  1. Buying something nice with the proceeds then Callum........
  2. Methinks Linda ain't gonna be too impressed with that comment.......
  3. Even more stumped now. Which upfront events?
  4. Well there's usually a lot more people at an oldies event...so the law of averages is stacked against them for starters. Plus such events get more media coverage, especially the larger events, so they will also attract more 'handbaggers' so to speak, than a rare soul event. I suppose it's part and parcel of commercialising the scene, but at the mainly oldies allnighters I've been to (Kings Hall for example) I've not seen such problems, so was wondering where exactly this is becoming such a big issue? Some folk will no doubt feel awkward about listing venues because of upsetting the promoters, but if it ain't addressed it ain't gonna be fixed.
  5. Anton, is this mainly on the oldies circuit, cus I haven't seen any such violence at nighters but obviously don't go mainy oldies niters. Then again, it could've been happening but I've been that newted I ain't noticed Where exactly is this becoming such a problem?
  6. You can hear Miks 45 copy on his Jester Wild mix.....so let us know if you can hear owt different between the 2. Callum played the LP at NWO recently, but I was fairly newted so couldn't be sure of any difference.
  7. I'm sure I have seen the track on a reissue LP on ebay a few years back, cus I definately remember mentioning it to Mik at Radcliffe one night. It may have been an original LP and the seller listed it incorrectly, and I certainly can't recall sleeve design (not one for buying LPs). Sure Mik also told me the LP was a different cut to the 45...is this correct ?
  8. You may mock Mr Dyson.....but you know my new book will sell like hotcakes...or was it oatcakes? No matter....cus me and Beggsy would win anyway...... he's obviously the fittest fcuker amongst us all, and would simply drag me around the field after him.
  9. Suppose it also depends on what you paid for them......seems to me that anyone who bought 5 -10 years back when prices were at a peak, are obviously gonna feel somewhat miffed at even a 50% dealer offer, if trying to sell nowadays...so a 33% would be a shocker.
  10. Surely you'd be best typing up a full list and sending to all the main dealers. Shifty is still after buying decent collections, and even though he's a shandy drinker southerner it would be worth getting quotes from all and sundry... Good luck with you sale
  11. Leisurebowl/Jollies and Princess Suite were all part of same building above Longton Bus Station Geese.
  12. Might well have been a nighter that I went to......memory ain't what it was.....
  13. Can't even remember DJing at that Starsound Allnighter @ The Princess Suite on the above flyer....but that must be the only flyer I've ever seen with my full name rather than my nickname. John Cope on that same flyer may have been the guy with the TV shop in Tunstall and knocked about with Clowsey?
  14. Just been directed to this pic of me outside Shelleys circa 1985......christ I must never have eaten fcuk all! Made up for it since mind...
  15. You should have mentioned this from the off pal. This should be ideal for 'em.....
  16. I remember thinking it was odd after I'd sent him the package and he reposted his missing list a few days later and some of those still listed were in the package I'd sent...think I even pmed him to question if he'd received package cus of reposted list.... but not sure I ever got a reply. No biggie, probably only cost me a few bucks each all told, but wouldn't do it again unless it's some-one I know. Can't imagine him running a modern night with the list he posted...mainly R&B and Ska from what I remember. Got a few good mates up there...will ask a few questions see if anybody knows him....
  17. Bollox, thought I recognised the name when I saw it.......I felt sorry for the guy and sent him about 8 records, nowt rare but a few £30 - £40 records that I had a few copies of, and the rest 10 - 15 quidders. Don't think I ever had so much as a thanks off him. Live and learn eh!
  18. I sold my acetate to Longy....I've also got a red & white Jetstream copy that doesn't indicate it's a promo, so presume it's an issue. Flynny also had 2 copies of the acetate. Pretty sure Matt Weingarden has a Jetstream copy, and there's 2 showing on popsike, which may or may not be your or Matts. Anymore for anymore.
  19. CBS is Columbia Broadcasting System. The "Columbia" part of CBS's name comes from Columbia Records.
  20. That's what I meant......CBS / RCA......fcukin dyslexia getting the better of me again..... Plus the orange label added to the confusion.....
  21. Paul, if the reissue was formatted on a CD single, then I imagine the licensing costs would be the same as a 7" single, and the production costs must be cheaper for a CD than a vinyl record ? I've never bought many CDs to be honest, but seem to recall some well packaged 4 or 6 track CDs on the Joe Boy label (maybe from Neil Rushton). I thought these looked great (was there a VJ one?)...........could the same not be done with just 2 tracks? If packaged with die cut card sleeves printed with sleeve and label artwork akin to original sleeve or label, and possibly on the CDs that look like small vinyl records with grooves etc, they would be attractive to a much larger market....and thus possibly earn both the artist/writer and reissuer more revenue? You state that the preferred market is for hard core collectors and DJs, and I think that this is the true, moreso DJs, but surely this is not a massive market.........so by releasing a 7" only it is limiting the mass exposure, and possible revenue for the artist/writer etc. There will never be any common ground on this debate between collectors of rare soul 45s and those who license and reissue current 'hot' and indemand 45s, other than in the case where the track is previously unreleased. The main crux here, seems to be that the reissue has been released too soon, and whilst I understand that this may have been done to beat the bootleggers, it does affect the Rare Soul Niter Scene, such indemand records do lose their shine to the collectors, DJs, and followers of that scene when reissued....we all know that. Whilst that may seem a small price to pay to those who shout about the bigger picture of earning the original artist/writer a long awaited few hundered $$s, it is fair to say, that without the DJs and collectors of the Rare Soul Scene finding and playing these 'lost' gems, they would remain as such, completely unknown to all on our scene. Crowds are thinning on the rare scene, no doubt about it, and nowadays (especially with the rising cost of fuel and the state of the economy) there must be motivation for people to put £50 - £60 of fuel in their car to drive 100+ miles to hear a DJ play that special something that they can't hear anywhere else.....and reissues such as this one play their part at chipping away at the attraction.......possibly until the point of no return. Of course, some may not care if this is the case, but however small the rare soul scene is becoming, it still constantly drip feeds new discoveries onto the oldies circuit. On a lighter note, at the last Lifeline some-one commented that the 3 known copies of this 45 in the U.K. were all in Brookfields venue on that night......whereas at the next Lifeline it will be morelike 1003 copies
  22. Don't know about the L.P. but I seem to recall that the 45 is on Mexican CBS.....though I might be wrong cus it's ages since I saw Miks copy (the only 45 copy I know of). Think that Dennis Haw (Denbo on here) has the L.P. so might be worth pming him for the details. Also sure I've seen a reissue of the LP a few years back, but again, my memory ain't what it was!
  23. Around that time of Shelleys I also went a decent soul night at Florence Colliery Club, just a few miles down the road.......not sure how many were held there, but can only remember going once. I know there has been soul events there in recent years, but did anyone go back then, and was it just a one off?
