  1. ....surely there is enough authentic original releases to go through? Whether it's a monster rarity or a £5 tune. Can't really see the difference between a pressing or an acetate, whether it's unreleased or not. Like having a photocopy of a penny black stamp.....or a photocopy of the original artwork for the Penny Black, that was discarded in favour of the one used. Still only photocopies...... Bit deep that, even for me.....think I need my bed.... Regards, Mace.
  2. Actually it is in the Events guide under March 19th (SOUL POWer Charity Night) Post was made for events listing by same ID as original post, so maybe wise to double check before posting such an accusation and maybe post an apology......
  3. I can sympathise with your view regarding how your attendance figures may be affected by other events on the same night, particularly the larger ones, and I presume you are talking about Kings Hall, as that is probably the major event of that night. To be fair to Kev Roberts, he has advertised that date (March 19th) for Kings Hall for many many months, and he promotes it as he has always promoted it, so you can't really complain about it being on the same night as your event...in hindsight you would have been better off keeping away from that date altogether. Kev would probably love everybody to think that way, giving him a free date on all his events, but my point being, if you are trying to raise money for a Charity you should try to ensure that you plan things such as dates to work out the best that they can for your event, and clashing with Kings Hall is not really good planning, as would clashing with Prestatyn and the rest. Promoting any event, small or large takes time, money and effort...as you are well aware from your own post. The majority of events that I co-promote make very little profit, as Ged pointed out, less than a DJ wage usually, and even then it is a gamble on whether a profit is achieved....it may not be the promoters goal to make money, but it a relief when the breakeven is achieved, and a result if you go home with a few quid in your arse pocket. As for glossy ads / flyers - they do cost more to produce, but effectively pay for themselves by getting noticed by more people, and thus adding numbers to the door....again, it is a gamble to outlay for such promotion, but it is the promoters decision to take that gamble and he /she shouldn't be criticised for promoting correctly. Going back to your charity night - perhaps it is an idea to ask the promoters of the other events advertised on Soul Source for that date to have a collection for your chosen charity on their night, or even make a charitable donation themselves. What really amazes me about this scene though, is how everybody moans about the politics, and as soon as a thread about such gets posted, everyone gets involved...great innit Mace
  4. Hope not cus I'm well f**cked for my spot if so..... Now where did I put those old disco records (ducking, ready for the backlash!!!) Mace
  5. No probs Andy. PM me your postal address and I'll send you a copy of the tape I'm doing for Sebastian. Keeps me busy........ Regards, Mace.
  6. Your credits excellent... ...but your repayment schemes suck! Might be able to find another copy yet, so £1 a week works out to 2 pints every time we go the Hideaway for the next 10 years. Mmmm...free beer.......might be an option that! Mace
  7. Don't know the Blue Bull track...but I've just found 2 mint DJ copies at $6 each on a website so I've bought them on your recommendation! Get ready for a rant from Miss Popcorn now.... Will have your tape done by weekend Sebastian (sooner if possible!) Regards, Mace.
  8. I'm sick of it already...then again, I can listen to it as much as I want. Buy it off me now if you want - £500 Bargain..... Mace
  9. Hi Andy - I'm not a collector of albums or CDs, but the New Breed R&B CDs have some great tracks. Roger Banks used to sell compilation tapes with some top R&B stuff on, and if you can get a contact for Killer he can put you onto loadsa CDs with R&B and Popcorn tracks on them...tell him the sort off sound you're after though cus some of the popcorn can be heavy going if you're not used to it. As for artists, Ted Taylor / Little Willie John / Pearl Woods / Cookie Jackson / Willie Mae Thornton / Bobby Bland / Billy Bland et al have recorded loadsa of good stuff as a starting point (though plenty of shite as well!) You usually find that the better tracks being collected or spun on the R&B circuit are the best things that that individual artist has recorded, so it would be pointless listing hundreds of artists that have generally released one gem and a hundred pieces of tripe! Other than that check out the Hideaway (if it gets too heavy for you the New Century Manchester Allniter is on the same night and only a mile away), Flipside nights at Sheridans and the new R&B room opening at the Crewe Allniter in March. You'll find us at most of these on a regular basis, so please introduce yourself...we're a friendly (though ugly) bunch, but watch out for Hoss, loud mouth and somewhat scary to those who don't know him, but a big softy at heart!!! Most of all, give it a go and enjoy it all mate - it's there for the listening!!! I've always collected rare Northern stuff, but have always had a soft spot for R&B. Anyway, enough of this, PLEASE can we get back to the original thread, it was a great post and deserves more replies... Regards, Mace.
