Russ
  7. I would agree with this too, i paid 75 UKP for a VG+ copy six months ago............ Russ
  8. I think its the same scenario as we have had in the past really, with EMI's, CD's, Mini Disc & now digital formats........all great for personal use or for swapping sounds with people, brilliant for the radio too, but playing out should be from the original format, in the case of unissued material, so long as the correct people have given the ok, whoever they may be, cut it onto what you like to play. Also prices of records these day's is reasonably relative, back in the day when 'Frank' was DJing, you guys spent a fortune compared with your weekly wage.......mere mortals could never ever really push to these kinda prices, tenacity, luck & good taste hopefully help.......but not much else has changed other than, the scene/collecting is not just predominantly for the working classes anymore, so maybe slightly more disposal income ???. Russ
  9. Slightly different, but similar........i was record hunting in Texas & whilst i didnt have amazing luck, i'd still found a Rhonda Davis pink demo M- ish nick & a few other bits n bobs, i have a small record box that holds maybe 10 - 12 records that i usually put into a bag to keep any finds safe on the way home...........well, got back to the hotel & there is no sign of the box any where, did i leave it on the car roof or the curb ????? has it disappeared into that great lost record void along with millions of odd socks. I did kick myself, but hey you cant beat ya self up forever, i do wonder tho, what the chances of a Brit walking along a curb in Texas looking for the next flea market or oldies store & finding this box on the curb, complete with the obligatory torn out sheet from the yellow pages !!!!!!. Still wondering.......... . Russ...........the worst record hunter in NATO !
  10. I think this is the point isnt it............taste everytime methinks. Russ

  12. The other reason is, most of the do's i attended ( & enjoyed BTW) it looked like the dressing room for the extras in an Austin Powers movie. Russ
  13. And IMO that's half the problem as to why they'll never be proper NS scene in the US. Russ

  19. Was played at the 100 Club, but was more of a Stafford record really Simon..........BTW missed you on Saturday, would love to have met you........if your not doing anything Friday mate, you'd be very welcome at the dooooooo in Portsmouth. Russ
  20. All the clubs past & present have tunes that you associate with the venue.......what tunes are 100 Club records, i mean broke & played there...........some that have never really been played else where either. Obviously all the Anniversary Singles, the unreleased RCA stuff which appears on the Kent CD's, but if you had to compile a definitive 100 Club CD what would make the final cut.......lets say 20 tunes ish. Looking forward to this..........Ady, care to add your list ?????. Russ
  21. I think you are right.............I just get very frustrated sometimes, because to me NS has to be fresh & exciting & part of that is hearing new sounds for the first time or being reminded of great tunes from the past that havnt been over played...........I do not think that NS 'oldies' are bad records in them selves & I sometimes think people get the wrong end of the stick here........most are great records, but clever DJ's will 'rest' records so they dont get thrashed & therefore lose there appeal or dig deeper to find the ones we've almost forgotten............maybe Im being too much of an idealist & I know it takes 'all sorts'..........I just know in the next few weeks Ill get a tap on the shoulder from some one saying why are you dancing to blah, this is an 'oldie'....& it'll probably be you . Russ
  22. I dont want to make a 'big issue' out of any of this & Im sure you are a top bloke..........but you really seem to have some, what you call 'snobbery' issues..........I just dont get it, why some people have to look down there noses on the people who really care about the scene & desperately spend a lifetime searching new tunes, some they get right others they dont, its happened on the scene since day One..........oh well, BTW i have no probs with a selection of plays in sets regardless of wether there considered oldies or newies, just put some thought into it. Dont want this to degenerate into the usual shambles, because people wont except what is 100% fact & that is the original Northern Soul Scene was not about listening to 'played' out oldies over & over again.............you can call people, you can refuse to listen to thier point of view, you can do naked flick flacks for all i care, but you can never ever get away from the truth. Russ
  23. As usual the ladies bring the voice of reason to the party............& I think on the whole Helen you have it right......hope to meet you Sat BTW at Lightwater. Russ
  24. Get your dictionary out & look up Northern Soul........you'll realise then that the whole point of the original scene was/is to find new tunes to play..........gets harder, thats why reactivations of interesting oldies is so vital too these day's. I dont think anyone is saying that the top 500 for want of a better expression, arnt on the whole good records, but do you really want to hear them out every week, to me this isnt a Northern Soul scene as it goes against every ethic, that the original pioneer DJ's & yes those at Wigan & all the venues from the 'golden era' were trying to acheive, along with some very hard working DJ's these day's. I have no problem with anyone wanting to listen to Frank Wilson until they are sick, but pse dont fob me off with venues playing this & the like constantly, as being the 'real' NS venues..............stay in ya time warp guys, I'll come & visit once a year & have a thoroughly good time, but the rest of the time i'll stick to the genuine article thank you . BTW 'Rare Soul Shite' was what this wonderful music of ours was known as prioir to the term NS, some on the scene prefer this term so as not to be asscotiated with what the rest of the world think is NS . Keep the Faith....Okeh Russ
