  1. You'd scare me kids to death if you stayed at ours.....anyway, come to the niter then you won't need a bed. I knew it was you cus of a few things you posted under your new ID... First, was the comment you recently posted on having the Carl Underwood 45 many moons ago when Roger still had it covered....kinnell, you've been dining out on that story for the last 20 years or so Secondly, you started the Gold Fania thread and mentioned that you passed on that Ray Barretto 45 to Carl and had never seen one since. Thirdly, I'm sure you used the same avatar under your old ID. Lastly, and most importantly, we all post plenty of shite on here....you have a certain way of 'delivering' yours...almost like a fingerprint So when are we gonna see you out and about me 'owd mucka......Hideaway Saturday, then onto Radcliffe? Go on, you know you want to, and you can always rewind the bluey and microwave the horlicks when you get home. Keep well pal, Regards Mace
  2. Mossy, you're never gonna travel out to events again, so stop kidding yourself! Horlicks and a good bluey for you kidda
  3. Is there an event called 'Broken Bottles', or are you guys referring to 'Empty Bottles'? I presume it's named after the record by 'Little Oscar', not 'Dean Parrish' if that helps to get it right.....
  4. In regards to the Uptite label, how rare is the release of Joe Bataans 'Magic Rose' on this label credited to Naatab?
  5. If a record is an 'underplayed oldie' can I presume it that it never took off, or got the plays or recognition it deserved in the day, regardless of the fact that it was probably a quality tune. So are todays spins from the rare scene DJs, tomorrows underplayed oldies? Surely there's a lesson to be learned here An example of this, is that someone well into the oldies side of the scene recently told Johnny Beggs that he used to hate most of the stuff that was played at The Raven in Whitchurch many moons ago, but admitted that most of those tunes he disliked, or didn't know back then, have since become massive records over subsequent years and now well established and respected on the oldies scene. So you'd think, that by admitting to fail to see the attraction of such great tunes back then, he'd now have the foresight to check out what's happening on the rarer side of the scene. Nope, not a chance.
  6. An average of 3 or 4 bookings a week Presume you mean doing 2 or more gigs on the same night. Christ, I bet he gets cold sweats and a nervous twitch every time he hear that record nowadays Charging for photos would have been a killer idea, or maybe getting 1500 people to sponser him a tenner each to melt the fcuker down might have given him quicker results, and maybe prevented his now regular nightmares of watching that record spinning on a deck
  7. Do you honestly believe that Ian, cus most DJ bookings result in payment that only just about covers travelling costs and a few drinks, if you're lucky maybe a hotel room and meal. I doubt many, if any, of Kennys bookings resulted in him making any decent profit to chip away at the original outlay for that record. He probably did get loads of bookings on the back of it, and I bet he ended up getting mighty p*ssed off at taking up most weekends being inundated with DJing at every corner of the country at every oldies event imaginable.......bet his life was like Groundhog Day for the first 6 months at least
  8. I think you might be going stir-crazy sat at your p.c. pondering such like... You really need to get out more Ian
  9. Theres a substantial but incomplete listing on link below....plus lots of discogs for other Latin labels... https://reynaldo82.blogspot.com/2009/02/partial-fania-45-discography-additions.html
  10. At the moment, yes, but in years to come I think this will most likely go the other way. If that is the case, there will probably never be a lack of buyers for good quality rare records. Also, I think the original poster was probably referrring to records in the value of hundreds, not thousands, and I think plenty of those price bracket 45s are going to Europe and beyond nowadays.
  11. You have a fair point in regards to the U.K. scene, but there are lots of younger collectors & DJs abroad, especially Europe, who obviously have plenty of disposable income and are paying top dollar for big money rarities and have a lot longer life in 'em than most the OAPs in this country
  12. Think there is a new series of American pickers starting next monday. The last series was well worth watching. Also worth a look are the shows 'Pawn Stars' and 'Hardcore Pawn', both about US pawn shops that are doing thriving business in the current economy. Some of the stuff that gets brought in the shops is bizzarre!

  14. Ted, as I said on Saturday, I'm pretty sure it's 45 days, but double check. If so, open a dispute on the 43rd day, which then allows something like 2 weeks for the matter to be resolved. Let the seller know this before doing so, as a courtesy, cus it seems as though he/she has sent the parcel. Hopefully, the record will arrive before the end of the 2 weeks, otherwise you will have to escalate the dispute to a claim. Only ever had this problem buying latin stuff from countries such as Chile/Argentina/Mexico, where shipping can take up to 6weeks+ for some reason.......which can sometimes go over paypals 45 days deadline. Made the mistake of not opening the dispute once as the seller assured me it would arrive a few days later and got fcuked over, so I always open the dispute after 43 days now.
  15. If you read the description in full it says... 70S 2ND ISSUE OF THESE CURRENT MONSTER SOUND WITH COPIED ORIGINAL LABELS LOOKS LIKE THE REAL THING REALLY CONVINCING Take that to mean the white label boot with photocopied labels pasted on
  16. Mark, can you post me some more flyers please....... down to me last few which will be going out @ Bidds tonight....Beggsy has also taken some to Cleethorpes .
  17. I can never understand why folk have to hark back at the old venues of yesteryear as a reference to what should be happening today? Of course things have changed, but so what. Most folk who prefer to attend the Rare/Upfront/Underplayed/Something different (call it what you like) events will accept the different genres and enjoy the nights for what they are, in all their flavours. These are the people that make the scene imo, those that constantly moan and bicker from p.c. keyboards don't. I'm no big fan of cross-over and post 60s stuff, but on occassion attend such events and generally have a good time cus I accept and enjoy the night for what it is. It's surprising how many people have entered the soul scene with open ears but end up trading them in for the much preferred set of blinkers.....
  18. Gotta admit that I've always thought the same Pete. The Rose Mitchell is indeed very rare, but not a patch on the Jo Ann Henderson version imo...and even though the JAH has been hammered to death over the last 5+ years it still sounds great out loud in a small'n'sweaty R&B club Useless on LPs, but didn't the Rose Mitchell get comped on some MFP Lp or the like?
  19. Saturday 22nd October 2011 BIDDS Rare Soul ALLNIGHTER Rare Soul, R&B and Latin. BIDDS Main Room Sutherland Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent Staffs ST3 1JB 10pm - 7am £10 pay on door DJ's....... 20. Very tough record to find Matt.....being after it for a long time and never had a sniff of one
  21. Nice copy on ebay at the moment....think it finishes tomorrow night
  22. Expect to pay following for Ex condition copies..... Danny Owens £500+ Otis Blackwell £300+ Both tough to find and both very indemand 45s, especially on the R&B and Mod scenes.
  23. The Harvey Averne is really indemand at the moment though Rob....so supply and demand outweigh true rarity / value. I only paid £180 for my VG copy of Cashmeres off Des Parker a few years ago, and it plays great
  24. That particular Romance Watson 45 is indeed a terrible record, but I have to disagree when you say he can't sing. Check out his vocals with the local GodSquad on the Youtube link below...he kicks in at 1.52 mins. No, this ain't a 'scene' record either (unless you're into the Sally Army )......but I think you should seriously reconsider the 'can't sing' comment, if only for the lightning bolt being aimed at you at this very moment in time
  25. Surely a bargain price for a quality piece of Rhythm'n'Soul, and worth every penny for the flip alone... btw...no conditions on any of the description...shape up youth...
