10. Love this record Dave, was quite a popular side (the english speaking one) at the Newbury Nighters some years ago. Found a loverly minter in Savannah 2 yrs ago & had a devil of a job selling it............too dramatic for some I feel. Russ
  11. Yeah, I miss him too Baz, real characters with a passion for the music. Lives in Brighton now I beleive ???. Russ
  12. Yeah, me too mate. Keep us posted. Russ
  13. Out of interest what would be current price for a copy of 'Ice'. Whilst talking values, also wondered about the 'rareity' of Mixed Emotions' & current price. Any ideas pse ???. Russ
  14. Gavin this is where I saw the scan too & what I based my post on, seems to me that unless someone knows any better that this could be in the 'list' maybe...........possibly not a 'trendy' enough sound tho' with it being readily available at a reasonable price on the LP . Hope you are well mate. Looking forward to seeing you later in the year. Best Russ
  15. Your a nice lad, but lets not turn this into an excuse to let Wigan off the hook...............I went to Wigan & loved it, but Yate was one of the most influential & under valued venues ever IMHO Ian Clark & others were taking the piss out of Wigan at times with some of the stuff that was being played. There are loads & loads of things that were played at Yate before they travelled Northward & attributed to others. Stafford & the 100 Club, venues that have kept the scene alive over the years playing proppa NS with a passion & from the heart, owe much more to Yate than they do to the Casino................this is not an opinion its a fact !!!!. Lets get Greety, Shay, Ady P, Dave T, Hippo, Tony Ellis, Clarkie (unlikely) & the rest of the gang together again, not for a nostalgia trip, but because these guys are still playing credible soul records that would make for a fantastic night of soulful shenanigans. Nobody living on past glories here.............Yate was the real deal. Russ
  16. I had one of the first copies to turn up, bought from Perry (In fact I think this is my copy on the sound file). Ion had it covered up, I think as Charles Brandy...........could be totally off with that tho'. Brilliant record that after the first few, has never turned up. I remember Ian Levine reviewing this as one of his new discoveries about 3-4 years after we were playing this out & had to smile to myself. I recently tried to contact some of the people to do with the disc, in several different way's, but didnt have one single reply from anyone. Hard one I think. Hope this helps. Russ
  17. I think Clarkie has the only confirmed 7 in the UK ???. rUSS
  18. Totally agree. Russ
  19. Thank you..................is this realistic ????. Russ
  20. Does anyone have a current value for this pse. An mp3 would be good also if anyone can post it up. Thanks in advance. Russ
  21. Always preferred this version & eventually snagged one last year from ebay, like both but JH is by far the superior version........the rest of ya are deaf . Russ
  22. I need a copy of this too, so if a second appears in the rush, I would be interested. Russ
  23. You lucky f*$#er, 3 hours is a breeze. Russ
