  1. Went to a Doncaster Baileys 24 Hr marathon many many moons ago, please correct me if im wrong but i think it may of been Pat Bradys first official dj booking.Records i remember played The Mob,Bernie Williams.
  2. This is dreadfull news, what a lovely guy we have all lost,im gutted, our thoughts are with his family.God bless you my friend you'll always have a place in my life.Gilly and Nicola
  3. To be honest i'd never heard you or Dean play it,Twas the word going about back in the day and as you see on this forum its still the word, personaly i dont give two hoots about the record anymore, but your friendship is important to me so anything ive posted in error i apologize for unreservedly.I hope this doesnt affect what has been a long standing friendship with both yourself and Julia.
  4. I dont think too many people would say its better than S R version but its another alternative that i believe was worthy of a play,You could liken the alt version of the Coasters Crazy Baby song,or even the recent Just Like The Weather that Butch has played,Each to their own i guess.
  5. Did have What Should I Do, Little Ann,acapela,Mick maybe thats what your thinking of and an inst of Saving My Love,Marva Whitney, and numerous other odd ball things.
  6. Time to set the record straight, this particular female version was firstly picked up by myself whilst in Detroit in 1992 I got it from the guy who was the engineer. One track was a single vocal take, next track was because the vocal is weak they mixed two vocals together in an attempt to give the song body.Track three was the backing track(the same as used for the released version S Robinson)The recording was done at Golden World in i think 1965 and the engineer said it was D Ross. This i found hard to understand at the time she was of course contracted to Motown and had already had a couple of hits, but i wasnt going to argue with him.On the odd occasion i DJed i would play it.Some time later i allowed a well known person from Notts (KWS) a tape copy in full, next i know Dean and Kitch are using it in their sets on the understanding it was a KWS discovery. The things people do?Much later i spotted it on a Todmorden CD when they done a deal with Don Davises brother along with a load of other stuff. The name B Mercer makes more sense as the vocalist.
  7. What was the official last night at the Casino was attended by myself,in fact i still have the final ticket both halves still together(collectors item i guess)Then the twats decided to take the piss and put another so called last night on,well i was down at the Tiffs do with Richard and Dave E as was Mr Topcat numpty. Not ripping me off,no way.
  8. Not so much a lisp ive always thought likely a gap between his front teeth,BEWARE BEWARE on MIDAS when the break comes in the middle listen good you may just here it(might try slowing the record down to make it more easy to pick out)
  9. Well said Paul as you know he was my first hero, iff a tad mental(smile)will never forget being in that shop on a saturday morning(off school that day)in New St,Burton on Trent.
  10. Had the lot -3 collected them mainly between about 1978-and early 80ts.Everyone used to laugh and ask me why i was collecting that label, well i proved them all wrong in the end.Of course Adey C then put out 3 Carnival CDS Great stuff.A couple to look out for but not so easy are THE TRENTEENS,not that good but colletable in the States. The Manhattens,THERE GOES A FOOLnot easy to get and early but very nice. What i think is the rare one, well possibly THE PRETENDERS I WANNA BE.(red and white label)who knows.
  11. Yes happy birthday sir, seen you perform many times here in the uk,last time was when you did Stafford and the following day drove yourself and Popcorn down to the Isle of Wight for another gig, remember Desmond Decker sitting in the car with us.Your a great man Eddie.
  12. An original,a legend, and more than that he was a super guy.Over the years ive stood and chatted and never tired of listening to his storys,an all round super guy.So glad that we were friends,i say with respect God bless you sir.Gilly and Nicola
  13. Yes we would like to add our best to the old boy of soul, get yourself better mate.Kind regards Gilly and Nicola
  14. Well done Andy, just the kinda shit i used to get involved in (as you know)makes me smile take it all the way and continue to share, looking forward to part two Gilly and Nicola
  15. You know Neil back in 87 i was stopping at Popcorns house and because of that wonderfull guy managed to get me through Duke Browners house door,he told me that it was the Volumes who had recorded Lady In Green,on my return to the UK i was happy to share that information with anyone. This lead to many a person saying i was wrong(inc Dennis Coffy)now i knew this was fact so i had nothing to prove. So on the Prestatyn Stage.......the rest is history, and then what really pissed me off was the entire Volumes discography put into print as iff it where their story for the telling with no mention or credit given to those people who actually scourced the information. So its so easy and indeed sad for these guys to live off the back of others, but they get found out eventually
  16. Early Wigan day's we used to stop at Knutsford but it started to get a bit dodgy so we hung back to Sandbach at least it was less hassel but not completely open ground. The guy you call stu maybe Stu Kent from near Hinkley(he is on hear)
  17. I don't know,some of you Nuneaton lads!
  18. Hi Paul,i used to have one, still there is only 4 known coppies.Value, well i think is how much your willing to pay,but first of all who out of the 4 lucky owners is going to sell.In my opinion iff someone will pay £9000 for a Don Gardener where would that put an Inspirations.Fantastic bit of kit though.Kind regards see you soon mate Gilly and Nicola
  19. Youve just reminded Ted,a few years ago in Hurts yard again upstairs got two coppies of (then unknown)The Blue Jays-Points of View. They cost me 35p each.
  20. A few years ago myself and Guy Hennigan found ourselves in Birmingham and with out much hope popped in Reddintons for a browse.I found a Wall of Sound -Hang On - and on further digging Guy pulled out a load of Cleveland Wilson 45s.Going further back in time on my way with some old flame to the sea-side stopped at one of the market towns Lincs/Norfork way and pulled out a Jimmy Mc'Farland (it had just started being played) 35p was the price,on handing the record over to me the shop owner noticed a small split on the "run-in"and promtly chucked it in the bin "cant sell you that mate its cracked"so i said "can you give it me then"?"yes was the reply, sorted.I also got some other fair stuff but my memory fails me as to what they were.
  21. You beat me to it mate
  22. Don't know the value but remember it being played for a while, maybe Clarkie and or Searling, can't fully recall.
  23. Maybe a little later than the era you mean but a few of us from Burton on Trent got chucked out of an alldayer for being naughty boys.
  24. Thanks for the info, just brill
  25. Do you know ive been shouting from the roof-tops for a long time now, these tossers who make money today from what they call singing.,dont seem to have any tallant what so ever.Example if anyone watched Paul McCartey on the Jools Holland new years show two years ago will understand,i felt embarrassed for him,i would of advised him to go home and we will contact him iff we can get some work in the working mens clubs. That clip ive just seen on utube is amazing,we need to find out who he is and then BOOK HIM. He can stop with me and Nicola anytime.JUST FANTASTIC
