  1. Me too............prefer the horns........... Russ
  2. I think there are 100's of records that have been played over the years, that we have forgotten or are at the back of our subconscious minds, many of which have or will be played again in the future & deservedly so, but there are certain records & certain kinds of records that were very specific to a particular moment in time. At that time they were huge & very popular records & have a place in NS history, how ever they probabaly wouldnt work today........thats not saying they arnt any good or whatever, just saying, they had there moment of glory on the dance floors of the North, but probably wont ever surface again as 'big' records cos they're just not right.............IMHO Bubble Gum & Rhino are two examples of these kinda sounds, but there are many of them out there, a lot of the white pop stompers wouldnt work today, again this is only my opinion, however you only have to look at things like Florence Trapp, Walter & Sister, Mixed Feelings, Mixed Emotions etc, etc etc to name just a few, amongst many from the last couple of years to further realise there are some wonderful tunes out there just waiting to be rediscovered, these are the kinda oldies I love & more power to the enterprising DJ's who unearth em for thier second coming, sometimes to be even bigger sounds than they were the first time around with many out there never having heard em in the first place any way. Hope I have explained myself properly, do think this can be personal taste aswell tho'.............altho' I really couldnt see myself spinning or dancing to Joe 90, Hawaii Five O, Condition Red, Coloured Man, Theme from Police Story,...........ever, ever, ever............ Best Russ
  3. The word of Mr Ferguson is good enough for me, I have only known Dave a relatively short amount of time, but this guy is probably one of the most morally incorrupt people on the planet............oh yeah, he's a bloody nice bloke too, with impeccable taste in all things soulful............if he needed anything, I would be in my motor & with him &/or his family in hours.............top bloke............end of !!!! Russ
  4. Deffo not, you have to have a white thong & show ya ass apparently..........& thats just the blokes..........!!! Russ
  5. I agree............was of the time I spose, but sounds pretty nasty now..............bears no relevance what so ever to todays NS scene. Russ
  6. Great tune Lee & good luck with it, nice on 7". Russ
  7. Bloody hell...............I was the last person in the world to discover this, spent a fair while sourcing the original 12"............then bugger me a re-release !!!............second time this has happened to me in as many months..........great tune, good luck with this, I'll now file my copy. Russ
  8. Happy Xmas Nik..............PM with any plans for the New Year mate, have a good un buddy . Russ
  9. Sorry, I was being a bit mean really, due to my killer death flu............I just felt that I was really struggling to get my point understood.......I am sorry that I was a bit inpatient. Russ
  10. I'll go halvers with ya mate if need be PM me. He's a nice guy, he'll be in trouble thats what worries me. Russ
  11. yeessssssssssssssssssssssss !!!! Russ
  12. Thats it.................bugger me, been trying to think of it for ages......how daft am I ???????. Russ
  13. Sorry just read my reply & sounds a little terse........have the killer man flu bug, so excuse me for being a little short !!!!. I do appreciate your point mate, its just that the person doing the covering is very unassuming & would be very embarrassed about it, I have now made it into more than what it is. Russ
  14. God... ..........this is like pulling teeth, in the instance Im speaking of, I have gone to great lengths already to explain, that no one is making any great claims about rareity or whether the records are gonna go big, they probably wont, also I have already mentioned that some of these records wouldnt be impossible to find at a reasonable price either with a bit of effort & I would be extremely suprised if they were totally unknown, altho' your average Joe probably wouldnt be aware of them................the only reason some of the records are being covered is to stop a certain person from jumping on the band wagon locally. I think I have put that quite clearly now. Russ
  15. With the particular issue Im speaking of, some of the records would be available with a little effort & no one is suggesting that these are potentially huge Nighter sounds or future classics, they're just good solid soul dance records, I spose they're 'secret sounds' to stop said person just being lazy, it does piss you off when it happens all the time I would imagine, by the same person too...............I know that the person who has an ocasional secret sound has actually been quite open with others with regard to artists etc, its just the one leach.............. Russ
  16. I know a DJ locally who covers 45's, that are not massively rare, but reasonably unknown, they have put a lot of effort in to finding them, one particular person is constantly behind the decks checking out the discs & lo & behold next thing you know, its 'thier' choon...........this practice locally is done entirely to thwart that particular person...............we all want to share, but when you put a huge amount of time into finding records that are a little different to the usual in an attempt to make your sets stand out its really poo when this happens............especially when they will not credit the person who did all the leg work & even play the record out at a night before they can even if on the same bill...........I agree with what happens to stop em getting hold of em too soon, altho I share all my info with close friends if they do the same. Russ
  17. That Yate thing really was weird to me..............could actually really throw you off the beat when dancing............anyone else remember this, I describe it as an echo, but I know others called it something else.............????. Russ
  18. ................! Russ
  19. I actually find myseld dong it to Modern Soul too, if the break is there.............I sometimes do a 'silent' clap if Im feeling self conscious............ Its instinctive to do the claps, you just cant help it.............. Russ
  20. les Watson is the absolute bollox............buy it now...............wanted THE version of CC forever it seems, but wrong time of year for me............unless you wanna trade of course . Russ
  21. I love clapping when it is done in the right places............even when a record is being played out for the first time, you know instinctively where the claps are............it is a dieng art...........as like a lot of people with the tricks when dancing, they seem to have no idea when to do them !!!.........at Yate they would do the 'echo' too...........when you were at other nighters it could get quite confusing if they were doing this.........kinda threw ya !!!. There was/is nothing like hearing that one almighty 'gun shot' of a clap, in the right place, everyone in unison.........shivers up the spine & the sure knowledge that your all on the same groove together.............. Russ
  22. I know Joan..........when I asked why, I was told that many writers would send there songs to be done in different styles........this is a real howler tho'. I wonderd how many soul fans seaching for WC had found this & before hearing it thought they had found an unknown NS thumper . Russ
  23. I'm a soul snob & put me down for one of those lovely hats too............. Russ
  24. Can you enlighten us please, as I thought William Cummings was in the horn section of the Zeke & the Soul Setters, didnt realise he was a regualar vocalist........... Any info would be very much appreciated. Thank you Russ
