  1. haha, no idea if 'known', imagined it was but couldn't see it mentioned from a Google search, and as there are stock copies at a certain big US dealer's site i didn't want to piss off the friend if it wasn't well known because i'm nice like that... great 45, both sides, love the fuzz bass
  2. that was quick! took me a couple of months to find a copy. can you have for look for everything else on my wants list then?
  3. In the Night - chick carbo - instant .
  4. I'm Gonna Put Some Hurt On You - raymond lewis - instant first of three New Orleans sides, could listen to this stuff all day...
  5. i Was Doin' Alright - the tikis - minaret
  6. cheers, were loads of stock copies of the Big Lucky around recently, but never heard anyone talk about it or play it though. it's Big Lucky Carter with Ann Peebles (i think) shouting in the background, a late 60s Willie Mitchell production. The Monitors is a 'Fools Paradise Favourite', i thought you might have heard Rex play it. i love the more rocking/rock'n'roll/doo wop stuff and not many people seem to - it's too R'n'R for soulies and many mods, but too soulful for the R'n'R/rockabilly types. Michael
  7. yeah, this is the first version, then Bo did it again after LR's version - on Ric ('Baby I'm Wise') which is probably a bit better known
  8. well, it might have confused MIke's simple request! executive summary for Mr Parry - if it's the slower version (in the clip above) you want then the Kentone JA, the BRA canadian, or Sebastian's euro pic sleeve one are the right ones to get. think i paid 60 or 70 for a clean BRA copy which seemed about right going by Popsike etc...
  9. (blimey, all these posts in an hour!) sorry to start the confusion, i meant Canadian not US... a lot of questions have been answered and loads more raised! my Coxsone suggestion was only after seeing that dancecrasher scan the other day.
  10. US lable is BRA, which i always thought was something to do with Byron Lee, but think it's actually a Coxsone Dodd label...? BRA issue has quite a good flipside, not sure if the Kentone one does or not also if you're searching try both 'Blues Busters' and 'Byron Lee', since i think Byron Lee's name comes first in the credits. edit - just noticed Sebastian's sleeve - now *that's* a good track to have on the other side!
  11. strange... 48 = I'VE GOT THE BLUES - bessie clark - [kenneth 125] 49 = I CAN NEVER FIND OUT - ramrocks introducing the zeniths - [press 2811] 50 = You Never Miss the Water - Billy 'The Kid' Emerson - Vee Jay
  12. recent? there was one on Ichiban 5-10 years ago, has there been another?
  13. prefer the flip, personally - a very nice funky folk type track ('In the Garden') no-one seems to know anything about the band, or even much about the label - a strange one i think, one of those bizarre UK labels with a right hodge podge of stuff
  14. you're right, you did. sorry, but you appeared confused in that post above
  15. i think you're missing the point, at least as how JT defined a hot box in the original funk board thread. it's simply a box which is *all* the records that you own, for deejaying purposes. what you put in it is up to you, but obviously since it's a one-in/one-out policy for a record to come in it's going to have to be better/rarer/newer/etc than at least something already in the box in order to push something out to be sold or traded. the fact that records don't have to be held on to, means they can be sold/traded in order to finance big purchases... i think the original thread subject referred to the first definition of yours above though. anyway, sorry to go on about that when the thread starter meant something else, just the hot box discussion is quite an interesting one, with the added bonus of some Trouble/Ellerbeck fighting which is always a joy to read...
  16. that's exactly right, although there's no reason that a 'hot box' deejay couldn't also have a collection totally separate from the stuff they deejay with - maybe JT could get into those far eastern Jazz LPs too...
  17. nice! had seen a 60s 45 by him and wondered if it was the same guy...
  18. Anglo American had copies for 10 quid a few months ago, although i forgot to get one...
  19. labels aren't always at the same angle when records get pressed. might be better to use any run out groove markings to describe something like that.
  20. there's also a nice reggae version by Lester Stirling ('Casa Blanca' on Kaya)
  21. i've got at least one on R&B with a white background, blue text, no logo. presumed they were demos. can't remember if there's any text to actually say that though...
