  1. Des Parkers first name is actually Quentin. He is somewhat embarressed by his first name, so years ago asked Beggsy to give him a new first 'nickname' The 'Des' is actually short for 'Desperate' (not Desmond as you might presume) Beggsy decided this was a good name cus 'Des' would DJ at the opening of an envelope if asked. Not a lot of people know that
  2. Hi John, don't think I'll be at J17 this Sat as we have planned to go to the 'Dyslexics Of Soul' Niter Hopefully catch you at the next one in October
  3. Vivian Carol - Oh yeah yeah yeah on Merben. DJ announcing it at end of play also gives the game away

Thanks, that mix was actually put together over 18 months ago as a giveaway CD I did for the Pow Wow Club. Gonna be doing a new one for Chris soon to put on his show Not got 'Red Lips' sorry...either flat or vase shaped Anyone else after an ashtray of Marty Hill.....open to offers
  6. Try LONGY on here. He might have sold it now, but he did have a spare a few weeks back. Regards Mace

Well, I would have been able to help you out with a nice promo of Marty Hill if I hadn't tried to stupidly remove an edge warp (that didn't actually affect play) over a steaming kettle yesterday and turned it into a funky ashtray..... Don't suppose you smoke do you?
  8. Daz, I'd heard a rumour you have finally seen the light and decided to begin collecting Rare Soul, R&B and Latin. No better start than clearing out the oldies to free up some finances....well done sir
  9. Jocko, whilst I tend to agree with most of you posts, I gotta say, you really are talking out of your arse with this statement. It's a fantastic slab of boogaloo and you know it. Regardless of wether you like latin or not, there is no way you can describe it as sh*t. It always rocks the dancefloor. Will have to tell Mikey Collins to give you a much deserved slap next time he sees you
  10. Missed your post mate, but I can pretty much guarantee I would see the funny side as I'm twisted like that
  11. I saw a programme recently that compared % growth of gold/property and vintage wine over the last 30 years or so, and vintage wine came out on top (though gold had a higher increase in the most recent years) Should imagine results would be different if Rare Records (not just soul) were to be included in the survey over the same period?
  12. I've stated before on here, I would love to see them perform these tracks live in a small hot sweaty club, along with plenty of other latin tracks, including their own material if they do it. I imagine they would be a great act for one of the weekenders.....but I don't want to hear it played out at a club instead of Bobby Valentin. If the Commitments, or a similar style Soul tribute band released a version on something like 'This is my rainy day' would it be played out rather than the Parliaments cus it's cheap and available? I think (or rather hope) not.....
  13. £500 is probably it's money Chalks Same with Hector Rivera. Though as I've said before, any good quality latin boogaloo stuff is hard to find. Even stuff that's not well known can fetch 3 figures if it's good, so stands to reason that a such an instant killer boogaloo track that has crossed over onto the Northern Scene has fetched so much. My only gripe is having to put up with Mick H calling it Salsa. Bet that cnut eats mincemeat every day
  14. but steak is soooo much better
  15. ...but........The Los Fulanos version is nowhere near as good as Bobby Valentin Why eat mince meat when you can have steak
  16. In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
  17. Isn't this just another 'Oldies Vs Newies' thread
  18. Bob sold his Danny Owens straight away for £600.
  19. Don't know who won it mate. Wasn't me for sure cus my lucky bid of $25 didn't register this time
  20. Callum I reckon you won OJ and came second on RD? Am I right and if so do I win a prize?
  21. I wanted a record, I wanted it bad, I'd searched for the fcuker Since I was a lad, I found one on ebay, After such a long hunt So laid down a snipe But got outbid by some cnut!
  22. Pretty sure Dig Deeper isn't that weekend. Michael Robinson 'Pomonkey' on here will also be able to give you some tips as to whats on that weekend. I'm planning on being over there the same weekend but flights are stupid prices at moment (though do seem to be falling in last week or so) Continental currently £425 from Manchester to Newark for late Sept/early Oct...was £550+ a few weeks back! Usually around £350ish for this time of year.
  23. The U.K. Tamla copy was released around '79. It was certainly an anthem on the Scooter Scene mid-80s (when I first started going scooter rallies etc), and should imagine well before that on the Northern Scene. Are you referring to non-soulies as such, because it certainly became known my lot's more folk outside the scene through media attention to the price he paid for it. Or maybe that it became a KFC anthem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUfAYAQdCck&feature=PlayList&p=D53AEC9EA1141D89&playnext=1&index=7
  24. Bollox....heard there was a kebab going begging only to find out I'm too late. Actually, I found a £10 note a few weeks ago in a local carpark......mind you, all the local kebab shops were shut at the time and before they opened up for evening trade my missus had got her dirty mits on it and wasted it on the kids
