  1. Think Dave Withers must have bought Richard Searlings copy ,as he used to play it in the early days of Stafford ,before the Guy / Keb era .
  2. I believe this is pretty rare ,a stock copy of Lou Edwards .I had a copy in the 70’s before selling to Richard Searling .
  3. The flip of Bobby Kline has loads of legs in it still ,and arguably the better side .
  4. Interesting that the version of “ Goddess Of Love “ on the LP is different to the Ric - Tic 45 ,no strings ...

  6. A few years ago a friend of mine visited Chicago on a record buying trip .There was a guy in one of the shops who had compiled some fave down tempo records onto CD , this was in the early years of the CD-R .My friend let me tape them ,below is one such example .I’ll look out the others if there is any interest .
  7. I also understand that Kenny Sheperd is also Kenny Young - of “ Ain’t It Funny What Love Can Do “ Fame on Share Records ....
  8. Those shows that Bobo ( RIP ) did “ Sitting In The Park “ are well worth listening to , for this kind of Soul .Best wishes Eddie

  10. Deena Johnson - I’m A Sad Girl - Simpson Black Stock Copy .I think this is rare ,I found a copy in Vancouver 1980 .Sadly it was warped ,though played ok .I sold it to Keith Minshull at The Casino not long after my return .

  14. There is a tape of Searling playing it at Wigan ,though he has no memory of owning it .Records were handed to DJs to play though ,so maybe it was one of those .I remember Mick Smith handing Richard a copy of “ Because of my heart “ on Rouser at an oldies nighter at Wigan ,quite a while before it went big .John Vincent reviewed Tommy Ridgley in Rod Dearlove’s “ Midnight Express “ fanzine about 81- 84 ?
  15. Many thanks for putting some names and adding stories to the photo Torch56 .Yes ,you’re correct about Stockport ,I know and knew a huge amount of Soul fans from that area .Cheers Eddie

  18. Bought Ruby Andrew’s blind off Soul Bowl for about £6 ,late 70’s after reading Dave Godin’s rave review in Black Music .Didn’t hear it out for quite a while …
  19. I would love to know how the Maurci label obtained the backing tracks from the Detroit based Topper label .
  20. I think I have that “ throat clearing “ version on a CD ,possibly Gold Soul ? I think it must be an unissued out take .
  21. Ed was a genius ,besides being Chief Technical Director at Golden World ,Chief Engineer at United Sound , he engineered numerous Detroit Soul Classics and invented The Wolfbox a direct box which transformed recorded music not only in Detroit ,but at Abbey Road and Blue Note . I was honoured to spend time in his company at his home in Detroit ,taken there by Rob Moss ,he told us great stories of the Detroit music scene ,and demonstrated mixing techniques on his state of the art home equipment ,priceless !! It was also fantastic to listen to a talk with Ed ,Dennis Coffey and Paul Riser in The Snake Pit at Motown ,a mind blowing day .May Ed rest in peace ,the world is a much poorer place today .
  22. Very sad news ,Jon was very influential promoting wise via RSG post Wigan ,and a real gentleman.Rest in peace Jon ,hope you are reunited with Sue now x
