  5. Glad you had a good night Saturday mate, with regards to BD each to thier own, however to put the comment into context, you are on record as to not really liking Tommy & the Derby's either , which is one of the best Northern Soul records to have been discovered in the last 10 years IMVHO, people will be pleased to know tho' that BD is a comparitively cheap record, so dont have to dislike it, cos its rare or they cant afford one, BTW Im not putting BD in the same bracket quality wise as Tommy & the Derby's, just agreeing that its a nice semi known record that deserves a few plays.........see ya soon Tim. Russ

Russ
  10. Perhaps not Ken, but its just one of those tunes that really strikes a chord with me, with no real reason for doing so other than its just a great singalong feel good dancer............lurrrrrrrvvvvvvvveeeeeeee it. Thanks again to the Abbott who continuously bombarded me with this until subconsciously I had to fall in love with it.............sneaks up on you & you find your self singing it at the top of your voice in the pasta aisle at Tesco, frightening old ladies .............OMG must be Friday.............off on a sureal tip again, Russ
  11. Another top tune from the depths of the mighty, mighty 100 Club..........Mr Croasdell discovery that has been 'placed' with other DJ's for maximum soul impact, a dancers delight that rocks your soul...........keep em comin'...........newies rule ok !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!another glimmer of hope in a nostalgia drenched pit of mediocrity........ Russ
  12. Nice one Mike........hope you are well mate. Russ
  13. Yep, in the Soul Duo with Ida Sands & many of the Shiptown releases also featured the Showmen on backing. The Norfolk area of Virginia was prolific with Shiptown, How Big, which were Noah Biggs labels & Frank Guidas group of labels, as well as others, always thought there is a good CD comp there some where. Lenis Guess was obviously also asscotiated with FG labels & others, including his own. Out of interest Ida Sands - Rescue Me on Shiptown is a far better version than the Chief version, which was redone in NYC, apparently they couldnt afford the train fare for Ida & the Idettes, so used the studio backing singers, again the Shiptown release is a rawer affair, far harder than the Chief release, its popularity suffers as most have only heard this version. I played the Shiptown release at the 100 Club earlier this year & its gained a few more fans hopefully. Russ
  14. I think the F&E might be a different mix, not sure about the others, would a Test Press have a different miix to the released version on the same label ???. Russ
  15. Ok, my test press must be the RCA as the F&E release, has the track at 4.06........so the local label must be a different cut or the same as the UK & LP cuts ?????. Russ
  16. Ah, thank you for that Seb, altho' the seller suggests it was the earlier label test press, which mislead me slightly, but still happy. Russ
  17. I thought the soundfile was crap Ken, which lead me to ask the question of whether the mix is different, lots of bass which distorts the sound, I think this is probably just the way the seller did the soundfile tho'...............I hope anyway . Russ
  18. Yep, to me Seb..............but as there had been a comment that suggested that this was a carver, I wondered if I had blagged a bargain inadvertantly ????. Russ
  19. Dont know why but the BD does it for me every time, Dave Abbott does it again...........fine tune IMVHO. Russ
  20. ..........well chuffed........as Simon T as described, plain white label, hand written credits 'Gypsy'......... 'Cause' not 'Cuz' still dont know if this is the same mix as the RCA release tho'............where is Steve G when you need him.............or anyone for that matter. Anyone an idea of value for the Test Press ??????????? Russ
  21. Shiptown is the original release & I too have been told the mix was better, Joe Webster the lead singer who I met last year didnt know if the mixws were different tho'..............anyone ?????. Russ
  22. So there are definitely differences Andy ?????????? Russ
  23. Is there any difference between local & RCA mixes of JAMES WALSH GYPSY BAND - Cuz It's You, Girl.............local sounds beefier to me & slightly different in a subtle way that I cant put my finger on, Im wondering if its the quality of the sound file of the local issue mix..............can anyone help please. Thanks Russ
  24. All good mate...........quit the job I was in, but had a couple of offers, so should be working for a living again shortly ........you going Silk's Saturday ???. Hope all is well with you my friend. Russ
