  1. Most sound systems in Northern events are piss poor to begin with, so you never notice VG records played over 'em anyway! Once heard Dave Evison play something really crackly & hissy and then announce it was recorded in a downtown Detroit chip shop.....
  2. Johnny Beggs was involved in making a dance record in 1990 that sampled the main intro from Peanut Duck called 'Check me at the top'. It's a totally mad but infectious record...not Northern of course. A few record companies showed interest at the time, but nothing ever materialised with it...one company sent Beggsy a letter saying all the office staff were bouncing around like lunatics when they played it:lol: Even more bizzare, some-one told Johnny they heard it played in a clothes shop in London a year os so back...and the girl working in the shop was singing it word for word.
  3. £250 - £300 is about the right money for Ann Caudell. Ted and Linda Couldstone used to sell this for £30!
  4. Both hard records to find nowadays Rich. I've got both, but not ready to part with either just yet. Will give you a shout if I ever decide to let either go in the near future. Regards Mace
  5. PMed ya.....
  6. You did indeed buy a spare off me at a CIS Allnighter a good few years back....it might have been a snip to you, but compared to what I paid for it........well...... Got my own copy off Butch in the early days of Keele for £50 after mithering him to sell it me for months .
  7. Sold my copy last year for £200 (as it had same label both sides) It was in my sales box for all of 3 minutes flat
  8. Not so sure about that to be honest.....the Mod scene has always embraced many different genres of music, with R&B being a major part of that scene. The Mod scene evolved long before the Northern Scene....so you could turn that statement on it's head and ask if there would there be any Northern Soul Scene without the likes of the Twisted Wheel club etc? Who knows?....and more importantly, who actually cares?
  9. $75 is too much. It was fetching £40 a few years back, but £25 is more like it nowadays.
  10. Presume the Big Maybelles listed for $8.25 on GEMM are pressings, as info for label says 'original version' and sure I've seen a thread about these on SS before? Anyways, I've got a Big Maybelle in Ex cond for £20 if you want it Phil. Also got the Freddie North version on Abet, which is an absolutely stunning version IMO.
  11. Simon, it was a pity you didn't make it to Radcliffe on Saturday night. The R&B room was very busy with lots of dancers and a great atmosphere every time I went in there. Surely that's answered your original question then?
  12. Paid $50 for mine (out of a sales box in the boot of some guys car just before Allentown record fair.) To be fair he had $75 on it, but I'm pretty good at haggling
  13. Hi Sean. Darrow arrived today...a lovely clean copy....very happy with it thanks Please P.M. me to advise what nights you usually list your sales up in future, so I can make sure I look in to check out any other cockups bargains

Adam, stop being an argumentative tart. Regardless of where it's played, the facts are that the Up-Down pisses all over the Hull version. Suffice to say, if the Up-Down version had never been released, the Hull copy would probably be a £30 record that no-one could shift. Pete, I've had both versions....I had no problem deciding which was the better record and sold the Hull copy a few days later.

The Up-Down version pisses all over the Hull version Adam. Anymore nonesense from you and I'll have to ask Killa to reduce your dosage....
  17. you beat me to it...was gonna post the same link. $700 for a VG copy....kinell it's going up if owt R&B is dead... R.I.P. R&B
  18. That's the benefit of browsing SS sales at daft o'clock when I should be in bed He who snoozes.....loses
  19. I might be offended...... if it wasn't true
  20. Behave yerself. Your points are valid, and it makes healthy discussion IMO. Promoters should, of course, take on board all valid cristicism (unless it's about the toilets at Bidds ) I just think you've banged on about the Barnsley R&B room a wee bit too much.....the promoters posted replies to your previous comments on the Barnsley lookbacks thread, so it just seems a bit repetitive to start a new thread with that same venue as the catalyst (IMO) Just remember, with a cravat stuffed in your gob down a dark alley....no-one can hear you scream Regards Mace
  21. Hook, line and sinker............
  22. It was very cosy listening to all them big oldies you were playing (that I'd already played downstairs in the main room) Shit, just watched that video of you again, and realised I might have gone too far...
  23. I'll take the Darrow Fletcher 'Infatuation' for £12 Sean
  24. Yep mate, all booked up for March...only going for the show though (Thurs to Sun) Is Shifty going? Anyway, the last thing you need to do is buy more stock when the fcukers aren't paying for the stuff they ordered off ya!!! It should all be in one room mate, except for Crossover, which should be restricted to a designated, well lit comfy corner with leather sofas, storage space for slippers and dressing gowns, and a Horlicks machine in close vacinity
  25. Start the ball rolling then Chris I've got video proof that you can dish out a pretty mean 'Glasgow kiss' if any of those you name come looking for ya!
