  1. This happens all the time when selling at nighters etc. Seems to be totally acceptable at events when selling face to face so I suppose most buyers feel comfortable enough to do it on here. If some-one makes an offer that you are not happy with tell them to ask again in a week or so if it's not sold...up to them to take the chance or not then.
  2. such terrible news. Glen was a really decent guy who will be sadly missed. R.I.P. mate Mace
  3. Reg, we are only on 4 times a year.......you need to get your diary sorted out in advance...our next date is October 16th. Johnny Beggs plays plenty of obscure latin......including a more uptempo, dancefloor friendly cut of this latin version of 'It's better to cry'
  4. As mentioned, lots of quality tunes by Joe Bataan that should get more spins at nighters....though plenty of 'em do at Bidds 'Magic Rose', 'What good is a castle Pt2', 'Too much lovin', 'Good feeling', 'Special Girl', 'Subway Joe' have all graced the swingin' decks in our dark and seedy venue...and always will https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSEH-xGS3K0
  5. Johnny Beggs reckons this is the best portable player he has ever owned...
  6. Was talking to Johnny about some record a few months back, and holding up his fully opened right hand he says.. 'I've only ever see this many copies of that record Mace' 'How many is that exactly?' I replied, with a bemused look and a wry smile 'Two and a half ' he say's....'can't you fcukin count!'
  7. Might need more than one envelope.... Might need more than one shovel come to think about it.... Think Dennis wants to try the guy out with a few probs on his own first , so will get it built up and can bring it Radcliffe in July, or pass it on to Dennis at Hideaway beforehand on the same night if not fixed. I did offer to look at Dennis' but he didn't seem too keen on the idea
  8. Was only talking about this tonight with Dennis (who, in my defense, kept me waiting for 4 weeks for wiring diagrams that ended up being of no use whatsover, probably cus they weren't even soundburger wiring diagrams ) Gotta be honest, it's not looking good mate, got it in a million pieces and haven't got a clue how to rebuild it. Good news is my son has used some of the parts with his lego collection and made a cracking crane using the stylus arm......clouds and silver linings eh
  9. Funnily enough, the last trip resulted in 3 bag searches prior to boarding the plane because of the fcuker They never found all the class A drugs I'd hidden in me undercrackers though, so happy days (Just joking in case any smart arse customs officer is reading this and decides to pop my arse cherry next trip )
  10. You can buy a mini-amplifier that plugs inline between the phones and the player to increase sound levels (Adam showed me one a few months back...think they cost about £15), though a decent pair of headphones should also do the trick (instead of using the cheapo ones you nicked off your last holiday flight ) I have an oddball Kasuga '3in1' portable player that I got off ebay for about £40. The turntable is similar to a soundburger set up, but with a radio and cassette player added on....get lots of folk stopping me to take photos of it when I'm in the states........'kin weirdos
  11. Be good to see you after all these years pal
  12. Not at all mate, was deffo Karl Rhodes who first played it on the soul scene as far as I'm aware. Seem to recall him filling the floor with it at Lifeline and Middleton
  13. I did indeed, but pretty sure I only gave you 20p and a sloppy kiss Have had a few copies over the last 2 years, in fact I sold my last one to Steve Hiscock just a month or so ago for £40 or thereabouts.
  14. Only just found out about this as only just got back off me hols. Stunned at such sad news, a lovely guy indeed. Condolences to all his family. R.I.P Max
  15. ...wasn't off ebay mind....out the boot of some guys car in Pennsylvania..... Think my best bargain off ebay was probably Herb Ward 'Strange Change' mixed in with a load of Spice Girls 45s and other assorted crappy pop records. Seller had prepacked 'em all prior to auction end so had to take the lot. Anyone chasing any Spice Girls 45s feel free to send me a P.M.
