  3. JA issue is on C&N (one of Coxsone Dodd's labels)
  4. is this the same guy as Singing Sam and the Sparks on Honey? and what about Sam Chatmon and the Sparks on Boss?
  5. 'Jesse James Rides Again' and 'Whiskey and Soda' are both good. don't recall any of the others.
  6. i love this tune, so many great versions. earliest one i have is on Herbie Mann 'Live At the Village Gate', (with the composer, Ben Tucker on bass) - is there an earlier version, or is that technically the original? couldn't find out for certain, which seems odd for such a well-known tune.
  7. the Buffalo Bar. run by the guy who does a successful indie club called How Does It Feel - which is a very bizarre mix of Belle & Sebastian style obscure twee indie and the usual overplayed soul oldies (Do I Love You, Nowhere to Run, etc), but seems to work with the indie kids
  8. it's a bit more band/indie orientated these days. has a website with what's on, should be easy to search for
  9. Wheeliebag's on holiday at the moment. he might be back next week or the week after. it's on 6:30 - 10. the thing opposite is the Stag-O-Lee club at the New Evaristo, which is just a white doorway opposite, starts around 9:30 i think? has a late licence.
  10. bagsunlimited.com is the US company. have a great range of sleeves - different weights of paper, colours, etc. am surprised by Covers33 replacing the sleeves and having smaller alternatives - they claimed that the paper ones aren't meant to fit in the card sleeves when i asked them about the card sleeves being too small (this was a different problem a couple of years back - a batch of card sleeves that were smaller than normal so a lot of 45s wouldn't actually fit in them, let alone with inner sleeves)
  11. that was my next question, why it was only a solo version! i'd forgotten he was Jackie Lee, that makes much more sense now. probably skipped past those Jay Boy ones thinking it was just a reissue of the original... as for the LP, i've seen it on about 4 different UK labels, think mine is the B&C one, although i saw a B&C copy without the track. very confusing
  12. was the faster later ('66) Bob & Earl version on 45 and if so what label? i have it on that Bob & Earl LP that got issued by various labels in the UK, but it's not on most copies of that. also have it on a Goldmine CD somewhere... got the Traits the other day, a nice version. also Wayne Cochran on Mercury... (not sure i've ever heard the Rolling Stones version. heard them butcher High Heel Sneakers and that was bad enough)
  13. cheers! shame it's not the nice later logo though. any ideas on price of either issue?
  14. was just going through some old CDs and was reminded of this one - couldn't find much online about it, in particular what sort of price is it? also, a second issue - is that a boot?
  15. think there was a thread on here the other week in the Wants section with links to sound clips of both versions. have a search, should be near the top.
  16. yeah, still works really well with non-mod crowds, normally get people asking what it is. prefer the earlier version too, and that's the version on my copy of the Ace CD anyway! edit - just checked, and Sebastian's right, it is the later version on the CD, but the booklet has the number of the earlier one...!
  17. but a good way to draw attention to it though, just in case anyone after it hadn't seen the auction...! anyway, finished at $635 for anyone who didn't see it
  18. the records were made by the Seeburg jukebox company...
  19. i've got a copy i might part with, and think it's clean. PM me in a few days in case i've forgotten to dig it out! forgotten what the flip is though - what are the alternatives?
  20. some of the bigger 78 sellers on Ebay charge more for P&P, but they double box them - put the 78 in a mailer or pieces of corrugated card, and then that in a larger box, surrounded by polystyrene chips.
  21. i know, i just trying to say that it wasn't a problem even if it did!
  22. not a problem, just remove the skips using SoundForge or similar, and then Vinylcarver it...
  23. any grading should take that into account. obviously visual grading won't spot it, but honest sellers who only visually grade should then be happy to refund the purchase if the condition is worse than stated since it's them who are taking the risk of not grading properly in order to save time.
  24. identical tracks, sound fine on both. think there's a third, earlier issue still, have forgotten the name though...
  25. thanks for the info and scans. i asked about this a while back but no-one answered i was assuming the run-out markings would be the only way to tell, glad to hear there's an easier way, unless anyone know says that they have a stripey label demo with the 'correct' track...
