  1. Rob, I've seen Mick Smith today and he told me it was indeed the Yiddish 45 he was referring to
  2. £30 to £40......quality Mod Jazz 45 One on Midastouch site... https://www.midastouchsoul.co.uk/ourshop/prod_2016453-Sonny-Cox-The-Wailer-Cadet-E.html
  3. New York or Italy for sure........ ;o) 'New York City' side can be heard at 58.53mins on Jesterwild mix link below.... https://jesterwild.co...id=42&Itemid=42
  4. Definately Checker and not Chess Rob? Sure Mick had a copy Yiddish Soul Brother Amnon on Chess which has hit 4 figures of late. PS - if its in that guys collection you've been raping and pillaging recently I hope I receive a tidy commission fee for such info! Regards Mace
  5. Richard....you wanna have the Count following you around a record show cus you showed slight interest in a 45 in his sales box.....give me the abusive emails any day. Anyways, I heard he had 2 houses next to each other, one for his records and one for his family (hard to believe the 'family' bit I know)....if this is true, and he has one house reposessed, he can always move back next door unless his missus wants nowt to do with the Count as well....
  6. I don't recall any interest in Beggin' at that time, it was maybe popular between a few collectors/DJs in selected areas but never on large scale...... then again, when a certain section of the mod scene went all fcukin 'swirly' who knows what got played. 'Berts Apple Crumble' on the other hand is indeed a proper Mod record, and really shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentance as this turd of a tune. As for the others oddities you mention, most will (rightly) never get any attention on the Northern Scene....Sh'mon & The Snake(Maximillian) etc, but didn't Soul Drummers get spins at 100 Club during the late 80s?.....and sure I have heard that Ray Ricardo - Nitty Gritty was played at the Torch ?
  7. A silly comparison Pete. as you well know, there are lots of blue eyed soul/pop records that have been accepted by the Northern Scene over the whole history of the scene....this is just another to the list. I should imagine Timebox was probably played at the Wheel revival nights, though don't know this for sure. The only person I have heard play it out is Carl Willingham at KH...the floor was packed.....I know lots of people on the scene who want a copy of either version.....its been accepted by the scene so that kinda seals the deal imo. The fact that you (and others) don't think that's right is of no consequence....it's happened....with or without your seal of approval. Furthermore, it's a piss weak record full stop......and I don't know many, if any, DJs on the Mod scene that would touch it with a shitty stick.
  8. Carl Willingham played it in the main room at Kings Hall a few months back to a packed floor. As, I'm led to believe, have many other DJs at predomintaely oldies orientated venues. So does that make it a Northern Soul record? As very few records are purpose made to be 'Northern Soul' records, I'd say the definition is created by the acceptance of the 'scene' on the dancefloor....this version does seem to have gained increasing popularity and acceptance on the Northern Scene, and so by default could be now described as a Northern Soul Record. As a side note, I wouldn't define it as a Mod record either......but as that scene has a wider variety of appreciated genres of music than the Northern Scene I'm sure some will beg to differ.
  9. Know someone that might well part with their copy for £200 ...will PM your details over to him. Regards Mace
  10. Can't remember who it was (poss Nick Brown?), but some-one had a copy of Ray Pollard 'This Time' that was broken into 3 pieces so he glued the 3 pieces on top of another worthless 45 and it pretty sure it played fine....

  12. Looks like he's sending it registered by his comment on overseas postage...which may well increase the possibility of incurring a customs bill at this end as well.....

  14. Why not just offer them to 2nd/3rd highest bidders as they were higher than $1500 / $1300 etc......unless he already did that and had 6+ copies? Copy was also sold at Allentown for $1000.........soon be back down to $500 at this rate

  16. I had heard that Prince Charles was Charles Sheffield, vocals are very similar so seems likely. Yes I did offer it to you at Radcliffe Callum, but you will go on buying all that funky stuff ! Whats going rate on this nowadays? Charles Sheffield connection must add another zero to old value surely ! LOL