  16. Probably around £150 nowadays. It did used to fetch a lot more about 5 years or so ago.
  17. B&$t&rd$...I never find fcukall..... That Big Maybelle is a tuff one on a white promo mind.
  18. Mike, You seem to be taking my comments as though I am laying any blame on your doorstep. This is not the intention, but highlighting that for allnighters, especially larger promotions, to succeed, then all the promoters need to talk to each other. I'm not really bothered who iniates the conversation to be honest, but moreso that it happens across the scene. Of course your event should be taken into account, it is a large established event on the allnighter calender. For that reason alone I'd have thought contacting other promoters to discuss what plans they have was essential. I'd be ringing/P.M.ing every promoter going if I was running a regular allnighter of the size of Glos......it certainly doesn't bother me to mither every fcuker Just my opinion like...free to take, free to leave...... Regards Mace
  19. £120+ for an Ex copy mate.
  20. Mike, Apologies for getting the figures incorrect, I had heard you had 400 in the previous nighter and 240 in this one, hence the calculation of 160. Of course there will always be something on the same weekend, this is totally unavoidable. You are also in an unenviable position of having to avoid local soul nights as well as national allnighters, as your event attracts both crowds........so by running a promotion with a rare room as well as a main 'across the board' room you are having to avoid two seperate calenders as such. I obviously don't have this issue with Bidds, I have very few locals, with 95% travellers, so it's easier for me to avoid nighters that will damage me most, without having to worry about local soul nights that have little or no impact Of course things crop up, Groovesville was also on last saturday and took 15 - 20 off my attendance at Bidds. I totally agree that it isn't your responsibility to move your dates if other promotions 'pop up' after your dates have been fixed. Des has already asked me for Bidds 2011 dates this week as he know you are planning yours. I don't usually book my dates for the next year till October, which gives me a good chance to see what else is on the calender. However, when I booked Bidds for last weekend (May 8th) your event wasn't listed up as far as I can remember, and Des certainly has had my dates since October. Des phoned me a few months ago to tell me that your nighter was going to be on the same weekend as Bidds and asked how we could prevent any damage to either event (as far as the rare room was concerned)......as part of that discussion he gave me his word he would not use any of my resident DJs (except for himself of course, as he runs the room) so there would be less similarities between your Rare Room and Bidds the following night. I could of course, have dropped Des from my line-up for the Saturday, but he didn't seem too keen on that idea Anyway, besides booking Johnny Beggs as his 'mystery guest' , he otherwise pretty much kept to his word. My point being, if not already in place, you do need to open communications with as many other allnighter promoters as possible, especially with the size of your promotion. When there is a clash, even if over a weekend rather than the same night, there will never be any winners. Regards Mace
  21. Hi Mike. The music policy in the main room probably has lot to do with the lower attendance in the second room If the main room is playing a good cross section of tunes to satisfy most of the crowd then it is not hard to understand why folk will drift to the bigger busier room. Out of interest, which events on the same night do you think had an impact on you? You say the rare room at the first one was packed, but you had an extra 160+ bodies in the building on that event, so it stands to reason that you will get more bodies in the rare room. Do you hoenstly think the other events on that friday night took 160+ folk off your attendance? At the end of the day you are running a nighter that needs at least 350+ to fill both rooms on a Friday night. That is a helluva crowd to pull on a Saturday in the Midlands/Northwest, let alone a Friday in Glos (and I don't mean that disrespectfully) If there is anything else that folk want to attend over the same weekend then you are gonna struggle to pull in so many bodies IMO. My personal view is that you need to consider what else is on the same weekend across the whole country....if you want folk to travel 100+ miles on a friday when there is a big nighter on the Saturday then you might well find the numbers levelling off at 200 - 250, which would therefore impact your second room moreso than your main room. If this is the case then you have to consider the costs of running the second room, and the damage that low attendances might have on putting off any folk who are travelling down for the second room again in the future. You probably already have your dates booked for next year. If so I would take a good look at the other national allnighters over the same weekend, and if you think that they are gonna take a good number of the die-hard travellers off you, then maybe you need to reconsider the second room on that date. There may be a few folk telling you to go ahead and do it all the same, but it's not their hard earned cash they are losing if it fails to attract enough people, it's yours. If it's a relatively quiet weekend then go for it....though I know they are rarely available. Regards Mace
  22. Best wait another month til Oct 16th or you'll be on your own mate