  10. ...but the last time we played this game you uncovered it in 48 hours Linda. Might tape you the opening bars....then leave you to suss it... Plus you've got too many contacts in Belgium who have probably known it since Adam was a nipper! I might play it to you in the car on the way to the Hideaway on Saturday to keep you happy! Mace
  11. Got an office at work and one at home...though the one at home is a junkyard at the moment...actually the one at work is as well. So no, I don't have an office, but I've got two junkyards! So how are you Jim? Have you heard Duncan Pollitt is returning to the potteries. You can take a man out of Stoke, but you can't take the oatcake out of a clayhead! Nice tape you sent me by the way Mr Bates (or should that be master ), P.M. me your address again Jim and I'll copy one of these tapes for you. Regards, Mace.
  12. Fair comment - PM me your postal address Sebastian and I'll put a tape together including this track.....do you know R&B stuff like Little Joe Hinton 'Let's start a romance' ? Regards, Mace.
  13. Would do mate but I'm totally inept at putting vinyl onto anything but a cassette tape Will be playing it out and about in the near future (R&B room at Crewe Allnighter on March 12th, Bidds in April, Flipside and Hideaway in May to name a few) It's a killer tune, played it to a few people well wise to R&B and no-ones sussed it yet. Regards Mace.
  14. ....dealer, not delear...I really shouldn't type owt after midnight cus me spelling goes to cock! Mace
  15. I buy lots of stuff blind, though only cheap. Best one was WDJ copy of Tami Lynn 'Nobody wants you' backed with a version of 'Trouble Child' on Fayette for $3. Great tracks, and was well pleased A few months later I saw it on a decent delears list for £500 Apparently it's her mega rare debut...... bargain! Had a few other nice hits including a top unkown R&B tune that I'm covering up as Peppermint Harris (till some tw@t tells me it's well known!) .......but I have bought loadsa of shite too.......most of it still collecting dust in my office.... Might be collectible one day...or so I keep telling myself! Half the fun of ebay to be honest....and great topic for a post Regards, Mace.
  16. Would rate it as £175 tops on Australian. Nice label on this copy but you have to play it upside down ...apparently Mace
  17. Good on yer Nige...you deserve all the sponsors you can get, and I'm sure you'll get plenty off Soul Source. One thing before I pledge.......if I make it a good 'un do you promise to stay out there or that not in the deal... Don't wear any of those lary shirts you seem to collect or you might scare the natives.......and before you reply Andrew Bin...it was PEACH!!!!! Seriously, best of luck Nige. Regards, Mace.
  18. In response to queries on parking for this venue. There is parking directly oposite the venue, next to Ceramica museum, for about 30 cars. There is also a small carpark at the rear of the venue, and more than plenty of parking bays in the side streets surrounding the venue, and local area. Most of these spaces, including the ones around Ceramica are on parking meters, but most, if not all are free parking after 6.00 p.m. Saturday evening and on Sundays...but please do double check times on parking meter bays. There is also an Arc carwash just 50 yards from the venue, which has a large carpark surrounding it - it doesn't open till 9.00 a.m. Sunday, but again, please check there are no signs indicating parking fines or clamping if you park on any areas like this. Hope you all have a safe journey and a great night. Regards, Mace.
  19. I know Carl Willingham has one, and he sold me his spare copy, and Des Parker just got one from the States....got robbed of a full $60 for his! One went on ebay about a year or so ago, so there's 4 I know of at least. Should imagine quite a few more floating about, probably a good few in Belgium. I think Wilson Picket is more common in comparison, and as Luther Ingram is an unreleased track it is by far the rarest version...but does that count for something you can't get on a proper release format????? Mace
  20. It is a tad to fast to dance to...maybe worth tweaking it down a touch on the pitch control...I'll have to give it a go and see what it sounds like. Expecting loadsa negative vibes about fiddling with the pitch control now.... No Mason..you mustn't adjust the speed of the original recording...it's not the done thing.... Seem to remember Rob Messer telling me years ago that he used to tweak the speed up slightly on both decks when he was DJing so he could squeeze in an extra record in his hour set! Good old Rob...I'll have to post up his infamous 'tube train bishop bashing escapade' story on here one day... Absolute pisser... Mace.
  21. Gotta disagree Christian...Fred Bridges is by far the better version, and in my opinion, the best of the bunch, though all 3 version are great tunes in their own right. Mace
  22. This photo does the outfit no justice at all. It's too dark, so you can't see the straw sticking out from the armholes after you robbed the coat off a scarecrow, and the Big Issue you're holding hides the fieldmouse that was living in a small hole in your belly area. And then of course, there was the smell...hence the empty room. No photo captures that, unless you can post up a scratch and sniff!!! Mace
  23. The Pong Man - Tony Clarke
  24. Bum pee, whats left on me - Bobby Hutton
  25. Right, I need me bed.....though keep 'em going, you've done me proud. Chris sneaked a look in a few time with no comment to date...but watch this space. I'm 'SURE' he'll want to thank you all for your show of respect!!! cheers, Mace
