  1. Well I must admit I liked "Rehab" but I'm afraid the two posted above don't really do a lot for me - she sounds almost like a Saturday night karaoke singer Oh and, I'm no prude but somehow a certain word which is one letter different from the Unix command for File System Check sounds a little incongruous on a soul track n'est-ce pas?
  2. Precisions tracks got around a bit didn't they - "If This Is Love" of course found its way to Eddie Spencer in Canada
  3. First record purchased (1977): The Brothers "Sing Me" (UK Bus Stop) - an Opportunity Knocks winner in a pop-reggae sort of vein First Northern (1978): James Coit "Black Power" on a pressing off Chesterfield market - this was a "whats this? its brilliant" situation, I didn't even know what Northern Soul was at the time First Collectors Item (1980): Sly and the Family Stone "Dance To The Music" on a US Epic white demo, £3.50 from JM Most recent purchase (about 2 wks ago): Mary Saxton "Take My Heart" (Quality), kind of full circle as this also came from JM
  4. Hmm, I'm sure that Sean doesn't need me to defend him but I would strongly dispute that one of the top DJs of at least the early '80s (and one of my inspirations as a spinner of sounds) doesn't understand "what the scene is all about"
  5. Could this be the one?
  6. Take My Heart on Quality - postie willing, it will be in my playbox at Clowne Anchor on Saturday night
  7. Mary Saxton - 511 and on its way to a good home...or at least an Adequate one
  8. Seconded - in particular "We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue" is awesome political deep soul
  9. In my case, all of 'em I wouldn't buy a record I don't like, if it's cr@p but popular let one of the other DJs play it
  10. Unquestionably - not advisable to listen to after you've just been upgraded And staying with Motown, what about Brenda Holloway "Just Look What You've Done" - "now helplessly I stand watching love walk away..." (<- will that do as a crying emoticon?)
  11. Out of interest, does she also know about the "Harold Melvin" fake pitched down version?
  12. And apart from all those and the ones Sean mentioned, who can forget "Backstabbers"...Angie Stone certainly didn't
  13. Ernie, Just PM'ed you re this.
  14. Also Pat Brady had a 7" on Hotlicks for auction recently - I didn't catch the end price but it was at £188 with 2 days to go. I still have mine that I bought for about £2 back in the day
  15. That would be Suzie Parker "The Dance Of Love" n'est-ce pas? Flippin'eck is this an unissued Pinky and Perky track?
  16. Hmm, wonder if I should do a female version of the Quatrain of Van Dell?
  17. Sean, Steve, I'm doing fine (as New York City might have sang) thanks - I'm afraid my dancing skills are a pale shadow of what they were back in the day , doesn't stop me trying at places like Ponds Forge tho'...as some readers probably already know, I'm also involved with a semi-regular soul night in Clowne which will become regular (last Saturday of every month) in November Do you guys still get out and about on the scene? I'll keep my eyes open (PS - unfortunately I don't have the flashing box anymore, my current vinyl box is a metal 400-er on which I've stuck an Apple sticker so I can jokingly call it a prototype iPod )
  18. Now that brings back memories - I had it on Mojo for ages, only selling it after upgrading to a US Atco copy in '98ish... By the way, anyone know the history behind the alternate take that seems to be on a few compilation CDs (how it was discovered as in)? (PS - Sean, you may remember me as Neil, tho' you probably wouldn't recognise me now - I've put a lot of weight on since back inthe day )
  19. Funny you should mention that, just won one of those on ebay...awesome UK demo for just the right side of fifty quid All together now - "pa-pow, pa pa pa pa pa pow..."
  20. Think you're being a bit optimistic there, I paid about 55 for mine - and that was a de-centered one
  21. If you think the mods here are tough, believe me there are far worse places - on some forums you can be b& for using the wrong thread tag
  22. This calls for an image macro for future use:
  23. If one is a dancer who also does dj spots, can one vote in both?
  24. I remember about this time last year I put my Dena Barnes Grapevine demo on ebay - got just over £60 for it, there seemed to be quite a bidding war on it too
