  1. A mate of mine has a black issue plays perfectly apparently .......Best ,Eddie
  2. Here's Dave McCadden's story of how he managed to break the Jades record , from the pages of Soul Galore magazine , which Dave used to run .Dave sadly died a few years back , I've got to say he was one of the funniest blokes I've ever met , and a superb and funny writer on Soul music , no wonder he became a comedian in later life , RIP mate , Best ,Eddie
  3. I've just thought of another one Paula Durante " If he were mine " GJM , way too much bass to the point of distortion , great record tho ' once covered as Rose Battiste , by Richard .Best ,Eddie
  4. Angie Stone album is superb Steve , probably album of the year for me .Best ,Eddie
  5. Worst mix I've ever heard is Gloria Hill " Be somebody " on Deep , brilliant record , but I'd love to hear it remastered , as the version put to wax sounds like it was taped from a studio 3 blocks away !! Best ,Eddie
  6. HB Barnum - The record , Tommy Hunt - I'll make you happy , Doris Troy - Face up to the truth , Ruben Wright - I'm walking out on you ,The Magnificent Men - Peace of mind / All your lovin's gone to my head , Frank Polk - Welcome home baby [ flip of " Jones's" ] ,Bobby Sheen - Sweet sweet love [ flip of Dr love ] , Lou Lawton - Wrapped in a dream ,Lou Rawls - Love is a hurting thing ,.Hope these give you something to look for , Best ,Eddie
  7. Probably Frank Wilson ? Best ,Eddie
  8. I took my copy of Clydie King " Missin' my baby " Imperial WD down to Tescos to photo copy , , put it back in sleeve, picked it up along with several other records , didn't realise I'd put it in the pile upside down , it fell to the floor on it's edge and split across one half , and chipped the edge - gutted !! On the Dave McCadden Jades story , Dave told me it actually grew to twice it's size with the heat .Did you ever hear about the time Dave bought a Drifters " Gotta pay your dues " , put it inside an album for safekeeping , whilst walking home it fell out and went straight down a drain without touching the sides !! Best ,Eddie
  9. A great posting Dave and a very thought provoking thread by Ian , I love vinyl as much as the next collector , often going up to the decks to check out records that I haven't heard or seen before .However when I go to a Modern night ,say Soul Purpose in Hinckley , Soul Republic in Leicester or Soul Underground in B' ham , the Soul sides could be on vinyl , CD's , MP3 it doesn't matter to me or the other punters , my whole mind set changes .I don't know why this is , but I do know that I'd much rather hear an interesting varied set played on whatever format , than a boring set of mega rare played out rare soul sides .Best ,Eddie
  10. The web site is www.dcsoulrecordings.com .I've got the Jimmy Dotson " To be your lover " on Aar - o - dot with " Gone , gone gone " on the flip .Best ,Eddie
  11. Here you Dave , I got this info from a great site dedicated to DC labels : bands and soul writers frequently worked with the groups that were not 100% soul. 24. Freddie recorded the classic Deep Soul album " Friend " for Mankind records in the early 70's , essential for Deep Soul collectors .One of his most famous records was " She's all I got " a country tinged ballad , released on this side of the pond on MOJO records .Most of his records are in a Deep Soul vein , " I have a dream " on UK President is another goodie , as is his version of Big Maybelle's " Oh Lord , what are you doing to me " .Hope this helps ,Best ,Eddie
