  1. What about Kirby Belars(Painted Lady)a Mr Manship promotion
  2. Bretby for me was as goood as it gets,i had such wonderful times there. It should never be forgotten this was Chris Andertons event it was his baby and he ran it in excelant fasion. As time went on i got to know the owners of the building and i have to say that the physical lay-out of the venue was as good as anywhere ive attended prior or since.Thankyou Chris for asking me(making me express) my self in the form of spinning a few, there was some great records played at Bretby, they also allowed me and my then wife to bring along our daughter for the alldayers so enableing us to attend.Great times and such happy times.Thank-you Chris.Gilly
  3. Unlike Wigan(too serious)Yate was a bizzar place to be in,in fact men dressing as women was seen a normal thing to do,nobody batterd an eyelid.I remember when it was Dave Wises night i would laugh from start to finnish and in the morning i left the car park with my jaws aching. One thing that really sticks in my mind was when the dj over the mic said "would the owner of an Austin 1100 please go out to the car park as its on fire"and went straight into the next record as if nothing had happened, brill
  4. On a simlar note what about fairground records, you could end up with Carlena Weaver Jealousy Audel
  5. You could well be right,as to my first post on this topic its what was being said at the time.It is a brill record but not as good(in my opinion)as the Magnetics, both sides in my top 20 of all time but never owned one,did have 2 of the Holding on 45
  6. No not bootlegs a product that someone has done with the owner of the master tapes so bootleg isnt the correct word issued years after they were first laid on a studio tape.
  7. When this record was adout as Keith said a fiver would buy it,i understood that Mr Anderson(i think)had some coppies knocked up from the master tape, but it was a long time ago.Gilly
  8. Hi Ed,yes ive had it for years now,if my memory serves me right?it came from the same master tape as Andy Fisher hearts beating stronger Fat Fish.Gilly and Nicola

  12. Some of the tunes here take me back, remember some others ie Out on the floor,Queen of fools,Stop her on sight.Dig your act,Real humdinger,Girls are out to get you,Unsatisfied/Magic potion,You get your kick/Breakout,Playing both ends,Prove youself a lady,Furys,6x6 and god knows what else. When youve had a tast of those things 70/71/72 no wonder i stuck around and still love the unknowns that keep turning up.
  13. This book has nothing to do with me directly but with me going out with Nicola its in your face anyway(the book that is). Some years ago Andy D started to pester me about writing my own pesonal stories and he continude to pester me for a long time, now with me being a bit of an arsole it took me a long time to actualy do it.Once i made a start that was it i was away and loving every minute of it,some of my own trips have and are being put in The Soul Up North mag and im glad to say the feed back has been great so when this book comes out god knows what the response will be,the skys the limit. What im asking is this,if you have a story to tell no matter how big or how small please send it in,if youve been on one of these record digging trips then your a part of it,so it now needs to be put into writing(documented). Many thanks for taking a look at this post.Gilly
  14. Just fantastic, here we see yet again as we have with our music kids on street corners who will never make a nickel or a dime out of this real tallent, what will happen is that some white guys will do a watered down version enter the world of show-biz become rich and famous be called Fred Astair and the like whilst those black guys melt away never to be seen again, its fuckin wrong

  18. So sad, another passing of a great artist, someone who is from the same stable and musical era that we here in the UK have loved and worshiped from our teenage beginings. Its such a shame that Clyde and indeed all those guys from that city just oozed with talent that the worlds stage never got to hear them,we have been so lucky and we thank them never to be forgoten. DID MY BABY CALL. RIP Clyde Wilson.we love you.Gilly and Nicola

  20. Was lucky to of been the one sort of looking after him.On his first visit he was stopping over at Chris Kings house in Carlton,Notts we then ran him up to Parr Hall,Warrington,he went on stage and did a bit of DJing. The second time he sang at that Birmingham Venue and apart from when he was doing the business he wouldnt let me leave his side.I used to see him on my trips in Detroit and he never forgot me,proberly had all his released stuff,a fantastic singer.Hope his health improves Dave

  22. Is it possible for anyone to have every B/E issue, the reason i ask is because i still have a large amount but i seem to remember on a few occasions the news agent telling me they were on strike this week, what part of the process he ment i dont know ie printers, journalists?
  23. Me likes it too Steve
  24. Would like to see that photo Steve,is that possible? The story of Pete jumping off the balcony has been told many times over the years and having met Pete a fair few years ago i never doubted it and like you say Steve its true and that should be good enough for everyone.
