  1. Interesting CD Mick - Richard Berry 'Have Love will travel' and 'Louie louie', and I think the flip to the Delcos Arabia 'Those 3 little words' Don't know any of the others though....probably Rock 'n' Roll
  2. Totally understand that, and also appreciate the fact. Everybody has different tastes, and that what makes the scene so interesting. My tastes lean more towards male mid tempo and R&B, so I obviously don't frequent modern rooms or venues that cater more for that style of music. However, it seems that folk into the more modern side of things can get quite vocal about R&B being rock'n'roll, but get easily offended when the modern stuff gets called disco shite......quite humurous to say the least.
  3. So it's not a turd on a stick, but a good or great record on it's stand alone merit. Love to see you backpeddle Pete There are probably hundreds of records you and I would not play on the Northern scene, but they get played. I don't like ska and reggae...never have, but don't get upset if I hear anything of the like played at a Mod or soul event....
  4. It is rare Grant, but not the reason I bought mine (for which I paid about $10) It is rare due to supply and demand, and demand for this record was going silly long before Billy mentioned it on Soul Source. Both Hoss and Carl Willingham flipped over this tune, both have a great ear for decent R&B.....must account for something. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, along with ones mans meat is another poison blah blah blah......those that love will love it regardless of the comments on here, so na na na na narrrrrrrrrr.
  5. Where did I state is was a northern R&B tune???? I said it's getting plays at Northern venues and having a great response on the dancefloors. Little Queenie does nowt for me, but is similar in style. Its a great R&B tune.....as I said a few times...12 months from now.... Now stop talking bollox Pete.....anyway, you said it was good in an earlier post on this thread...suddenly it's a turd on a stick....make ya mind up man....
  6. ...or even bad disco records that charted recently..... Not to mention terrible disco records that didn't....
  7. It's a great record, early admittedly, but still great. You disco kids just resent the fact that we don't have to listen to your rubbish, and can still find kickin' tunes without having to wander into Y2K. If you don't like R&B, then fair enough, it will have no impact on you. If you do like R&B and find this to be average just wait till you hear it out in a club....... As for no place on the Northern Scene, draw a comparison if you will to 'Little Queenie' a tune quite similar in style...whether you love or hate that tune, you cannot deny the impact it has had on the Northern Scene with packed dancefloors in oldies venues and the like. Labels, labels ,labels...rock'n'roll schmock 'n' roll.....it's a stonking uplifting tune..........better than them there 'Love Boat' themes that get spun out... Ya can all kiss me Little Annie.....
  8. Not at the leisure bowl mate, at Bidds on Sutherland Road (about 5 mins away) Little Annie does get plays there mate...and packs the floor funnily enough.. Next one is June 24th - Might be worth letting Chalky keep hold of the musical brain that night.. Be nice to throw some ale down your neck and have you dancing away to it... Will see Gary Taylor friday night at Alsager Civic and will pass on your regards. Apologies to Andy Dyson for taking this thread off topic...Grants fault mate...
  9. Might be worthwhile checking out the photos on this website from the various functions they have been taken at. From some of the ones I looked at they were set in fantastic ballrooms, with large dancefloors, with middle aged people dancing and celebrating a love of 50s and 60s music that DJs were playing from original 45rpm vinyl, whilst drinking, laughing and generally enjoying themselves.......sound familiar? Some of this music does cross over into our Northern and R&B scene, but the point being that this scene has run in a similar vein to ours, with some tunes being very popular in both. Why people have a problem with this I don't know.....it's not our music, it's not their music.....its a common love and celebration of a certain genre of music. We should at least respect their scene for this fact, even if their music does not appeal to us. This guy ain't a record dealer, and yes, there are some rip off Belgian dealers, as there is worldwide.......doesn't make them all bad though.
  10. Just wondering if you were joined to Chalkys hip to be honest.....
  11. Couldn't keep any of mine for more than 5 minutes mate. When I took the Carlton copy up the Hideaway I had 4 people lining up wanting to buy it, but had already promised it to some-one. Hoss didn't know it when I sold him the Spanish one...had one listen and he was away with it.
  12. Saw a 45 listed on ebay recently as 'Little Effie Annie' or 'Little Effin Annie' Seller described it as a novelty record, never went for it, but wondered if it was a novelty cover of this tune..
  13. Got the Spanish one off ebay for very low price.....seller listed it as potentional Mod R&B killer by Lionel Hampton, never mentioned Anna Belle at all! Mate of mine bid for it just as my snipe went in......he was a bit gutted to say the least...
  14. No, mate - it's straight up, but welcome any funnies at this time of night...
  15. Yep, same....sure other copies I sold had red Glad Hamp logo, but will check. Not sure as I've seen the all black ones at all (so makes you wonder which are rarer)....and never seen the Carlton pressing since I sold it for £30..... Well the daft old sod got top billing on the Spanish EP, and it still flopped. Are you aware that the label name comes from his wife Gladys Hampton?
  16. Yeah if poss to be double sure.......I kept a copy of the pic sleeve from the Spanish EP somewhere...will send you a copy if i can find it...cool sleeve. It's a Lionel Hampton EP, so pic is of him, and strangely, whilst Anna Belle Caeser is credited on back of sleeve as vocals, it is the opposite way round on Gladhamp release.
  17. So it is only the word Glad Hamp in red ink, not the rest of the print on the label?
  18. That's my boy...
  19. Actually, that could be read as you wanting to 'come out the closet' and admit you have a deep down (or low down) yearning for R&B......come on Chalks, you will feel soooooooooo much better when you share your true feelings...
  20. Not till we see those tail feathers shaking away mate....
  21. Wasn't saying that he was applauding those records, just that his remarks (as muffled as they were from inside that closet ) were aimed at Anna Belle Caesar.............although he actually voiced support for a Cookie Jackson track, but doubt myself that any of his tail feathers were being shook, or even twitched, at the time (mind you, it is pretty dark in afformentioned closet, so he could have been doing the Watusi for all we know ) Now please return to the back, where your heckling can only be defined as mumbling rant...
  22. Actually Trouty, Chalky comments were not aimed at Big Daddy Rogers, Cookie Jackson and the like...but at the Anna Belle Caesar track......please try keep up if you wanna join in....
  23. Don't suppose any of you have fell for the old £50 billion sitting in a Nigerian bank account jobbie then.......
  24. This is without a doubt a great tune by Roy Hamilton, and gets my vote. As for Chuck Jackson, the Motown release 'What am I gonna do without you baby' is a beauty, along with 'The breaking point'.
  25. Still starting to fill floors at Northern dos though.....all the same...... We all have personal tastes Grant, (thank f*ck or it would be a boring scene), and this record will never appeal to the majority of soulies.......it does however, have a certain appeal to so many of them or this discussion would not arise in the first place.
