  1. Keep it for a while and make 'em all sweat.... In fact.....I'd get some pics taken of yourself doing dangerous acts/stunts/sports etc whilst holding it gingerly between your teeth...(in a sleeve of course....) Bungee Jumps, BMX tricks, juggling those fire flaming baton things that jugglers love to chuck about.... etc. It won't increase the value of the 45, but wont half fcuk up the OCD levels of half the collectors on this site.....that's surely gotta be worth more than £10K of anyones money! Will the rest of the collection be up for sale...if so is there any chance of a list....? Plenty of British I'm still chasing even if Denbos given up....! ;o)
  2. The ones you still haven't got??? ;o)
  3. I shall resist from clogging this thread up any more with replies of an angle rotated of cardboard product variety.....
  4. Yeah. I turn each piece 90 degrees as described BUT most UK card stiffeners are flimsy at best so I end up using 4 or 5........2 aint strong enough in my opinion...some of those US ones are sturdy as fcuk...and that's why I asked if anyone stocks them in UK.....have requested a sample from supplier on Bravs link (I gotta buy 500+ so want them to be right)...but a pound to a penny says they are the same flimsy tat as the rest...
  5. Bit off topic, but can anyone recommend a UK stockist for decent 7" stiffeners....most the ones available are somewhat flimsy so I tend to use 4 or 5 at a time...had some really good quality ones from US made of very sturdy cardboard but cant seem to find them in UK.....plus my missus won't let me buy any more gas BBQs so I can cut up the cardboard box they come in!
  6. If it's not a soul event then of course you have no need to contact the promoter, and the manager should not refuse your business I am puzzled though.....why would the promoter be bothered about not DJing if it's a birthday party not a soul night? I'm guessing the music policy was to be Northern, and not general disco/wedding pish? If so then I still believe the courteous thing to do would to be have approached the promoter first. It's just general good manners in my opinion, and even though you were not aware of his promotion initially, then you could have followed it up after the manager told you that a soul night already ran in the venue. Actually why would the manager even mention the soul night if you were booking for a general birthday party.? Not my venue, not my promotion, not my concern really.......just airing my opinion on how I would have played it. Best of luck in finding an alternative....I know plenty of suitable venues in the area if you need any info.....Nantwich Civic Hall is a beauty and has 2am license if I remember correctly....Eddie Edmundson ran some hugely successful charity events there a few years back, fantastic dancefloor and has a big car park to rear....plus no soul promotions running from there presently so no grief to worry about!
  7. Of course no promoter has the right to dictate who hires the club that they regularly use. However, I would have thought a courtesy call to the promoter to explain your intent would probably been a decent thing to do...not that you should have to do this, but moreso I would think it would be the best way to start proceedings. Let's be honest, most if us know who promotes which venues and it is easy enough to find out on here if in doubt. This day and age there are so many events competing with each other, both locally and nationally. This results in plenty of politics and backstabbing between promoters, so any enquiries for another soul event at a venue that another promoter regularly uses could be viewed with suspicion. Of course that doesn't excuse abusive phone calls or emails from said promoter in return, but all is not sugary sweet on the promoting side of Northern Soul, and never has been....... Think the term 'Welcome to the shark pool' gets bandied about a fair bit!
  8. Did UK Pye get issued with pic sleeve? There is a European issue with pic sleeve...think its on Funckler?
  9. Not so sure if this is true with some of the R&B stuff that they have reissued.
  10. Got an Otis Blackwell 'Oh what a babe' at £150. Pm me if interested. regards Mace
  11. He lost his account a few years back (strange as it may seem), but eventually got back on. Not sure if he is still on there but sounds like he still behaves as bad. I made the mistake of enquiring about a 45 in his sales box once, price was too high so I walked off and he followed me around trying to sell it me....told him what I'd pay and he said no then came back later saying I could have it at price I offered. Told him I didn't have enough money left so offer was now 20% lower....fcuker was nearly blowing a fuse but obviously needed the money so gave me the record and snatched the money....I then turned around and bought a record of another dealer....when he saw I had plenty of money left he was going nuts.....funny as fcuk. One dealer once sold me a record for less than the Count had just offered (and been refused) right in front of him just to piss him off..... Was a joy to watch his reaction.....
  12. In the last 6 to 12 months he has had to rely on a mobility scooter to get around. His ignorance and foul manner has now increased tenfold, and he seems to take great pleasure in 'scooting' around the aisles in a record show and obliviously bumping into you on the CnutMobile. Discussions were made between certain parties regards having his battery away, though a wheel clamp might be just as efficient a solution.....
  13. You wanna meet him in the flesh.....bit like Jimmy Savilles evil twin......
  14. Dunno, have you played and compared them? Presume time / flips / label design are all identical? If so then it's just an extra X.....or one less....depending on wether your glass is half empty of half full!
  15. Sorry, I was of course taking the piss....the real difference is that one copy has one less X than the other. ;o)
  16. One has an extra X....... ;o)
  17. Maybe so, but that quite a significant time difference on a basic number system....any date info for the other K10? Numbers to clarify?
  18. https://www.45cat.com/record/k106?newwindow=true
  19. So the Jimmy Soul Clark with the similar label design as posted earlier, is listed online as a 1968 release. Is this correct? If so how can Jimmy Soul Clark (cat K106) precede date wise The Volumes (cat K100) if it's a 1970 / 1971 release? What are K102 through to K105 release dates ?
  20. Or maybe they are boots as well......? Just joking before lots of knickers get twisted!
  21. I was told liner notes were written by Ollie but I don't have the album to confirm. Of course it could be incorrect, but worth debating at least... ;o)
  22. Is that the exact quote from Ollie on liner notes? If so first 2 words of this paragraph indicate it was never released.....? "Previously unreleased, 'Ain't gonna give you up' radiates pure vocal magic." DETROIT GOLD Volume 2, Solid Smoke Records 1984.
  23. I'd also be interested in more info on this record....I posted it as a possible contender in the thread entitled 'The bootleg that everybody sells as an original'....here's what I posted... "Apparently, on the Solid Smoke LP which includes the above track Ollie McLaughlin writes in the liner notes that this was never released? Don't have the LP to quote exact comment, but could this be the (bootleg) 45 in question.....?"
  24. It wasn't logic, it's a new app I downloaded called 'FinalWord' You copy and past the debate into the program and it gives you the best reply to post. Pisses all over Shazam!
  25. Not the ones in his own collection .... ;o)
