Deffo released on Fania 45, not got my copy to hand to give number but will dig out and let you know. Not easy to find, but then again no decent latin stuff is easy nowadays. Recently picked up a spare copy of Joe Bataan 'Magic Rose'....but on Uptite not Fania....wasn't even aware it had a release on Uptite...

Not too long to go before our 7th Allnighter at BIDDS in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The last one in April was an absolute blinder, so hoping for more of the same on October 6th. This time we welcome 3 Guest DJs making their debut performance behind the infamous suspended decks... Carl Fortnum & Steve Green have IMMENSE collections, and joined by Killa, they will no doubt serve up some TOP quality tunes. Residents Roger Banks and Des Parker need no introduction....they are the anchormen of Bidds (that said anchor ) and constantly strive to mix new discoveries with established favourites. A couple of worthy additions to the resident line-up include Johnny Beggs and Ted Couldstone. Johnny Beggs was the first DJ to spin Rufus Lumleys' Minneaplis Minesota', a raucous track that is only just getting its deserved recognition on the scene...he blew Bidds apart with a right good mix of genres at the April nighter.. expect to hear some latin and boogaloo chucked into his set for good measure. Ted is usually more well known for his highly respected sets on the R&B circuit....but he proved a man of many talents, when his 6.00 a.m. spot of uptempo dancers in April sent the dancefloor into a proper frenzy...he proved a very hard act to follow! Then there's little old me......well as Shawn Elliot once said...'theres always a Joker, in the pack.....' The venue is ideal, the music is varied but equally wonderfull, the record bar is very, very busy, and with Lindas smiling face to greet you and relieve of of just 10 of your hard earned pounds, you know you gotta agree...this is one nighter you really shouldn't miss..... Anyhows...enough of my rambling and tedious hype...full details below. Go on...you know it makes sense..... Saturday 6th October 2007 BIDDS Rare Soul ALLNIGHTER Sutherland Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs. DJ's - Carl Fortnum, Steve Green, Roger Banks, Des Parker, Mace Killa, Johnny Beggs, Ted Couldstone. 9.00 p.m. - 7.00 a.m. with a very late bar! Though Rock'n'Roll Heaven on Orange Street may not have much stock of interest to Soulies it might still be worth a visit for you Callum. Knowing your taste, you may still be able to pick up a few nice bits of R&B, Mod Jazz, popcorn etc. It's over 12 years since I went in the place, and was told not to bother prior to my visit, but picked up lots of lesser known Duke and Peacock stuff with loads of original 'Unicorn' duke sleeves etc. Not sure how shop is laid out now, but the boxes on display were pretty much full of crap...delve underneath and there were loads of storage boxes full of more oddball stuff. Then get yerself down to Wet'n'Wild and have a go on that vertical drop slide where you stand in a rocket(?) or summit with your arms crossed and the floor drops away to send you plummeting....yer trunks will be 99% up yer arse by the time you come to a stop! -
I was wondering if you'd post about this Dazz. Remember having a conversation with you about this a while ago. Must admit it seems harder to find than Minit copy. P.S. there is a proper copy of a certain Doowop/Soul 45 on ebay tonight...(your old Profiles cover up).....not going for it meself, so if you fancy it....

Although this title has been issued twice, the first release(Monument 861) is not the same tune (as I stated in my pevious post) The ONLY one to buy is 961.

Used to go for £80 - £100 but seen it gor for a lot less on ebay recently. Reckon you'll pick one up for £50. make sure you buy Monument 961 with 'Baby the magic is gone' on flip...NOT 861 which although has same title of 'Let the fool kiss you' is a completely different tune and is pants. If you plan on selling futher records on ebay, and they have no distinguishable marks on label or vinyl to identify if returned, then use a pin or needle to make a tiny prick mark on flipside label, in the centre of a tiny letter on label text such as 'o' or in centre of number such as '6' etc.and make a note of it before sending off. If someone is gonna try ripping you off by swapping with crappier copy, they can scratch in identical initials etc on deadwax of shitty copy...they can't imitate what they don't know about Mace.

It might be valued at £100+ but its a very hard record to sell though.....I sold a copy for about £50 a year or so ago...it still took 6 months to sell at that price though.

Got a great Cotique 45 by Chollo Rivera & Latin Soul Drivers called 'Black & Blues.' Think Beggsy used to give it the odd spin, though not sure if he used to play the more soulful flip 'I could never hurt you girl' Beggsy played a great set which included lots of Latin & Boogaloo stuff at the last Bidds Allnighter at about 5 a.m., and hoping for more of the same from him on October 6th..

Mr Basset did very well indeed (a hero of his time perhaps), but lots of the latin stuff was filtering through the clubs in Brum long before it got aired on the rallies..Jon Kelly (Brum one not the Scouse Manc one ) & Pid were spinning loads of it. Rick from Chichester was picking up on stuff like Pete Terrace etc and bringing new latin stuff up to Brum every weekend... Dave Ingle from Loughborough was also turning up loads of quality unknown latin tunes at the time. Great times....

It did indeed....until every imagineable track released on Tico/Cotique/Fania/Barry/Uptite and the like got played to death and somewhat killed it in it's tracks. Dom Bassett......last saw him many years ago at the Underground do in Skeggy.....anyone know if he is he still about?

Yup....count me in Great stuff, as long as it doesn't get overkill like it did 'back in the day' Quality latin tracks are starting to pack dancefloors again...and not just the obvious stuff...top banana
