  1. Who you calling old???? As for my crimes.....perhaps they should stay locked up with my other skeletons.....far too many letters flying around just lately...
  2. Shouldn't have told me that......won't feel as guilty if I don't pay you for your services now...
  3. Bidds is going fine and dandy mate (next one next week - Friday 16th Sept...plug time!) and works well within it's PEL before any tossers get any ideas! Will have to get you down there DJing next year mate if ya fancy it?
  4. It's called 'Grandfathering' as it is passed down based on previous info/restrictions etc and so named on a comparison to the idea that a Grandfather would pass his knowledge/experience etc onto his son, then his grandson etc...(if you get me drift) Maybe the Club was working outside it's original PEL restictions, especially if in a remote area....wouldn't be the first eh? A dodgy letter may have an effect on the owner/managers in such a case, especially with the new licenses being scrutinised at the present time. Just a thought like....
  5. Is this a type of scooter???? Sorry to add a bit of humour to such a serious thread, but think we all need to show these tw@ts that we won't be beaten by their c*ntish tricks
  6. Very dubious Phil. Sorry to hear it.....hope you get it sorted mate

    ncs stoke soul night

Had a few comments regarding my shortened mobile number on flyer. Blaming Chris for error on artwork cuz he wants everybody to phone him so he feels popular. Full number if need to contact me is 07759045427. Regards, Mace.
  8. Thats the bunny. Not bad version. Slightly slower tempo if I remember correctly?
  9. Yeah - I've seen/heard other version - think Killer sold one for about £30 up the Hideaway but can't remember who by or label name? (yellow label I think) Has anyone heard Elaine Dunn 'If my teardrops could talk' also on capitol. Very similar in style, written by McCoy and arranged by H B Barnum? Very nice tune
  10. Think Warren won a Gloria Gray off ebay the other night.
  11. Still got it mate. Was gonna send you a gentle reminder .... Well done on Gloria Gray - best get onto esnipe mate, so you can get some sleep in future! Regards, Mace.
  12. Far too many to mention Rick......... Check out this site, it has thousands of tunes on it, though Northern Soul covers many different styles, so some you'll love and others you'll hate. https://www.soulclub.org/ Being as you love Doo Wop I don't suppose you have a spare copy of The Empires 'You're on top girl' knocking about do you??? Worth a try.... As for being unsure about selling it, you could always post it to me for free and if you feel the urge to hear it phone me up and I'll play it down the phone to you.... Everybody on here will tell you not to sell it, unless it's to them for a bargain price, so don't expect any sensible answers on that note!
  13. Sure I saw a Gloria Grey on ebay last night? Great tune...
  14. Rick, our scene is rich with such fantastic tunes, and I think it's fair to say we're probably all very envious of you for finding such an item. Mind you, if I found such a rare record at a local boot fair or garage sale, and was watching the price rise steadily on ebay I'd be humming the bugger too! Best of luck with the auction, though you won't need it Regards Mace.
  15. Tis indeed - he was listed as a DJ at one event as 'The Scouse-Manc'
  16. John is indeed a great guy, and well worth dealing with. Have known him to find other peoples wants that he has never heard himself, decide he likes the tunes himself, but still passes on to the person who wanted it and searches for another for his own collection! How many dealers do you know who would do that.....
  17. I know you were Ken - it's the other loons on here that didn't get your point I have won things from Belgium dealers on these type of auctions (really make us an offer than an auction) and have got things below book prices - though normally I have bought a few different items so could barter for discounted prices. There is a guy from France who sells via auctions in the fairest manner of all. You submit your bid, in £ $ or Euros, and winner takes it (some rarer items do have very reasonable minimum bidds) Have had great bargains from this guy as have been only bidder on some items and won for silly low bidds. Have also lost out on different currency exchanges by a matter of pennies on other items, but that's the way the cookie crumbles eh
  18. Ebay auctions finish at a fixed time so sniping does not extend the auction run time. However, the fact that Manships auctions are extended by last minute bidding is fair in my eyes, as it is exactly the same as the auctioneer shouting 'Any more bidds, going going gone' If gives other bidders time to decide if they want to up their bid or not, and as were all grown adults then its ultimately our decision how high to bid. Some open ended auctions don't work on this principle though - more along the lines that it won't be sold till the seller gets the price he/she wants. Pointless running an auction on that basis, may as well start the auction on a min bid price of what the seller actually wants. I am more doubtful of auctions that have to be increased by a minimun of 10% of the current highest bid.....on a £1000 current bid that's £100 (okay - obvious I know), but I believe that £20 increments are more than fair at this price. Go on, some one tell me if you can afford to up the bid on a £1000 current bid you shouldn't have to worry about £100 here and there....
  19. Makes a Larry Davis original look a bargain at £200+ then....
  20. It is true that most dealers will want top dollar for any item - but most dealers I know (including myself if I had a spare) would sell this for the £100 mark (in fact I'm sure I saw one on a list a few months back for £80. To say there is a steady stream of buyers willing to pay £200 because it has fetched that on ebay is not necessarily true either, as it only take 2 buyers who are willing to pay over the odds to take the selling price to such a level (would be interested on the 3rd, 4th and 5th bidders highest bidds on such items) Also, such auctions may include 'ghost bidders' pushing the price up for the seller (ie if the seller has more than one ID) We all know this happens. How many times have you seen somthing go for silly money on ebay whilst you have a spare second copy. You offer to the second highest bidder, and many times you'll get no reply or an answer along the lines of 'I've just got one off a website' or 'I'm not sure I still want it now' Manships auctions have always been a point of discussion, and a healthy one in my eyes. He recently auctioned the Ascots 'Another day' for over £1000. I've just bought a M- off a well known U.K. dealer (who knows his stuff) for £400. How does that work then...........?
  21. Chris, go onto ebay and forward the email that is apparently from ebay to their ebay spoof email addy, they will tell you if it's from them. Are these alleged transactions showing up (click advanced search, then search by seller name using your ID, then choose completed items, and any items listed in last 30 days should show) Sounds more like a spoof email to me, hoping to divert you to another dodgy website when they ask to to reactivate your account by logging in your original ID and password. Get similar ones all the time telling me my account will be suspended in so many days if I don't log in to reativate it etc.... regards, Mace.
  22. Don't want the centre to be written on - asked for a decent clean centre. I want to remove it to put in another Soul City record in my collection with no centre piece, so not bothered if record I'm taking centre from is trashed as long as centre piece is clean and decent.
  23. Any original U.K. Soul City 45 - only need centre piece so vinyl can be cracked, warped, scratched, snapped etc. Main label can be written on, ripped whatever - just need the centre to be in decent clean condition. Regards, Mace.
  24. I've known people who do it within a matter of weeks. That ain't collecting to me its swapping Makes it very easy to say - 'Ive had it in the past' or 'Used to play that years ago' Suppose some DJs like to constantly play new sets, so can understand that to a point, and some collectors will by on a whim, and then decide they want something else more so have to sell it on. Mind you, there's always the allniter purchase that sounded great through some cheap headphones at 4.30 a.m. but sounds absolute shite at midday the next day....
  25. Ah you say that now Davie lad....... I think most of us vinyl junkies experience the same 'ever expanding boundaries' once we start collecting. It starts off with the ones that cost a couple of quid, to the tenners and onto the fifty quidders...into a slippery slope from then on.....I remember thinking I was off my head for paying £150 For L. Allen many years ago.....and never imagined paying four figures for a record..... Tis a disease is collecting records mate.....
