  1. what's a fair price for a clean copy of this at the moment? (Herald version)
  2. it was the blue 'Cream of Vintage Soul' for 7 quid or something from Mr CD in Berwick St that was one of the things that did it for me (i then went back to get the Northern Soul one but they'd all gone) 1.: This Can't Be True - Holman, Eddie 2.: Try My Method - Lee, Jackie 3.: Human - Ad Libs 4.: I Wanna Testify - Parliaments 5.: You're Still In My Heart - Ruffin, David 6.: Harlem Shuffle '66 - Bob & Earl 7.: Never Alone - Ward, Robert 8.: Whirlpool - Mancha, Steve 9.: When A Man Loves A Woman - Banks, Darrell 10.: I Can't Break The Habit - Garrett, Lee 11.: Still Hungry - San Remo Strings 12.: Nothing No Sweeter Than Love - San Remo Strings 13.: Secret Agents - Olympics 14.: Another Dirty Deal - Incredibles 15.: We're In The Middle - Reynolds, L.J & The Relations 16.: I Wonder - Womack, Bobby 17.: I'll Never Forget You - O'Jays 18.: What Should I Do - Manhattans 19.: Hole In The Wall - Barnes, J.J. 20.: You Better Believe In Me - Reeder, Eskew 21.: First Time - Wills, Viola 22.: Settle Down - Flirtations 23.: Love - Beverly, Frankie 24.: He's Alright With Me - Mirrettes 25.: Gotta Right To Cry - Leavill, Otis 26.: I Thought You Were Mine - Natural Four 27.: Hit And Run - Reeves, Martha 28.: My Kind Of Woman - Starr, Edwin 29.: Just Tryin' To Please You - Thomas, Jimmy 30.: Gotta Draw The Line - Fletcher, Darrow 31.: If It's All The Same To You - Ingram, Luther 32.: Hiding In Your Heart - Wilson, Timothy 33.: Malnutrition - Fountain, James 34.: Bingo - Dynamics 35.: Stay Mine For Heaven's Sake - Holman, Eddie 36.: Look Into The Eyes Of A Fool - Banks, Darrell some really storming stuff on there and lots of tracks with vibraphone which i'd always loved as an instrument... also this 'Cooler Shakers' CD is a good one, despite the name: https://www.discogs.com/release/857051
  3. it's a twist record by a white Rockabilly-ish artist, has been played on the mod and R&B scenes for a year or two now...
  4. the humour in R&B is one of the things i love the most. of course there's a time for heart-wrenching emotional tracks, but surely there's also a time to have a laugh? and Joe Tex did 'I Don't Play' about being serious and never joking... and of course, it's quite a funny track
  5. i love it! much prefer it to the Sam Williams. maybe it's the bongos...
  6. is it the same Trip label that put out all those Doo-Wop boot / reissue 45s?
  7. anyone know anything about this track, e.g. who Bill and Will were? not the easiest names to Google for... only recently found out that it had a UK release (Fontana) and appears on the 'English Freakbeat' volume of the Pebbles series... so were they British or is that a compilers' mistake?
  8. better version than the Big Daddy Simpson IMO. fittingly the a-side is called 'Marry Me'...
  9. Jackie Lee is Earl Nelson, no? and Bob was originally Bobby Byrd/Day (the Hollywood Flames Bobby Byrd, not the JB one) then Bobby Relf/Garrett by the time of Harlem Shuffle
  10. it's on a local label before Scepter, but i can't remember the name at the moment. also have got a good Wayne Cochran version (on Mercury? my memory is shocking!)
  11. you're probably better off selling modern stuff like this over at discogs.com - it's set-sale not ebay, and you can see what items have gone for in the past (the 'check market price history' link) had a few non-payers, but otherwise has been fine, very smooth, and site is easy to use (once you find the correct issue - all these major labels with slight name variations and long-winded catalogue numbers are a pain)
  12. they covered Carol Fran's 'I'm Gonna Try' as well, another surprising choice...
  13. Mike Vague has one listed on Ebay at the moment...
  14. that Bettye Swann's only a tenner. great track though
  15. no-one can argue with putting the following on a vinylcarver, surely? - acetates - cracked records - poor quality styrene
  16. yeah, only seems to get a few matches from Google for this 45, and one of them is me! if you like it, go for it... talking of Fury, am after a Du Mauriers 'All Night Long', should only be a cheapie i think, but not seen one for a year or two... now's when i notice my ebay search is misspelt - has happened before ("blimey, this record's a rare one, never been on ebay for at least 2 years... oh... d'oh!")
  17. possible to get a soundclip of the Claude Cloud please?
  18. no idea, just picked up a NM one for 7 quid at a fair the other week from someone having a clearout so that's probably not much help... nice track though, i love the way the reverb on the vocal comes and goes. does Mace post here? heard it via a swap CD of his, he may have a better idea
  19. don't think so, just has no 'book price'. a friend picked one up while in the US recently from a shop for 50c (without knowing the track, the jammy git!). had a few good Buy-It-Now bargains on Ebay, but none quite as good as that...
  20. what do you mean by 'the original'? Roberta Flack's version was the first to be recorded, and the live Eddie Harris and Les McCann version ( ) is also very famous. the Mr Floods Party is a pretty obscure version really, it's probably only the Northern scene that knows it... (the songs's written by Gene McDaniels, btw, although don't think he recorded it)
  21. nope, that's The Walk - Checker 885 being the original issue. The Wobble was a Mercury recording, and a proper rocker, both great records but better find out for certain which one the guy wants!
  22. another option, these hold about 100 45s each: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40101276
  23. think there's a pink label too... pretty obscure one to boot? label was run by the guitarist Lawrence Lucie and Susan King played bass a bit more info: https://deepsoulheaven.com/artists/S/susan_king.htm wouldn't mind a copy of Move On Down the Line / Morning if anyone has one
  24. I'm Twisted is the b-side, the Lyric issue (black label) was the second issue (i think) of the a-side ('Mathilda'), (but the first issue of I'm Twisted). the Mathilda/I'm Twisted coupling was also then released on Judd. the Paula copies are later still. there's a white labelled repress of the Lyric issue too.
