  5. I'll be honest if a venue is charging £2/3 admission, I probably wouldnt even bother, doin it on the cheap in a crap venue, would be my immediate thoughts (not neccessarily true, but that is what I would be thinking first). £15 should be the absolute minimum entrance fee to an All Nighter IMHO. If folk are doing it right & making a slight profit, then that is the bare minimum that should be charged. Any other ordinary club is charging at least the above & if promoters are doing things right & putting the punter not the profit margin first then I have absolutely no problem with this. Food for thought, we were charging £5 admission 15 years ago to a soul night, it never became an issue with our punters because I believe we gave exceptional value for money. To do a soul night properly in 2014, I would want to charge £8 at least. I have never ever wanted to use scout huts, social clubs etc for venues, I want to give my punters much more than that & were possible use proper clubs & up market function rooms, with the best quality equipment & DJ's. Anyone can throw together a shoddy do in a dingy social club, with ya own dodgy equipment & mates DJing...oh yeah, thats pretty much what most do's are these days innit..... on the whole ya get what ya pay for generally. 6. I have played at least 3 of these, the Jesse James particularly is a fantastic slab of dancefloor soul....found a load in Memphis years ago, its not a rare record but it deserves to be played because its brilliant.... Best Russ
  7. In demand, rare play records have always been expensive, right back to day one....yea, back in the past you may have had a better chance of finding a copy cheap through digging, but thats about it really.... Whilst I would champion anyone who digs & finds great records at a good price, I thought that was the actual point.....Im not sure I am in agreement of putting prices on whats being played at venues TBH, the emphasis is that it should be a great record & get the place jumping...that should be the only criteria shouldnt it ???. Best Russ
  8. Yes, & I noticed recently someone who got caught thieving records some years ago, at least 10, maybe 15 years ago, was DJing some where recently....disgusting, shouldnt even be allowed in a venue IMHO....I know its a long time ago & yes you could argue forgive & forget, but an open apology on here maybe would have gone some way to understanding, on the assumption said person is repentant....
  9. Gary, if you have an idea who had em away, I'm sure there would be no shortage of volunteers to go & get em back with you....there will deffo be CCTV footage, surely the cops have searched all CCTV around the area.....if it was me & I knew who it was, I wouldnt have even posted on here, I would have just got it sorted... I'm happy to donate reward money too... Anything I can do Gary, just PM me.... Best Russ

  19. Friday night oldies was the first nail really, with hind sight, didnt mind the seventies & modern so much, as long as there was a balance & as for love, I'm blessed with a very understanding family, although over the years I have pushed their patience to the limit....I think my only saving grace was that my wife was on the scene for many years & I did say when we married 'If you think I will ever grow out of this......' As for the motivation Pete....well I just cant get that soulful monkey off my back & its not enough to get the hit at home, I need to share the experience with other like minded people..... Best Russ
  20. Hey Pete I'm up for anything, s'long as it has the X Factor....I'm just making the point that we're not all stuck in a nostalgia time warp, for many people things have moved on, it doesnt matter whether people agree or dislike it, it just is....I respect all opinions, its when people start telling you that your wrong, based purely on the fact they wont listen or go any where that doesnt play the kinda oldies they like..... I like old skool type newies too, there just aint enough coming through to sustain my appetite, so I listen to whatever is played with open ears, some I like, some I dont, but on the whole I find the whole thing much more inspiring than a night of 'those' kinda oldies. Best Russ
  21. Kev, here's my news....I agree to a point, I think the scene is very healthy right now, certainly the events I attend, loads of new sounds coming through, younger enthusiastic dancers, DJ's & promoters, I am in agreement with the thread starter whole heartedly. What I disagree with, is the people who constantly bleat on that there have been no decent new discoveries since the 7ts, or when ever, which is so completely & ridiculously untrue its almost laughable. I'm sure NS is all good for you Kev, because if it wasnt you wouldnt be promoting, its your livelihood, why would you question it....what I am saying, is that I find the term NS a bit embarrassing & cringy these days & I would rather not have the asscotiation TBH. KOKO Russ
  22. In the 8ts there was a meeting of the, I think, three top promoters at the time, whwere they managed to thrash it out & come to a compromise. Thing is could the amount of die hard All Nighter goers sustain one central venue, I'm not sure there is enough any more. Best Russ
  23. Hello mate - I think we should revert to Rare Soul TBH. The nostalgia type events are welcome to the term NS, it would help distinguish between events. Although I work in Iraq, I imagine that I still attend more All Nighters & Soul events than many. When I'm home I generally will get to at least one Nighter & one other, a Nighter, a Soul Night or an Alldayer, my closest All Nighter is a 2 hour drive, altho we hammer up North mostly still, I can do my house on the South Coast to Manchester in about 3 hours on a good run these days :-).
