  3. I think it all depends on how much recent exposure the 'reactivated' disc has had, there are hundreds of records that were played for a few weeks or months back in the day at different venues that have never really been played again, so for all intensive purposes, to most on today's scene they are almost like recent discoveries........of course this is only my opinion & im a great advocate of spinning new material, but the pool of totally unknown records is getting smaller by the day, so it makes sense to dig back into the distant past for things. There were also & still are regional spins, a record that could be quite familiar to say the South Coast soulies, but could be relatively unknown or unplayed else where. When it doesnt make sense is when its a top 500 regular oldie spin that we all know anyway. Russ

  9. Just seen a post from Rod, wingging of a fictional great Cover Up name for a group. 15. Maybe Im wrong Pete, but i just thought Tommy was trying to respect the wishes of the person/people who had it covered up & was just trying to head of at the pass 'the ive got that its ?????' before it happened. Russ
  16. Cover ups are great & part of the scene & long may they continue. Russ
  17. Tommy i think you have done the right thing mate, dont rise to the bait..........good luck with the auction............... oh & BTW Tommy is an excellent DJ who in the 21 st century is better than Ian Levine. In fact i dont know why im even defending Tommy really as anyone can see all he's doing is using the correct etiquette & now he's getting pulled up on it, you know it doesnt matter what you do these days there always someone going to piss on your bonfire. I dont really think Tommy cares about whether this tune is covered up from any financial point of view, its just in his opinion he didnt want to uncover it, he could have played the big 'i am' and uncovered it to a drum roll, but he didnt, he's not worried about the dosh as the LP is rare anyway & he probably would get the same financially covered or uncovered. Russ
  18. Sorry but I lurrrrrrrrrrvvvvvvvvve this. Russ

  22. Brilliant Washington DC sound, Dave Abbott & I have raved over this for some years now, altho' it has been known for years before that even.......dodgy break, but the rest carries it thru' IMO. Reminds me of the Velvettes a bit. Russ
  23. Hey David When I was in the US I met up with the label owners a few times & got quite a few bits from them, there were a lot of acetates too, unfortunately most were just bad versions of the released stuff. The reason I was asking about the CM & M was because I was told by the owners that it was never released ???? Mine is the red LREV label & i was told it was one of three they had cut, but never did anything with, apparently it was the last thing they did............I find the 3 copies bit a little weird as it looks like the finished product too, so to do only three would have been a bit unusual to say the least. As a slight aside if you look at the credits on the left hand side of the label it names thier wifes or then girlfriends on the credits.........actually its them doing the harmonies on the chorus, as they couldnt afford backing singers, 2 white jewish girls !!!!. I also agree about the Bob Marshall David top tuneage !!!!. Thank you for the info mate, I would value your further opinion on the availability of the CM & M or anyone else that may know anything or have the 45. Cheers. Russ
  24. Charlie McClendon & the Magnificents - Keep on Doin' - L - REV............. anyone know this ? and or have any information on the release pse. Much appreciated Russ
  25. I have a copy of this, which incidentally I really like, but including the one up on ebay at the mo & a friends copy, mine is the only other I have seen & its slightly different, all the label details are the same with regards credits etc, but the font on the 'Legrand' logo is smaller & altho its difficult to tell exactly cos my label is slightly faded, my colour looks lighter. I have it on very good authority that in 1982 when Frank Guida was shutting his shop down on Church St in Norfolk, VA, he was literally giving these away by the box full, one local dealer had so many that when he moved house he junked nearly all of them for the space, so i would find it hard to beleive they would have done a second press, also even if the funk guys had done a reissue I would be suprised if it would have ended up where I found my copy.............any ideas & can anyone confirm the existence of a different label design or am I going bonkers ?? BTW Regardless of the above statement this is pretty hard these days, spose most were ditched ?. Here's the link to the one on ebay. https://i20.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/bf/c3/2d83_2.JPG Russ
