  1. Temptations - Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) Diana Ross - I'm Still Waiting
  2. Let's not forget Mrs Mills(?) version of Lovers Concerto...on second thoughts, yes do forget it
  3. Awesome - surprised it's not more popular!
  4. Actually, I played it last month at Barrow Hill...on the subject of '70s instrumentals tho', it wasn't so long back that The Brothers "Are You Ready For This" was massive everywhere no?
  5. To settle the "metaphoric" issue, there is such a word in the Apple Dictionary but only as a derivative of metaphor:
  6. A version of Soul Coaxing was played by the BBC as testcard music back in the '70s and early '80s too
  7. From the modern side: High Frequency "Hot Fun In The Summertime"
  8. True - also, surely I'm not the only one who thinks this sounds like a poor imitation of Gonzales "Haven't Stopped Dancin' Yet"? My contribution to this thread: Wade Flemons "Janette" yeah, you can dance to it, but it doesn't seem to go anywhere to my ears
  9. At a guess, 'tis because the illusion can only last until someone goes up to the decks and sees a taped-on handwritten white label spinning round....
  10. There was a legitimate UK Atlantic 12" release with exactly that track listing around 1983 - release number was A9891T, I suspect yours is probably a demo or test pressing for that one.
  11. Yes, it's "Dreamin'"/"Worn Out Broken Heart".
  12. This is probably the one you're thinking of, which made the trip from Waltham to Clowne some years back: By the way, the writing is actually on the B-side which has a song called "Hes' A Bad Boy", which I believe is actually a cover version of a better known pop track (can't place the original artist tho'), the actual "Heartaches Away" side label is totally white. Bell Sound stamp in the run out both sides.
  13. I got myself this a few months ago - my first quality mechanical: Better picture - and you can order one - here
  14. As the top one has a three point centre rather than the four point usual for President releases, possibly for some reason President used a different manufacturing plant from usual, as a one off - and neglected/were unable for whatever reason to supply the second plant with a copy of the President logo for the labels so they just made one up to look close to the real one?
  15. Yip, that's the one! And what a record too, Northern or not
  16. I know - and what I said was a
  17. What did you expect, acupuncture?
  18. And then it loops back to the first verse, perhaps signifying how history repeats itself each generation? (Bit deep for a Friday night eh )
  19. Is the US version you have a demo? I imagine it could have been Bowdlerised for radio play
  20. I'm with Ian D on this one - for an "introduction" package (especially one designed for longevity, as I get the impression this is), it's best really to concentrate on evergreen classics (such as Yvonne Baker, Bobby Hebb, Patti/Emblems etc) - sounds that you'll hear out, or tracks sounding very much like them, maybe not every week but certainly every so often. The trouble with going for current in-demanders - as some posters here are suggesting should have been done - is that they're likely to fall out of favour just as quickly - case in point, 12-24 months ago DJ Genesis "Tonight" was unavoidable - now it's forgotten: likewise only 5 years or so ago Bettye Swann "Kiss My Love Goodbye" was a guaranteed spin at most soul nights, now it's back to forgotten oldie status and hardly ever heard anymore. As always - this is my opinion, I'm not always right
  21. Now playing - superb job Sean , only trouble is my wants list is expanding again See you on Friday, all being well!
  22. Mine's on its way - just got the email from Amazon. All being well, it will be the first spin on the new Sony RDR-HXD890 Black DVD/HDD RecorderHDMI Multiregion which is also on its way to me
  23. I imagine Aretha's Respect has also been devalued a bit for many by the fact that a certain controversial politician used to use it as his theme tune
  24. Hmm, perhaps in this case another term may be more appropriate...contemporaneous perhaps?
  25. It is a cool label design. I think it'd have been even better with a more '60s style (tall and thin) font for the general text tho (ie not the ubiquitous Helvetica/Arial)
