  1. To be honest, the '6Ts' mod scene and the Scooterists scene are quite different scenes (though a lot closer now than they were in the late 80s early 90s) It would take 20 pages and a 1000 posts to even touch on that subject and you'd be none the wiser and very bored with it all Birmingham has always had a very healthy Mod scene though, probably much more healthy than the Northern scene in Brum.
  2. Is that what you tell your missus then Callum?
  3. Definately African... North or South..................?
  4. Are you referring to Common or Unknown Sillibobs?
  5. Doesn't the fact that you as a soulie are going to see Jam tribute bands show that the link obviously exists? You'd have to go back further than the 70s to see the original link of course.....the 60s mod scene quite obviously played a part in the way the Northern scene originally started. The '79, and subsequent revivals during the Britpop periods etc were always going to result in Mods exploring the 6Ts soul scene, it was as much a part of their scenes history as it is of yours. Didn't the 100 Club start as a 6Ts Rhythm & Soul club that was heavilly populated by mods? I also recall Dave Evison once telling me he got nicked once for syphoning petrol for his scooter, in fact I had to haul my Vespa Sportique onto a stage at the venue for his 50th Birthday party to dress the stage with posters of Wigan & the Torch etc. It's always been there.....but most people only seem to associate the mod scene with target laden fishtail parkas and mirror covered scooters.
  6. I initially read your opening post as a debate between the attraction of rarer, obscure tunes against cheaper more easily accessible tracks. I now read it as though the rare tracks you are less fussed about are the top 500 overplayed oldies etc, and the cheaper tunes are unknowns/semi-knowns. Somewhat ambiguous posting methods, but I deffo agree with your later comments....wonder if Webbydublin still agree with you mind
  7. Don't disagree, which is why I used the word 'Built' and not 'Founded' Also, as the 'rarest' record on this scene happens to be an overplayed Motown track, it kinda makes a mockery of those that spout out the old 'it's only rare cus it's shite and never sold' chestnut...don't you think?
  8. I didn't miss the word 'sometimes' out, because I didn't specifically quote you did I? Whilst you have a valid point as to the early days and playlists from the Wheel, do you honestly believe this scene would be where it is today if playlists were restricted to known and easily available tunes such as Motown, Stax and Atlantic etc (as good as they may be)? Of course rarity does not equate quality, neither does the opposite. Records usually become rare/expensive due to demand outstripping supply...and shite records will always be shite records, regardless of quantity they were pressed in. Not being arsey btw...I just get fed up off hearing the 'Rare cus they are shite and never sold' and 'Emperors New Clothes' statements that get bandied about on here so often.....
  9. God not this old chestnut.....it's rare cus it's shite... Cus this whole scene was built around playing all the popular, and widely commercially available music of the day wasn't it.....
  10. Or how about a head count for all those who have records delivered to address's other than their own to keep it from the missus....I've had a few request it when posting stuff out (with a variety of somewhat dubious reasons for doing so), but don't worry lads, your secrets safe with me
  11. Can anyone help me find a discography for the BUMPS label ('Bumps' Blackwells label). Also interested in any oddball 45s released on this label (I already have the Jimmy Phillips and Peaches 45s.) Please P.M. me if so, as I'm gonna close the thread to prevent it turning into a major discussion about the Jimmy Phillips release that everybody wants Regards Mace
  12. I've got an lovely ex condition promo... P.M. what you wanna offer. Regards Mace
  13. Sell 'em all off so me kids can p*ss it up the wall. Well they are only bits of round plastic all said and done
  14. Always loved it.
  15. Might be willing to get shut of mine for a decent enough offer. White promo in VG+ (7/10) condition, with 'Bricks' label stuck slightly off centre by 5mm, record is not pressed off centre, just the label, and it plays excellent. One blue cross on 'Bricks' side label in felt tip on right hand side of label. P.S. it's the slightly rarer promo with Parish spelt with one R instead of 2 P.M. me your offer if interested. Regards Mace

  18. No mate, I'm at Lifeline. Btw not wanting to alarm you, but your £25 debt is amassing huge interest on an hourly rate, it's currently @ £1784.32
  19. Either your keyboards fcuked or cat's got your tongue..... Otherwise go to the home page and follow the instructions under heading 'How to post/reply & quote'
  20. Lost for words then?
  21. Speak up lad
  22. Reminded me of when I won a spare promo of this in a '40 x 45 lot' on ebay a few years back for $60 inc shipping.....no pic of records and it was mixed in with lots of stuff like Spice Girls 45s Had to take all the 45s as seller had prepacked 'em. Was half expecting it to be the white boot as I anxiously flitted through them upon arrival, but nope, luck was on my side again .
  23. Hi Dennis, might still have one of these knocking about somewhere....though I've got a feeling that Ted might have had it off me in trades a few months back (which is ironic seen as I got if off Linda about 4 years ago )
  24. I believe a large percentage of people end up falling into personal comfort zones, like soggy sponges they seem able to absorb a certain amount until they are happy with their lot and want to keep it that way. Nowt wrong with that of course, until they start to critisize those who are still hungry for more unknowns. Nobody expects everybody to like everything, do what you do and enjoy it, those of us that want something different will do the same regardless, emperors new clothes or not.
  25. Suppose if you take in account ebay final sales fees and paypal fees then I suppose pricing it up as $500 cash at a show is as attractive a deal as $625 buy it now on ebay (which as I said, never reached bids higher than $160)....knowing Pete at the end of the show, you probably got it for around $250-$300....I had some beauties off him for $4 each at A'town I know of a Betty Everett for sale in U.K for £800 so even $500 would have been a bargain mate.
